Abstract:Abstract Background The B-BOX (BBX) proteins are the class of zinc-finger transcription factors and can regulate plant growth, development, and endure stress response. In plants, the BBX gene family has been identified in Arabidopsis , rice, and tomato. However, no systematic analysis of BBX genes has been undertaken in grapevine. Results In this study, 24 grapevine BBX ( VvBBX ) genes were identified by comprehensive bioinformatics analysis. Subsequently, the chromosomal localizations, gene structure, conserved domains, phylogenetic relationship, gene duplication, and cis -acting elements were analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis divided VvBBX genes into five subgroups. Numerous cis -acting elements related to plant development, hormone and/or stress responses were identified in the promoter of the VvBBX genes. The tissue-specific expressional dynamics of VvBBX genes demonstrated that VvBBXs might play important role in plant growth and development. The transcript analysis from transcriptome data and qRT-PCR inferred that 11 VvBBX genes were down-regulated in different fruit developmental stages, while three VvBBX genes were up-regulated. It is also speculated that VvBBX genes might be involved in multiple hormone signaling (ABA, ethylene, GA3, and CPPU) as transcriptional regulators to modulate berry development and ripening. VvBBX22 seems to be responsive to multiple hormone signaling, including ABA, ethylene GA3, and CPPU. Some VvBBX genes were strongly induced by Cu, salt, waterlogging, and drought stress treatment. Furthermore, the expression of VvBBX22 proposed its involvement in multiple functions, including leaf senescence, abiotic stress responses, fruit development, and hormone response. Conclusions Our results will provide the reference for functional studies of BBX gene family, and highlight its functions in grapevine berry development and ripening. The results will help us to better understand the complexity of the BBX gene family in abiotic stress tolerance and provide valuable information for future functional characterization of specific genes in grapevine.

Abstract:Abstract Background B-box (BBX) zinc-finger transcription factors play important roles in plant growth, development, and stress response. Although these proteins have been studied in model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana or Oryza sativa , little is known about the evolutionary history or expression patterns of BBX proteins in grapevine ( Vitis vinifera L.). Results We identified a total of 25 VviBBX genes in the grapevine genome and named them according to the homology with Arabidopsis. These proteins were classified into five groups on the basis of their phylogenetic relationships, number of B-box domains, and presence or absence of a CCT domain or VP motif. BBX proteins within the same group showed similar exon-intron structures and were unevenly distributed in grapevine chromosomes. Synteny analyses suggested that only segmental duplication events contributed to the expansion of the VviBBX gene family in grapevine. The observed syntenic relationships between some BBX genes from grapevine and Arabidopsis suggest that they evolved from a common ancestor. Transcriptional analyses showed that the grapevine BBX genes were regulated distinctly in response to powdery mildew infection and various phytohormones. Moreover, the expression levels of a subset of BBX genes in ovules were much higher in seedless grapevine cultivars compared with seeded cultivars during ovule development, implying a potential role in seed abortion. Additionally, VviBBX8, VquBBX15a and VquBBX29b were all located in the nucleus and had transcriptional activity except for VquBBX29b. Conclusions The results of this study establish the genome-wide analysis of the grapevine BBX family and provide a framework for understanding the biological roles of BBX genes in grapevine.

Abstract:Genome-wide identification, analysis and functional characterization of an unreported VvBBX gene showed a response to light and positive correlation with anthocyanin content, but also inhibition of light-induced anthocyanin synthesis. B-box (BBX) proteins are a class of zinc (Zn) finger transcription factors or regulators characterized by the presence of one or two BBX domains and play important roles in plant growth and development. However, the BBX genes' potential functions are insufficiently characterized in grape, a globally popular berry with high economic value. Here, 25 BBX family genes including a novel member (assigned VvBBX44) were identified genome widely in grape. The expression level of these VvBBXs were analyzed in 'Cabernet Sauvignon' (V. vinifera) stem, flower, leaf, tendril, petiole, and developing berries. The expression of VvBBX44 increased in developing 'Cabernet Sauvignon' berries. Its expression was inhibited in 'Jingxiu' and 'Muscat Hamburg' berry skin without sunlight. Furthermore, overexpression of VvBBX44 decreased the expression of LONG HYPOCOTYL 5 (VvHY5) and UDP-glucose flavonoid 3-O-glucosyltransferase (VvUFGT), and reduced the anthocyanin content in grape calli. Our results suggest that VvBBX44 may play an important role in grape berry coloring by directly repressing VvHY5 expression. This study provides new insights into the potential role of VvBBXs in berry development and light response and contributes to the understanding on the regulation mechanism of VvBBX44 in anthocyanin biosynthesis.

Abstract:F-box proteins,widely existing in eukaryotes,were involved in cell cycle regulation,apoptosis and multiple hormone signal transduction.Recently,it was showed that F-box proteins mediated the responses to abiotic and biotic stresses,and they were crucial to maintain the normal growth and development for plant.Drought and other abiotic stresses seriously affected plant growth and development.It is urgent to solve the problem which enhances the drought resistance of plant at present.The Grapevine,one of important fruit trees,was widely cultivated worldwide.Drought stress severely affected the plant growth and dramatically reduced the fruit quality of grapevine.Therefore,it has a great meaning to isolate the drought-responsive genes and analyze its functions for stressresistant improvement in grapevine.Based on the transcriptome dataset,we found 11 F-box genes significantly upregulated under drought stress.Pfam software analysis showed these F-box genes encode amino acid sequences having a complete F-box domain.Among them,VvF-box5 on the 19th chromosome exhibited higher expression level compared with other genes.This gene consists of exons and 44 introns according to gene sequence analysis,and its open reading frame is 1 8244 bp.VvF-box5 protein contains 1 F-box domain in its N terminal and a fibrinogen-like domain (FBD) and two leucine-rich repeat(LRR) in its C terminal.Protein secondary structure prediction analysis showed that the VvF-box5 contains 15 α-helixs and 14 β-pleated sheets.The promoter element analysis showed that the promoter of VvF-box5 contains multiple stress-responsive elements,such as GA response element GARE-motif,MeJA response element CGTCA-motif,Drought stress related components ethylene-responsive element (ERE),heat stress-responsive element(HSE) and low temperature responsive element(LTR),light response cis elements ACE,Box 4 and Sp1 and other element related to cell cycle regulation and development.Real-time qRT-PCR showed that VvF-box5 responded to under the treatments of drought,salt,ABA and JA.Subcellular localization showed that VvF-box5 was mainly located in nucleus in onion epidermis cells.Overexression of VvF-box5 clearly improved the drought tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis.In addition,the fusion protein 6 × His-VvF-box5 was produced in prokaryotic expression system and purified by Ni-NTA Resin,laying foundation for studying VvF-box5 functions.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:The SBP-box gene family is specific to plants and encodes a class of zinc finger-containing transcription factors with a broad range of functions. Although SBP-box genes have been identified in numerous plants including green algae, moss, silver birch, snapdragon, Arabidopsis, rice and maize, there is little information concerning SBP-box genes, or the corresponding miR156/157, function in grapevine. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS:Eighteen SBP-box gene family members were identified in Vitis vinifera, twelve of which bore sequences that were complementary to miRNA156/157. Phylogenetic reconstruction demonstrated that plant SBP-domain proteins could be classified into seven subgroups, with the V. vinifera SBP-domain proteins being more closely related to SBP-domain proteins from dicotyledonous angiosperms than those from monocotyledonous angiosperms. In addition, synteny analysis between grape and Arabidopsis demonstrated that homologs of several grape SBP genes were found in corresponding syntenic blocks of Arabidopsis. Expression analysis of the grape SBP-box genes in various organs and at different stages of fruit development in V. quinquangularis 'Shang-24' revealed distinct spatiotemporal patterns. While the majority of the grape SBP-box genes lacking a miR156/157 target site were expressed ubiquitously and constitutively, most genes bearing a miR156/157 target site exhibited distinct expression patterns, possibly due to the inhibitory role of the microRNA. Furthermore, microarray data mining and quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis identified several grape SBP-box genes that are potentially involved in the defense against biotic and abiotic stresses. CONCLUSION:The results presented here provide a further understanding of SBP-box gene function in plants, and yields additional insights into the mechanism of stress management in grape, which may have important implications for the future success of this crop.

Abstract:Abstract Background Basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor gene family is one of the largest and most diverse families in plants. Current studies have shown that the bZIP proteins regulate numerous growth and developmental processes and biotic and abiotic stress responses. Nonetheless, knowledge concerning the specific expression patterns and evolutionary history of plant bZIP family members remains very limited. Results We identified 55 bZIP transcription factor-encoding genes in the grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ) genome, and divided them into 10 groups according to the phylogenetic relationship with those in Arabidopsis. The chromosome distribution and the collinearity analyses suggest that expansion of the grapevine bZIP (VvbZIP) transcription factor family was greatly contributed by the segment/chromosomal duplications, which may be associated with the grapevine genome fusion events. Nine intron/exon structural patterns within the bZIP domain and the additional conserved motifs were identified among all VvbZIP proteins, and showed a high group-specificity. The predicted specificities on DNA-binding domains indicated that some highly conserved amino acid residues exist across each major group in the tree of land plant life. The expression patterns of VvbZIP genes across the grapevine gene expression atlas, based on microarray technology, suggest that VvbZIP genes are involved in grapevine organ development, especially seed development. Expression analysis based on qRT-PCR indicated that VvbZIP genes are extensively involved in drought- and heat-responses, with possibly different mechanisms. Conclusions The genome-wide identification, chromosome organization, gene structures, evolutionary and expression analyses of grapevine bZIP genes provide an overall insight of this gene family and their potential involvement in growth, development and stress responses. This will facilitate further research on the bZIP gene family regarding their evolutionary history and biological functions.

Bioinformatic analysis of the SBP-box transcription factor and function of their regulation modes on berry ripening process by responding to hormones

Abstract:[Objectives]The aim of this paper is to analyze the basic information of SBP-box genes of grape(Vitis vinifera L.),and study their regulation function on berry ripening process. [Methods]SBP-box famiby genes in transcription factor database PlantTF (http://planttfdb.cbi.pku.edu.cn/index.php?sp=Vvi) were queried and obtained,and the amino acid sequences were analyzed with ClustalX 2,DNAMAN 6,Web Logo 3,MEGA 4.1 and Gene Structure Display Server bioinformatics softwares. The potential function of SBP-box transcription factor members in grape development and maturation process was predicted by analyzing their promoter motif elements using the Plantcare software. And the regulation function on berry ripening process was studied by RT-qPCR. [Results]Totally 19 SBP-box genes were found in transcription factor database. The results of domain analysis indicated that 48 amino acids of grape SBP-box domain were highly conserved(except for VvSBP-like1 and VvSBP-like2). The results of phylogenetic tree revealed that grape SBP-box genes were divided into 3 subclasses.Chromosome mapping analysis showed that the largest number of grape SBP-box genes were found on chromosome 1(four genes),followed by chromosome 5,15,4,7,8,10,11,12,14,17,18 and 19,and no SBP-box genes on chromosome 2,3,6,9,13 and 16. All SBP-box members contained elements related to grape berry development and ripening. RT-qPCR results indicated that nine members,the first and second subclass,probably promote berry ripe-ning process,and nearly seven members,the second subclass,promote the growth and development of grape berry but inhibit the berry ripening process. [Conclusions]VvSBP genes are highly and structurally conserved and most members participated in regulating berry development and ripening process.

Abstract:Basic helix–loop–helix (bHLH) proteins comprise one of the largest transcription factors (TFs) families in plants and members have been identified in model plant species, such as Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa. However, far less is known about the evolutionary history and expression patterns of bHLH proteins in woody species, such as grape (Vitis vinifera). In this study, we identified a total of 126 bHLH genes (VvbHLH) in grape genome, which were classified into 24 subfamilies based on the phylogenetic analysis included homologs from four plant species. The VvbHLH genes belonging to the same subfamilies have similar protein motifs and exon/intron structures and synteny analysis indicated that tandem and segmental duplication events have been major contributors to the expansion of the VvbHLH family. Synteny analysis between grape and A. thaliana suggested that some bHLH members shared a common ancestor. Expression analysis of 26 VvbHLH genes, representing members of the III and IV subfamilies, revealed profiles that were tissue-specific, hormone-responsive, and responsive to abiotic and biotic stresses. Taken together, the genome-wide identification and characterization of the grape bHLH TFs provide insights into their evolutionary history and represents a resource for further functional characterization in the context of crop improvement and stress tolerance.

Abstract:By the bioinformatics analysis,a total of 110 bHLH genes were identified in grape,and they were phylogeneticly clustered into 24 subfamilies,designated as VvbHLH001 ~ VvbHLH110. These 110 bHLH genes non-randomly distributed on 19 chromosomes,and 10 groups of genes of them were the tandem duplication. The analysis of gene chip expression showed that bHLH genes in grape had organ-specific expression. For example,subfamily Ib(2) expressed in root specifically,which was possibly involved in root activity; the genes VvbHLH003 and VvbHLH16 had special expression in flower pistil and inflorescence,and they might be related to floral organ development. This study could provide a foundation for the further studies on the gene functions and molecular evolutionary mechanism of bHLH family.

Abstract:Plant-specific YABBY (YAB) transcription factors play multiple roles in plant growth and development process. However, no comprehensive study has been performed in grapevines, especially to determine their roles in berry development and abiotic stress response. A total of seven VviYABs allocated to six chromosomal positions in grapevines were identified and classified into five subfamilies based on phylogenetic and structural analysis. Promoter element analysis and tissue-specific transcriptional response of VviYABs suggested that VviYABs might play vital roles in plant growth and development. VviYAB1 , 2 , 3 , and 5 showed significantly higher expression levels in vegetative/green organs than in mature/woody tissues, implying that VviYABs might be involved in the regulatory switch from immature to mature developmental phases. The expression of VviYAB1 , 2, 3, and VviFAS were gradually downregulated during berry developmental and ripening, which can be considered as putative molecular biomarkers between vegetative/green and mature/woody samples, and were used to identify key developmental and metabolic processes in grapevines. Furthermore, VviYAB1 expression was not markedly increased by gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) treatment alone, but displayed significant upregulation when GA 3 in combination with N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N′-phenylurea (CPPU) were applied, suggesting an involvement of VviYAB1 in fruit expansion by mediating cytokinin signaling pathway. Additionally, microarray and RNA-seq data suggested that VviYABs showed transcriptional regulation in response to various abiotic and biotic stresses, including salt, drought, Bois Noir , Erysiphe necator , and GLRaV-3 infection. Overall, our results provide a better understanding of the classification and functions of VviYABs during berry development and in response to abiotic and biotic stresses in grapevines.

Abstract:Basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors are involved in many abiotic stress responses as well as flavonol and anthocyanin biosynthesis. In grapes (Vitis vinifera L.), flavonols including anthocyanins and condensed tannins are most abundant in the skins of the berries. Flavonols are important phytochemicals for viticulture and enology, but grape bHLH genes have rarely been examined. We identified 94 grape bHLH genes in a genome-wide analysis and performed Nr and GO function analyses for these genes. Phylogenetic analyses placed the genes into 15 clades, with some remaining orphans. 41 duplicate gene pairs were found in the grape bHLH gene family, and all of these duplicate gene pairs underwent purifying selection. Nine triplicate gene groups were found in the grape bHLH gene family and all of these triplicate gene groups underwent purifying selection. Twenty-two grape bHLH genes could be induced by PEG treatment and 17 grape bHLH genes could be induced by cold stress treatment including a homologous form of MYC2, VvbHLH007. Based on the GO or Nr function annotations, we found three other genes that are potentially related to anthocyanin or flavonol biosynthesis: VvbHLH003, VvbHLH007, and VvbHLH010. We also performed a cis-acting regulatory element analysis on some genes involved in flavonoid or anthocyanin biosynthesis and our results showed that most of these gene promoters contained G-box or E-box elements that could be recognized by bHLH family members.

Abstract:The strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) is an important horticultural crop that is widely grown all over the world. Its sweetness, aroma, nutritional value and bright color make it popular. The woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca) is a model plant for studying non-climacteric fruits because its respiration rate does not change significantly during fruit ripening. The B-box (BBX) protein family is made up of zinc-finger transcription factors important in plant growth and development. In this study, we identified 22 FveBBX genes from the newly released woodland strawberry genome database by comprehensive bioinformatics analysis. Phylogenetic analysis divided these FveBBX genes into five subfamilies. A promoter cis-acting element analysis detected 29 elements related to plant development, light response, abiotic stress and hormone response in the promoter of FveBBX genes. According to transcriptome data, relatively few BBX genes had tissue-specific expression, with examples including FveBBX12, which was expressed only in pre-fertilization cortex and pitch, and FveBBX19, which was specifically expressed in mature anthers. During fruit ripening, the expressions of eight FveBBX genes decreased by more than two-fold, and three FveBBX gene expressions increased more than two-fold both in “Ruegen” and “Yellow Wonder”. After cold and heat stresses, around half of the FveBBX genes displayed altered expression, especially FveBBX16 which showed an 8.3-fold increase in expression after heat treatment, while FveBBX14 showed at least an 11-fold decrease in expression after cold treatment. According to the result of quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), FveBBX genes’ expression differed depending on the photoperiod. Notably, FveBBX7 gene expression was the opposite during the first 16 h of the long-day (LD) and short-day (SD) conditions. This study provides helpful information for further research on BBX gene activity of the woodland strawberry in plant growth and development and adaptation to temperature and photoperiod environmental conditions.

Abstract:Basic leucine zipper (bZIP) proteins, which function as transcription factors and play important regulatory roles in all eukaryotic organisms, have been identified and classified in plants based on the sequenced genomes of model species such as Arabidopsis thaliana and rice (Oryza sativa). However, far less is currently known about the evolutionary relationships and expression patterns of bZIP genes in nonmodel plants. In this study, we performed a genome-wide analysis and identified a total of 47 bZIP transcription factors from grape (Vitis vinifera L., cv PN40024). Phylogenetic analysis of grape bZIP transcription factors along with their Arabidopsis and rice counterparts indicated that they can be classified into 13 different groups. Furthermore, evolutionary analysis of the grape bZIP transcription factors demonstrated that segmental duplications have contributed substantially to the expansion of this family in grape. In addition, synteny analysis between grape and Arabidopsis suggested that some of the bZIP members were present in their most recent common ancestor and that the major expansion occurred before the divergence of the two species. Gene expression analysis of the grape bZIP transcription factor-encoding genes revealed tissue-specific, biotic and abiotic stress and hormone-responsive expression profiles. Taken together, the genome-wide identification and characterization of grape bZIP transcription factors provide insights into their evolutionary history and a resource for further functional characterization in the context of crop improvement and stress tolerance.

Abstract:Abstract As one of the largest transcription factor family, basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor family plays an important role in plant metabolism, physiology and growth. Berry color is one of the important factors that determine grape quality. However, the bHLH transcription factor family’s function in anthocyanin synthesis of grape berry has not been studied systematically. We identified 115 bHLH transcription factors in grape genome and phylogenetic analysis indicated that bHLH family could be classified into 25 subfamilies. First, we screened six candidate genes by bioinformatics analysis and expression analysis. We found one of the candidate genes VdbHLH037 belonged to III (f) subfamily and interacted with genes related to anthocyanin synthesis through phylogenetic analysis and interaction network prediction. Therefore, we speculated that VdbHLH037 participated in the anthocyanin synthesis process. To confirm this, we transiently expressed VdbHLH037 in grape and Arabidopsis transformation. Compared with the control, transgenic materials can accumulate more anthocyanins. These results provide a good base to study the function of the VdbHLH family in anthocyanin synthesis of grape berry.

Abstract:Background: The B-BOX (BBX) proteins have important functions in regulating plant growth and development. In plants, the BBX gene family has been identified in several plants, such as rice, Arabidopsis and tomato. However, there still lack a genome-wide survey of BBX genes in pear.Results: In the present study, a total of 25 BBX genes were identified in pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.). Subsequently, phylogenetic relationship, gene structure, gene duplication, transcriptome data and qRT-PCR were conducted on these BBX gene members. The transcript analysis revealed that twelve PbBBX genes (48%) were specifically expressed in pear pollen tubes. Furthermore, qRT-PCR analysis indicated that both PbBBX4 and PbBBX13 have potential role in pear fruit development, while PbBBX5 should be involved in the senescence of pear pollen tube.Conclusions: This study provided a genome-wide survey of BBX gene family in pear, and highlighted its roles in both pear fruits and pollen tubes. The results will be useful in improving our understanding of the complexity of BBX gene family and functional characteristics of its members in future study.
Comprehensive identification and expression analysis of B-Box genes in cotton

Abstract:Abstract Background B-BOX (BBX) proteins are zinc-finger transcription factors with one or two BBX domains and sometimes a CCT domain. These proteins play an essential role in regulating plant growth and development, as well as in resisting abiotic stress. So far, the BBX gene family has been widely studied in other crops. However, no one has systematically studied the BBX gene in cotton. Results In the present study, 17, 18, 37 and 33 BBX genes were detected in Gossypium arboreum , G. raimondii , G. hirsutum and G. barbadense , respectively, via genome-wide identification. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all BBX genes were divided into 5 main categories. The protein motifs and exon/intron structures showed that each group of BBX genes was highly conserved. Collinearity analysis revealed that the amplification of BBX gene family in Gossypium spp. was mainly through segmental replication. Nonsynonymous ( Ka )/ synonymous ( Ks ) substitution ratios indicated that the BBX gene family had undergone purification selection throughout the long-term natural selection process. Moreover, transcriptomic data showed that some GhBBX genes were highly expressed in floral organs. The qRT-PCR results showed that there were significant differences in GhBBX genes in leaves and shoot apexes between early-maturing materials and late-maturing materials at most periods. Yeast two-hybrid results showed that GhBBX5 / GhBBX23 and GhBBX8 / GhBBX26 might interact with GhFT . Transcriptome data analysis and qRT-PCR verification showed that different GhBBX genes had different biological functions in abiotic stress and phytohormone response. Conclusions Our comprehensive analysis of BBX in G. hirsutum provided a basis for further study on the molecular role of GhBBXs in regulating flowering and cotton resistance to abiotic stress.

Abstract:The transcription factors, B-box (BBX), belong to a subfamily of the zinc finger family of proteins and exhibit multiple biological functions in plant growth, development, and abiotic stress response pathways. In this study, a total of 23 CaBBX members were identified using the pepper reference genome database. According to the gene structure, conserved domains, and the phylogenetic tree, 23 CaBBX genes were divided into four groups, wherein the analysis of the promoter region indicated the presence of cis -acting elements related to plant development, hormones, and stress response. Interspecies collinearity analysis showed that the CaBBXs had three duplicated gene pairs, and the highest gene density was found on chromosomes 2 and 7. Transcriptome RNA-seq data and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis of pepper plants spanning the entire period showed that more than half of the CaBBX genes were widely expressed in diversity tissues of pepper. Co-expression network analysis indicated that the CaBBXs and the anthocyanin structural genes had a close co-expression relationship. Thus, it was reasonably speculated that the CaBBX genes may be involved in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis. Overall, this study involved the genome-wide characterization of the CaBBX family and may serve as a solid foundation for further investigations on CaBBX genes involved in the anthocyanin synthesis mechanisms and development in pepper.

Abstract:Members of the plant-specific B3-domain transcription factor family have important and varied functions, especially with respect to vegetative and reproductive growth. Although B3 genes have been studied in many other plants, there is limited information on the genomic organization and expression of B3 genes in grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.). In this study, we identified 50 B3 genes in the grapevine genome and analyzed these genes in terms of chromosomal location and syntenic relationships, intron–exon organization, and promoter cis-element content. We also analyzed the presumed proteins in terms of domain structure and phylogenetic relationships. Based on the results, we classified these genes into five subfamilies. The syntenic relationships suggest that approximately half of the genes resulted from genome duplication, contributing to the expansion of the B3 family in grapevine. The analysis of cis-element composition suggested that most of these genes may function in response to hormones, light, and stress. We also analyzed expression of members of the B3 family in various structures of grapevine plants, including the seed during seed development. Many B3 genes were expressed preferentially in one or more structures of the developed plant, suggesting specific roles in growth and development. Furthermore, several of the genes were expressed differentially in early developing seeds from representative seeded and seedless cultivars, suggesting a role in seed development or abortion. The results of this study provide a foundation for functional analysis of B3 genes and new resources for future molecular breeding of grapevine.
