Abstract:In traditional anti-reconnaissance techniques, camouflage grass possesses hyperspectral characteristics similar to foliage. However, its color is unchangeable, restricting its adaptability to diverse background colors. Electrochromic devices can change color (yellow, green, etc.) under the influence of an electric field, yet their spectral match with vegetation is imperfect, hampering their anti-reconnaissance utility. Addressing the challenge, this study pioneers a biomimetic approach by synthesizing novel materials and devising new structures, culminating in groundbreaking outcomes. The innovative material, designed to mimic the color transition of vegetation, incorporates a new type of viologen as the chromic element, characterized by its suitable coloration and minimal near-infrared absorption. The novel structure, inspired by vegetation tissue architecture, involves a transparent regenerated cellulose membrane as the scaffold, coupled with a flexible microporous gold-plated membrane serving as both electrode and substrate, exhibiting flat and high reflectance properties. The novel result, a biomimetic electrochromic device crafted from the aforementioned components, switched between yellow and green at 0 or -1.0 V, and in both states, it boasts a spectral similarity to foliage exceeding 0.96. This marks the inaugural integration of electrochromic technology with the emulation of vegetation's hyperspectral characteristics, resulting in enhanced anti-reconnaissance capabilities and providing new paths for its development.
