31 A Local Injury Prevention Model Based on Medical Institutions in China, Shanghai

Abstract:Background Injury is the leading cause of death and a major source of preventable disability in children. Despite incontrovertible evidence that injury risk is modifiable, injury prevention remains an historically neglected area of public health.Given the wide array of contributing causes, it became clear that improvements in injury could not be accomplished solely through the traditional medical model. This requires a multimodal and a a systematic injury prevention approach. Objective We describe the injury prevention model developed in Minhang District, Shanghai, China, which is the hospital-community-school-family-child model(HCSFC). Methods First, we analyzed the epidemiological characteristics and injury mechanism of injured children hospitalized in the Pediatric Hospital of Fudan University from 2017 to 2021. Then build a local hospital-community-school coalition. Construct Injury Prevention curriculum system, develop teaching aids, create Injury prevention nursery rhymes.Then we develop interventions and injury prevention activities including mobile and offline. Results This model provides a systematic framework through education and other interventions. It created a safer environments and activities for children. Thus, it indirectly reducies and sustains lower injury rates for the local children and adolescents. Conclusions HCSFC is an useful model for local children in Minhang Distrinct, Shanghai. In the future, it can be promoted widely.
