Abstract:Tea tree (Camellia sinensis) seeds contained a variety of bioactive ingredients, and were considered a valuable resource. Exploring the utilization value of tea seeds is of great benefit to increase the economic benefits of tea gardens. However, the overall metabolic characteristics of tea seeds at different maturity stages and related biosynthesis pathways remain unclear. In this study, the integrated untargeted metabolomics and transcriptomics approaches were used to explore the accumulation and molecular mechanisms of metabolites in tea seeds from August to October. Lipids especially fatty acyls and glycerophospholipids, and six types of amino acid derivatives were found to significantly accumulated, a number of which were firstly detected in tea seeds. Their metabolic pathways were mapped, and the key enzymes involved in the synthesis were identified. Moreover, 4 transcription factors including CsRAP2.10, CsWRKY2.1, CsbLHL18 and CsET2, were predicted to regulate lipid and/or amino acid synthesis. Taken together, our data revealed core metabolites and regulatory networks in tea seeds, and provided new insights for the comprehensive utilization of tea seed resources.
