Abstract:Based on the interactionist model of organizational creativity, the current study tests whether communication, as a contextual factor, plays a significant role in indicating employee creativity in virtual teams. Furthermore, the intent of our research was to scrutinize the mediating roles of two individual factors (specifically, creative self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation) play between communication and employee creativity. Data was collected from a sample of 267 employees who worked in virtual teams of enterprises in China and abroad. Structural equation model illustrated a multiple mediation model: the independently partial mediating path of creative self-efficacy and the chain mediating path of intrinsic motivation and creative self-efficacy. We deliberated on how these results might affect both the conceptual framework and the practical application within the context of virtual teams.
