Abstract:AbstrctTo assess the optimal dietary protein requirement of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) broodstock farming in the rice field, six isoenergetic and isolipid diets were formulated to contain graded levels of 28%, 31%, 34%, 37%, 40% and 43% crude protein (Diet 28-43 group). Each diet was assigned to triplicate of 20 experimental crayfish with the average initial body weight of (20.30±0.24) g for 56 days. Our results showed as follows, final body weight, weight gain rate and specific growth rate reached the highest in the Diet 34 group, which were significantly higher than Diet 28 group and Diet 37-43 group (P<0.05). Significant improvements in reproduction index, fecundity, egg diameter and egg production were observed by an increment of dietary protein levels from 28% to 37% (P<0.05), there was no significant increase in them when the further increase of protein level to 43% (P>0.05). Muscle protein content significantly increased as dietary protein level increasing and was highest in Diet 37 group (P<0.05). While no significant difference was found in the content of moisture, crude lipid and crude ash of muscle among all groups (P>0.05). Aspartate transaminase and lactate dehydrogenase activity reached the highest in Diet 34 group, which were significantly higher than Diet 28 group and Diet 37-43 group (P<0.05). Total bilirubin concentration showed a positive correlation with dietary protein level. Dietary protein level significantly affected trypsin activity, the activity of trypsin in Diet 43 group was significantly higher than Diet 28-37 group (P<0.05). Total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase and lysozyme activity reached the highest in Diet 31 group, which were significantly higher than Diet 43 group (P<0.05). The nitric oxide content in Diet 37 group was significantly higher than other groups (P<0.05). The malondialdehyde content significantly increased as dietary protein level increasing, which was highest in Diet 43 group (P<0.05). In conclusion, the optimal dietary protein level for the red swamp crayfish was 38.62% based on egg production under the rice field rearing conditions.
