Abstract:The gut microbiome is a complex and essential part of the human system. It plays a vital role in maintaining human health by regulating immune function, inter-organ communication, and metabolism [1]. The human microbiota is a diverse community of microorganisms residing in our intestines and comprises five significant phyla: Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobia . Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes dominate the gut microbiome, accounting for approximately 90% of the bacterial species [2]. Beyond its role in food digestion and absorption, the gastrointestinal tract serves as a reservoir of appetite-regulating signals [3]. Analysis of gut bacteria metabolites reveals a connection between the microbiome and memory. Despite the diverse gut microbiome, a significant connection between Lactobacillus and memory has been established [4]. Gut microbial metabolites encompass a diverse array of molecules, including gut-brain peptides [5], short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) [6], bile acids (BAs), bacterial proteins, and cellular components [7] produced by the resident gut microbiota. This intricate interplay between the gut microbiome and host physiology highlights the profound influence of the gut on energy balance and metabolic homeostasis [8]. This article explores the intriguing concept of microbial endocrinology, where gut bacteria don't just respond to our diet but potentially influence it. We have discussed how gut microbes might interact with hormones that regulate metabolism and appetite, creating a two-way street between our gut and brain. Our aim is to provide deeper insights about gut microbiome and hormones that regulate metabolism and appetite. By understanding this we may unravel new approaches to weight management, metabolic issues, and even mental health.
