Abstract:The effect of selenium on alpha-Fe2O3 denitration catalyst was investigated via activity experimental density functional theory (DFT). Experiments showed that the NO conversion of fresh alpha-Fe2O3 was 50 %, while the NO conversion of selenium-poisoned alpha-Fe2O3 was 39.5 %. The Se2- competed with NH3 and NO for oxygen on the Fe2O3 surface, which inhibited NO conversion rate. The Se0 covered on the poisoned catalyst surface weakened the intensity of the weak acid sites, while the additional acid sites provided by SeO2 increased the catalyst surface acidity. DFT results indicated that the active adsorption sites of NH3, NO, and Se0 were the Fe top sites, which led to selenium occupying the nitrogen adsorption sites. Se0 adsorbed on the alpha-Fe2O3 surface enhanced NH3 adsorption. The rate-control step of the reduction reactions on the clean surface was HNNO transformation, with the energy barrier of 178.56 kJ/mol. The OH-Se (ads) structure appeared to be more stable and covered the surface, further reducing the catalytic sites on the SCR surface. Finally, Se (ads) seemed not significantly alter the energy barrier of NO oxidation reactions, but the NO2 (ads) generated on the Se/Fe2O3 surface was more unstable.
