Abstract:In the field of fault detection and diagnosis, datasets usually contain a large number of features, which poses a challenge for multi-classification tasks. Feature selection (FS) not only ensures that the model has sufficient generalization performance, but also does not suffer from feature redundancy or overfitting. However, data collected in different devices or environments, even with the same features, often cannot be used in a generalized model for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD). However, domain experts can directly prioritize features within the same dataset, and the classifier results will stabilize after feature reduction. We therefore incorporate expert opinions into the traditional FS task, combining subjective insights with objective factors to enhance the interpretability and credibility of the model. The approach involves an iterative process influenced by expert preferences, and this iterative approach refines the surrogate function based on both expert preferences and the most appropriate surrogate function, thus improving the logical consistency of the model with human expert decisions. We tested this approach on the RP-1043 public dataset using a variety of classifiers, showing promising progress. In addition, comparisons with mainstream FS algorithms on the PD-0731 dataset yielded good results, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach in reducing feature redundancy. In the discussion section, we found that the retained or removed features are supported by the corresponding literature. Accordingly, we can argue that introducing human expert experience into the FS model can significantly improve the accuracy of FDD.
