Abstract:Growing ZnO nanoparticles through oxidation methods is beneficial for controlling the microstructure and intrinsic defects, obtaining excellent catalytic, sensing, and optoelectronic properties. However, there are currently few reports on the kinetic process of ZnO nanoparticles in oxidation growth. In this paper, the oxidation process of Zn nanoparticles under different oxygen densities was simulated using molecular dynamics. The results showed that ZnO grown using oxidation methods had a short-range ordered structure and a large number of internal oxygen vacancy defects. This may be due to the hindrance of oxygen atom diffusion caused by the formation of surface ZnO, which limits the number of oxygen atoms participating in the reaction. Additionally, increasing the oxygen density can effectively eliminate oxygen vacancy defects in ZnO. The results provide a good explanation for the low crystallinity and high oxygen vacancy content observed in the ZnO nanoparticles grown by oxidation.
