Abstract:Topological equivalence of Morse-Smale flows without fixed points (NMS-flows) under assumptions of different generalities was studied in a number of papers. In some cases when the number of periodic orbits is small, it is possible to give exhaustive classification, namely to provide the list of all manifolds that admit flows of considered class, find complete invariant for topological equivalence and introduce each equivalence class with some representative flow. This work continues the series of such articles. We consider the class of NMS-flows with unique saddle orbit, under the assumption that it is twisted, on closed orientable 4-manifolds and prove that the only 4-manifold admitting the considered flows is the manifold $\mathbb S^3\times\mathbb S^1$. Also, it is established that such flows are split into exactly eight equivalence classes and construction of a representative for each equivalence class is provided.

Abstract:In the present paper the exhaustive topological classification of nonsingular Morse-Smale flows of $n$-manifolds with two limit cycles is presented. Hyperbolicity of periodic orbits implies that among them one is attracting and another is repelling. Due to Poincare-Hopf theorem Euler characteristic of closed manifold $M^n$ which admits the considered flows is equal to zero. Only torus and Klein bottle can be ambient manifolds for such flows in case of $n=2$. Authors established that there exist exactly two classes of topological equivalence of such flows of torus and three of the Klein bottle. There are no constraints for odd-dimensional manifolds which follow from the fact that Euler characteristic is zero. However, it is known that orientable $3$-manifold admits a flow of considered class if and only if it is a lens space. In this paper, it is proved that up to topological equivalence each of $\mathbb S^3$ and $\mathbb RP^3$ admit one such flow and other lens spaces two flows each. Also, it is shown that the only non-orientable $n$-manifold (for $n>2$), which admits considered flows is the twisted I-bundle over $(n-1)$-sphere. Moreover, there are exactly two classes of topological equivalence of such flows. Among orientable $n$-manifolds only the product of $(n-1)$-sphere and the circle can be ambient manifold of a considered flow and the flows are split into two classes of topological equivalence.

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of the solution to the connection Ricci flow on closed three-manifolds. The connection Ricci flow is a generalization of the Ricci flow to connection with torsion. We compare the evolving metrics under the connection Ricci flow and Ricci flow for some special cases. We obtain the blow-up rate of the Ricci tensor under the connection Ricci flow. Based on the result, we give the classification of the maximal solutions to the flow.

Abstract:Intrinsic topological superconductors have protected gapless Majorana modes, bound and/or propagating, at the natural boundaries of the sample, without requiring field, defect, or heterostructure. We establish the complete classification/construction of intrinsic topological superconductors jointly protected by point-group and time-reversal symmetries in three dimensions. This is obtained from enumerating distinct ways for stacking $n$th-order irreducible building blocks, minimal anomalous surface states of $n$th-order topological superconductors. Particularly, our method provides a unified description of possible surface anomalies away from high-symmetry points/lines in terms of the homotopy group of the surface mass field.
Non-singular flows with twisted saddle orbit on orientable 3-manifolds

Abstract:In this paper we consider non-singular Morse-Smale flows on closed orientable 3-manifolds, under the assumption that among the periodic orbits of the flow there is only one saddle orbit and it is twisted. It is found that any manifold admitting such flows is either a lens space, or a connected sum of a lens space with a projective space, or Seifert manifolds with base sphere and three special layers. A complete topological classification of the described flows is obtained and the number of their equivalence classes on each admissible manifold is calculated.

On the topology of 3-manifolds admitting Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms with four fixed points of pairwise different Morse indices

Abstract:In the present paper we consider class $G$ of orientation preserving Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms $f$, which defined on closed 3-manifold $M^3$, and whose non-wandering set consist of four fixed points with pairwise different Morse indices. It follows from S. Smale and K. Meyer results that all gradient-like flows with similar properties has Morse energy function with four critical points of pairwise different Morse indices. This implies, that supporting manifold $M^3$ for these flows admits a Heegaard decomposition of genus 1 and hence it is homeomorphic to a lens space $L_{p,q}$. Despite the simple structure of the non-wandering set in class $G$ there exist diffeomorphisms with wild embedded separatrices. According to V. Grines, F. Laudenbach, O. Pochinka results such diffeomorphisms do not possesses an energy function, and question about topology their supporting manifold is open. According to V. Grines, E. Zhuzhoma and V. Medvedev results $M^3$ is homeomorphic to a lens space $L_{p,q}$ in case of tame embedding of closures of one-dimensional separatrices of diffeomorphism $f\in G$. Moreover, the wandering set of $f$ contains at least $p$ non-compact heteroclinic curves. In the present paper similar result was received for arbitrary diffeomorphisms of class $G$. Also we construct diffeomorphisms from $G$ with wild embedding one-dimensional separatrices on every lens space $L_{p,q}$. Such examples were known previously only on the 3-sphere.

Abstract:We classify the indexed links corresponding to the union of the closed orbits of non-singular Morse-Smale flows on most graph manifolds. We find that each of this kind of indexed links can be obtained by applying a finite steps of operations on a special indexed link, which consists of all of the singular Seifert fibers and some regular Seifert fibers with some precisely described conditions.

Abstract:In the paper, non-singular flows with two limit cycles on the manifold S2×S1 are considered. For such flows, a classification is obtained up to topological conjugacy, and it is shown that they have a functional modulus of stability. Since the functional modulus of stability takes on its own value for each fixed argument, the presence of such modulus implies the presence of an infinite number of numerical moduli of stability. To obtain this result, linearization is carried out in the neighbourhoods of two limit cycles using the construction from the work by M. Irwin. A result is obtained on the presence of a two-dimensional foliation in a neighborhood of the limit cycle; this foliation is invariant up to topological conjugacy. Existence of the functional modulus of stability follows from the presence of such foliations. Namely, when considering the intersection of two foliations and, accordingly, two linearizations acting in the basins of two limit cycles, the desired functional modulus is a map describing the relative position of the foliation layer in the neighborhood of the first limit cycle relative to the layer of the second limit cycle. The results are used from the work by Pochinka O. V. and Shubin D. D. on exactly two classes of topological equivalence of flows in the class under consideration and on description of their differences. The work includes figure which shows 2 classes of topological conjugacy of flows from the classes studied. Also there is a figure which shows the process of gluing R3 into a manifold with a stable limit cycle. Moreover, the construction of a solid torus is shown. The figures show consistent and inconsistent orientation of limit cycles, as well as invariant foliations. Also there is a figure which shows the functional modulus.
On a classification of Morse functions on $3$-dimensional manifolds represented as connected sums of manifolds of Heegaard genus one

Abstract:Morse functions are important objects and tools in understanding topologies of manifolds since the 20th century. Their classification has been natural and difficult problems, and surprisingly, this is recently developing. Since the 2010's, results for cases of surfaces have been presented by Gelbukh, Marzantowicz and Michalak for example. We have also longed for higher dimensional cases. We present a classification of Morse functions on $3$-dimensional manifolds represented as connected sums of manifolds of Heegaard genus one. We concentrate on Morse functions such that preimages of single points containing no singular points are disjoint unions of spheres and tori. Existence of such functions implies that the $3$-dimensional closed and connected manifolds are of such manifolds. This has been shown by Saeki in 2006 and we further study structures of these functions.

Abstract:The topological equivalence classification for linear flows on $\mathbb{R}^n$ had been completely solved by Kuiper and independently Ladis in 1973. However, Ladis' proof was published in a Russian journal which isn't easily available, Kuiper's proof is more topological and a little bit subtle. Aiming at topological conjugacy classification, mainly based on the ideas of Kuiper, we introduce other techniques and try to present an elementary and self-contained proof just using linear algebra and elementary topology.

Abstract:We investigate the topological structure of flows on the Girl's surface which is one of two possible immersions of the projective plane in three-dimensional space with one triple point of self-intersection. First, we describe the cellular structure of the Boy's and Girl's surfaces and prove that there are unique images of the project plane in the form of a $2$-disk, in which the opposite points of the boundary are identified and this boundary belongs to the preimage of the $1$-skeleton of the surface. Second, we describe three structures of flows with one fixed point and no separatrices on the Girl's surface and prove that there are no other such flows. Third, we prove that Morse-Smale flows and they alone are structurally stable on the Boy's and Girl's surfaces. Fourth, we find all possible structures of optimal Morse-Smale flows on the Girl's surface. Fifth, we obtain a classification of Morse-Smale flows on the projective plane immersed on the Girl's surface. And finally, we describe the isotopic classes of these flows.

Abstract:By a gradient-like flow on a closed orientable surface $M$, we mean a closed 1-form $\beta$ defined on $M$ punctured at a finite set of points (sources and sinks of $\beta$) such that there exists a Morse function $f$ on $M$, called an energy function of $\beta$, whose critical points coincide with equilibria of $\beta$, and the pair $(f,\beta)$ has a canonical form near each critical point of $f$. Let $\mathcal{B}=\mathcal{B}(\beta_0)$ be the space of all gradient-like flows on $M$ having the same types of local singularities as a flow $\beta_0$, and $\mathcal{F}=\mathcal{F}(f_0)$ the space of all Morse functions on $M$ having the same types of local singularities as an energy function $f_0$ of $\beta_0$. We prove that the spaces $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, equipped with $C^\infty$ topologies, are homotopy equivalent to some manifold $\mathcal{M}_s$, moreover their decompositions into $\mathrm{Diff}^0(M)$-orbits are given by two transversal fibrations on $\mathcal{M}_s$. Similar results are proved for topological equivalence classes on $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, and for non-Morse singularities.

Abstract:We give a purely contact and symplectic geometric characterization of Anosov flows in dimension 3 and discuss a framework to use tools from contact and symplectic geometry and topology in the study of Anosov dynamics. We also discuss some uniqueness results regarding the underlying (bi)-contact structures for an Anosov flow and give a characterization of Anosovity based on Reeb flows.

Abstract:We study (topological) pseudo-Anosov flows from the perspective of the associated group actions on their orbit spaces and boundary at infinity. We extend the definition of Anosov-like action from [BFM22] from the transitive to the general non-transitive context and show that one can recover the basic sets of a flow, the Smale order on basic sets, and their essential features, from such general group actions. Using these tools, we prove that a pseudo-Anosov flow in a $3$ manifold is entirely determined by the associated action of the fundamental group on the boundary at infinity of its orbit space. We also give a proof that any topological pseudo-Anosov flow on an atoroidal 3-manifold is necessarily transitive, and prove that density of periodic orbits implies transitivity, in the topological rather than smooth case.

Abstract:It is known that the topological conjugacy class of a Morse-Smale flows with unique saddle is defined by the equivalence class of the Hopf knot in that is the projection of the one-dimensional saddle separatrix onto the basin of attraction of the nodal point, and the ambient manifold of a diffeomorphism in this class is the 3-sphere. In the present paper a similar result is obtained for gradient-like diffeomorphisms with exactly two saddle points and unique heteroclinic curve. Bibliography: 11 titles.

Abstract:In this paper, we first develope the concept of Lyapunov graph to weighted Lyapunov graph (abbreviated as WLG) for nonsingular Morse-Smale flows (abbreviated as NMS flows) on $S^3$. WLG is quite sensitive to NMS flows on $S^3$. For instance, WLG detect the indexed links of NMS flows. Then we use WLG and some other tools to describe nonsingular Morse-Smale flows without heteroclinic trajectories connecting saddle orbits (abbreviated as depth $0$ NMS flows). It mainly contains the following several directions: \begin{enumerate} \item we use WLG to list depth $0$ NMS flows on $S^3$; \item with the help of WLG, comparing with Wada's algorithm, we provide a direct description about the (indexed) link of depth $0$ NMS flows; \item to overcome the weakness that WLG can't decide topologically equivalent class, we give a simplified Umanskii Theorem to decide when two depth $0$ NMS flows on $S^3$ are topological equivalence; \item under these theories, we classify (up to topological equivalence) all depth 0 NMS flows on $S^3$ with periodic orbits number no more than 4. \end{enumerate}

Abstract:We prove that every three-dimensional vector field can be C-1 accumulated by Morse-Smale ones, or by ones with a transverse homoclinic intersection of some hyperbolic periodic orbit. In contrast to the case of diffeomorphisms [14], the main difficulty here is that we need to deal with singularities. We also make progress on another conjecture related to Palis in this paper.

Abstract:We describe all possible topological structures of Morse flows and typical gradient saddle-nod bifurcation of flows on the 2-dimensional torus with a hole in the case that the number of singular point of flows is at most six. To describe structures, we use separatrix diagrams of flows. The saddle-node bifurcation is specified by selecting a separatrix in the separatrix diagram of the flow befor the bifurcation.

Abstract:In this paper we present a proof of the Verjovsky conjecture: Every codimension-one Anosov flow on a manifold of dimension greater than three is topologically equivalent to the suspension of a hyperbolic toral automorphism. In fact, the conjecture is derived from possible more general result that says that for every codimension-one volume-preserving Anosov flow on a manifold of dimension greater than three, a suitable time change guarantees that the stable and unstable sub-bundles are then jointly integrable.
