Abstract:In this paper, inspired by hand clappers, we propose a novel three -layer triboelectric nanogenerator (TL-TENG) for collecting rotation energy. The TL-TENG can convert low -frequency rotational motion into high -frequency vibration by using the frequency up -conversion mechanism. Based on the theory that magnets can be equivalent to toroidal currents, a theoretical model considering the magnet plucking between the two permanent magnets is established to describe the motion of the TL-TENG. A numerical simulation is conducted to model the movement system and compared with theoretical results to validate the proposed theoretical model. The finite element method (FEM) is used to evaluate the electric potential variation between the two electrodes of the TLTENG. We investigate the factors that affect the output performance of the TL-TENG, such as external loads, the number of magnets, and external mechanical triggering, to evaluate its output performance. When equipped with four magnets at a speed of 36 rpm, the proposed TL-TENG can yield a peak power of 521 mu W with an average power of 136.03 mu W, exhibiting good performance in harvesting low -frequency rotational energy. Finally, we demonstrate the performance of the TL-TENG in achieving self -powered electronic devices and collecting wind energy through practical applications. This study demonstrates the potential of TENGs to capture low -frequency rotational energy through the frequency up -conversion mechanism.
