Abstract:In order to achieve high-power output of microwave systems, the microwave antenna as the output end often needs to meet the design requirements of high-power capacity and low sidelobes. The existing microwave antennas make it difficult to achieve high power-bearing capacity. In order to address this issue, the design of high-power microwave antennas mainly uses horn antennas for array design. For a horn array with electrically large antenna, the element will easily result in grating lobes in radiation pattern with higher sidelobe level. To achieve a low sidelobe level for linear or planar array antennas, the current main method relies on using feed with a certain amplitude distribution to achieve unequal amplitude distribution of each antenna element and keeping the distance between antenna elements limited to a wavelength. However, this unequal distribution often relies on the complexity of the feeding network structures, increasing the complexity of the system. This paper aims to reduce the sidelobe level of the antenna array as much as possible based on finite size. The main approach is to adjust the input power of the antenna to achieve unequal amplitude input for each antenna element, thereby reducing the sidelobe level of the antenna. Based on the above, a horn antenna with the center frequency of 3GHz is proposed and its size is limited to 180mm×135mm. To achieve high-power output, a 3×3 horn array antenna designed and the sidelobe level is reduced by adjusting the input power ratio.
