Abstract:Liver cancer is the third leading cause of death in the world, and its mortality rate ranks second in China. Accurate liver segmentation is considered to be the key to help doctors diagnose and treat liver tumors. However, at present, the difference of patients, liver morphology and noise interference in the image are the three major challenges of liver image segmentation, which leads to unsatisfactory segmentation accuracy. To this end, considering the cost of medical data labeling and the large number of CT images that need to be processed, we propose a new semi-supervised architecture, called MT UNet ++. This architecture is based on the average teacher-assisted learning mechanism, and introduces two improved versions of the same UNet++, acting as teachers and students, to learn and self-correct a certain proportion of the labeled data in the input model. In addition, combined with data enhancement and confidence learning denoising, the liver tumor segmentation is realized. When the proportion of marked data is 30%, the method is tested on the LITS2017 dataset. The dice similarity coefficient is 95.80%, the intersection and combination ratio is 90.57%, and the hausdorff distance is 4.26 mm. The test results show that this method is effective for liver CT image segmentation. At the same time, the research of semi-supervised learning methods has increasingly become a trend.
