Abstract:Rainwater infiltration can weaken the soil strength in slopes, potentially causing landslides. The tensile strength of the soil is essential in determining slope stability. However, the traditional method of extrapolating the linear envelope tends to overestimate the tensile strength of the soil. To address this issue, a calculation model has been proposed considering the tensile strength cut-off (TSC) under different rainfall conditions. This model combines the Green-Ampt model and the Fredlund criterion and has been validated through two examples. It has been compared with the Fredlund and Mohr-Coulomb (MC) strength criteria, confirming its applicability. The model has also been subjected to parametric analysis to explore the effects of relevant parameters on slope safety factors. Results indicate that the proposed model is versatile and can be applied to a wide range of scenarios. In specific cases, it can be simplified to the Fredlund and MC methods. The TSC has varying effects on the factor of safety (FOS) under different rainfall intensities, rainfall time, slope angles, and soil types. This study provides a new reference and method for calculating the stability of different soil slopes under various rainfall conditions, considering the TSC.
