The Design of Coral Protection Game Based on Sustainability Learning Model.

Abstract:Over the past few decades, coral coverage has declined significantly in many areas of southern China. Human activities have severely degraded coral reef environments, leading to the demise of coral and related organisms. To make young people aware of this crisis, we develop the game, Save Coral, using a game-based sustainability learning model. The game conveys the severity of the coral crisis and the difficulty of restoring coral reef ecosystems. We conduct a user study. The results of the study show that most participants play video games regularly and have taken action to protect the environment. However, they are largely unaware of the coral crisis. Save Coral is a user-friendly tool to increase their understanding and reflection on the coral crisis. We will continue to improve the game based on their feedback.
