Abstract:In this study, the influence of high-density polyethylene active packaging (HDPAP) bottles containing Angelica dahurica essential oil (ADEO) on the oxidative stability and sensory attributes of linseed oil (LSO) during accelerated storage was studied. The migration test for ADEO showed that it could migrate from the package into linseed oil. During accelerated storage at 65 degrees C, the increase in acid value (AV) and peroxide value (PV) of the LSO samples was significantly restrained by HDPAP packaging containing ADEO at 7000 ppm (p < 0.05), which showed that the HDPAP bottle containing ADEO could delay the oxidation of LSO. In addition, the HDPAP bottle containing ADEO at 7000 ppm could also significantly restrain the decline of the sensory properties of LSO during the accelerated storage, including appearance, taste, flavor, and overall acceptance by 25.5, 25.5, 27.4, and 26.4% (p < 0.01 or p < 0.05), respectively. Thus, the results indicate that the use of HDPAP bottles containing 7000 ppm ADEO could be a good alternative to the direct addition of synthetic antioxidants to LSO.
