Abstract:Dielectric enhancement is actualized by virtue of light illumination in a 2D Dion–Jacobson‐type hybrid perovskite, for which the light‐induced dielectric constants are enhanced with a magnitude up to 250%. This work facilitates the exploration of new stimuli‐responsive materials to assemble high‐performance electronic devices. Stimuli‐responsive materials, showing bistable behaviors between two distinct states under external stimuli, can be potentially applied as basic components of modern electrical and electronic devices. 2D hybrid perovskites hold a promise to switch and tune dielectric bistability based on their solid‐state phase transitions. Here, strong dielectric enhancements are successfully actualized by virtue of light illumination in a Dion–Jacobson (DJ) type 2D hybrid perovskite, (HDA)(MA)2Pb3Br10 (1, where HDA is 1,6‐hexanediammonium and MA is methylammonium). Upon heating, 1 exhibits an ordered–disordered phase transition ≈ 324 K (Tc), accompanying a transition from its low to high dielectric state. Strikingly, its light‐induced dielectric constant changes are greatly enhanced with a magnitude up to 250% near the Tc, superior to most traditional inorganic phase transition materials. This process closely relates to the photoexcited dielectric effect that is caused by the interband photo‐excitation. Benefitting from the stability of DJ‐type perovskite structure, the switching cycles of dielectric enhancement display operational stability with superior anti‐fatigue characteristics. As per the knowledge, the findings of this strong dielectric enhancement are unprecedented in the family of 2D DJ‐type hybrid perovskites, which will facilitate broad interest in exploiting new stimuli‐responsive materials to assemble high‐performance smart electronic devices.

Abstract:Thermochromic perovskites, renowned for their tunable bandgap, high absorption coefficient, and reversible color changes, emerge as promising candidates for applications in smart windows. These advancements not only have the potential to enhance occupant comfort but also contribute significantly to reducing energy consumption in buildings. Here, we present a two‐dimensional lead‐free organic‐inorganic hybrid perovskite [Cyclobutylammonium]2CuCl4 which shows phase transitions from C2/c to P21/c to P21/c space group at 319.5 K and 348.8 K, respectively. Accompanying these transitions is a fascinating, reversible phase structure‐dependent thermochromic behavior, manifesting as a vibrant sequence from yellow to brown to slightly dark brown. Most importantly, the demonstrated ability to switch stably between high and low dielectric states indicates the enormous potential of this material as a dielectric switch. This non‐toxic thermoresponsive perovskite, characterized by its appropriate transition temperatures, reversible phase structure‐dependent thermochromism, and stable dielectric switching behavior, is expected to generate significant interest within the fields of thermoresponsive and dielectric switching materials. The integration of these features not only positions this perovskite as a noteworthy subject of scientific inquiry but also opens avenues for practical applications in diverse fields.

Abstract:Molecular dielectric switches constitute a type of intelligent materials that are highly coveted for their distinctive advantages of switchable dielectric responses, lightweight, and mechanical flexibility. Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid perovskites have demonstrated excellent promise for assembling dielectric switches, in which the dynamic motions of organic moieties afford driving force to trigger switchable dielectric phase transition. Here, we successfully assembled a new lead-free hybrid double perovskite, (CHA)4CuBiBr8 (1, CHA = cyclohexylammonium), adopting a typical 2D structural motif, which shows dielectric anisotropy and bistable behaviors during the reversible phase transition near T c = 378 K (the Curie temperature). That is, its dielectric constants could be switched and tuned between high-dielectric and low-dielectric states. Structure analyses reveal that the ordered-disordered transformation of the organic CHA+ moiety and distortion of inorganic framework account for its phase transition. This result will stimulate further exploration of molecular dielectric switches in this 2D environmentally friendly family.

Abstract:A novel 2D organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite BDADMAPb2Br7 (1) with dielectric switch and excellent weak light response properties has been grown successfully via solution cooling method. The crystals adopt a typical Dion–Jacobson (DJ) bilayered structure by incorporating the dimethylamine. Compound 1 shows a dielectric anomaly at 328 K and achieves a weak light detection ability of 340 nW cm−2 at 405 nm. 2D organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) are regarded as potential candidates for the advancement of multifunctional phase‐transition materials due to their ability to integrate flexible functionality and superior electronic features from both organic and inorganic components. However, the development of 2D OIHPs with dielectric switches and weak light detection capability that are crucial for high‐resolution sensing and imaging, remains challenge. Herein, a novel 2D OIHP BDADMAPb2Br7 (1, BDA = 1,4‐butanediamine and DMA = dimethylamine) is presented, featuring a 2D Dion–Jacobson (DJ) bilayered structure incorporated with secondary amine. Upon heating and cooling cycles, 1 demonstrates long‐term reversible dielectric switching properties at 328 K. Meanwhile, 1 also shows compelling semiconductor characteristics, including a low dark current of 2.87 × 10−11 A (10 V), a large switching ratio of 4 × 103, and a high detectivity of 1.3 × 1012 Jones. In addition, the photodetector based on 1 exhibits an excellent weak light detection ability of 340 nW cm−2 at 405 nm. Such a 2D OIHP demonstrates a novel platform for creating multifunctional materials and significantly promotes the development of integrated devices.

Abstract:Molecular phase transition compounds have become a hot research area in recent years because of their potential as functional materials, such as ferroelectrics, ferroelastics, dielectric switches, etc. However, materials combining switchable dielectric properties and ferroelasticity are still rare. Here, we reported an organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite, [CPtmp][Cd(SCN)3] (1) ([CPtmp]+ is a cyclopentyltrimethylphosphonium cation), with a potential ferroelastic property. This material undergoes three structural phase transitions at 247/226, 335/312, and 349/341 K (upon heating/cooling). The successive phase transitions are mainly caused by the stepwise ordering of [CPtmp]+ cations and the concomitant deformation of [Cd(SCN)3]− anionic chains revealed by structural analyses, which triggers the double-step dielectric switching in 1 as well. Abstract:An one-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite material [3.3.0-dabco]PbBr3 (1) was synthesized by reaction of 1,5-diazabicyclo[3.3.0]octane (3.3.0-dabco) with PbBr2 in concentrated HBr aqueous solution. The differential scanning calorimetry, dielectric measurements, and variable-temperature structural analyses revealed compound 1 exhibits two successive structural phase transitions from P212121 to Pbcm at 387 K (T1) and then to P6/mmc at 436 K (T2), accompanied by two pairs of dielectric anomalies with a clear one at T1 and an unobvious one at T2. In addition, compound 1 shows robust second harmonic generation (SHG) effect between SHG-OFF and SHG-ON states during its centrosymmetric to noncentrosymmetric symmetry breaking phase transition at T1.

Abstract:A novel lead‐free hybrid perovskite ferroelectric (BDA)SbBr5 (1) is constructed for environmentally friendly photo‐pyroelectric (PPE) detection. Compound 1 exhibits ferroelectric phase transition at 380 K, realizing broadband UV–near infrared PPE detection and switchable pyroelectric current. Its stable performance of PPE detection over 3 months is attributed to hydrogen bonding interactions from diamine. As a subcategory of pyroelectric materials, hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics possess substantial pyroelectric properties and exceptional light absorption characteristics, demonstrating significant potential in the photo‐pyroelectric (PPE) detection field. Despite the significant advantages of hybrid perovskite ferroelectric materials for PPE detection, both the lead issue and the weak stability from van der Waals interactions in monoamines have hindered their further application. Here, 1D lead‐free ferroelectric (BDA)SbBr5 (1, where BDA is 1,4‐butanediammonium) is fabricated to achieve PPE detection. Compound 1 exhibits significant symmetry breaking attributed to the order–disorder transition of organic cations and octahedral distortions. Specifically, compound 1 enables broad‐spectrum PPE detection from UV to near‐infrared (377–980 nm) and further realizes switchable pyroelectric current after polarization. More importantly, the stability of the pyroelectric current is preserved without degradation over three months, attributed to the hydrogen bonding interactions of butanediamide. Further theoretical calculations of compound 1 reveal a more negative energy of formation than its monoamine homologs (BA)2SbBr5 (where BA is n‐butylammonium), which is evidence of its stability. These findings highlight 1 as a promising candidate for high‐stability and environmentally friendly PPE wide‐spectrum detection, representing a noteworthy advancement in the ferroelectric field.

Abstract:Hybrid lead (Pb) halide perovskites are widely regarded as promising materials for next generation of photo-voltaic (PV) and optoelectronic (OE) devices owing to their high power conversion efficiency (PCE). To obtain green lead-free and excellent materials, the structural, electronic and optical properties of tin (Sn) and germanium (Ge) based single-layer Dion-Jacobson (DJ) phase perovskites (PDA)MX4 (M = Sn/Ge; X = I/Br/Cl) systems are investigated by carrying out first-principles theory. The calculation results indicate that all perovskites (PDA)MX4 have good thermal stability (at 300K), and the structural stability increases in the order of I-Br-Cl. These com-pounds are direct bandgap semiconductors, ranging from 1.26 to 1.81 eV ((PDA)SnX4) and 1.44-2.26 eV ((PDA) GeX4). Density of states (DOS) reveals that the band edge state mainly comes from the M-X bond and the organic molecule PDA is not directly involved in the contribution. Compared to Ge-based perovskites, the bandgap range of Sn-based perovskites is not only closer to the optimal bandgap requirement for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), but the optical properties reveal a slightly higher absorption coefficient for Sn-based perovskites in the visible light range. This suggests that (PDA)SnX4 perovskites are more favorable for PSCs applications. The theoretical study can provide strong support for the development of high-level perovskites materials in PV and OE devices.

Abstract:A bistable optical-electrical duple switch belongs to a class of highly satisfying intelligent materials that can transform optical and electrical responses simultaneously in one device. A perovskite-type high-temperature phase transition compound with one-dimensional chain-like crystal structure, ([(CH3)(3)PCH2OCH3][PbBr3], 1), displays remarkable bistable photoluminescent-dielectric duple switching behaviors. The noteworthy order-disorder transition of the phosphonium cation and the motions of anions contribute to the phase transition, leading to the space group P2(1)/c at a low temperature phase to C2/c at a high temperature phase. 1 exhibits a prominent step-like dielectric anomaly at 401.0 K and demonstrates novel optical properties with a band gap of 3.54 eV. The photoluminescence intensity suddenly declines from 398 K to 408 K, which may be attributed to the occurrence of phase transition. The electron cloud distributions of the frontier orbital in compound 1 have been calculated using a DFT program.

Abstract:Hybrid organic‐inorganic halide perovskites are actively pursued for optoelectronic technologies, but the poor stability is the Achilles' heel of these materials that hinders their applications. Very recently, it has been shown that lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dots (QDs) can form epitaxial interfaces with the perovskite matrix and enhance the overall stability. In this work, it is demonstrated that embedding QDs can significantly modify the transport property of pristine perovskite single crystals, endowing them with new functionalities besides being structurally robust and free from grain boundaries. Resistive switching memory devices are constructed using solution‐processed CH3NH3PbBr3 (MAPbBr3) perovskite single crystals and the QD‐embedded counterparts. It is found that QDs could significantly enhance the charge transport and reduce the current–voltage hysteresis. The pristine singe crystal device exhibits negative differential resistance, while the QD‐embedded crystals are featured with filament‐type switching behavior and much improved device stability. This study underscores the potential of QD‐embedded hybrid perovskites as a new media for advanced electronic devices.

Abstract:As a feasible lead-free scheme, organic-inorganic hybrid double perovskite shows many excellent properties, including ferroelectricity, ferroelasticity, self-powered circularly polarized light detection and so on. In this work, the solid-to-solid structural phase transition of a two-dimensional hybrid double perovskite (CHA) 4 CuBiI 8 is successfully actived by dehydration of (CHA) 4 CuBiI 8 ·H 2 O, which can be proved by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the temperature-dependent dielectric measurement. Applying the variable-temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction, the cause of phase transition in (CHA) 4 CuBiI 8 is the overall coordination of distortion and movement of inorganic skeleton and thermal deformation of cationic structure. In addition, the substance after dehydration shows good stability in the multiple reversible switching of the dielectric tests. This interesting dehydration-activated experiment of the material injects power to further expand properties and potential application of hybrid double perovskite.

Bication-Mediated Quasi-2D Halide Perovskites for High-Performance Flexible Photodetectors: From Ruddlesden–Popper Type to Dion–Jacobson Type

Abstract:Quasi-2D halide perovskites, especially the Ruddlesden–Popper perovskites (RPPs), have attracted great attention because of their promising properties for optoelectronics; however, there are still serious drawbacks, such as inefficient charge transport, poor stability, and unsatisfactory mechanical flexibility, restricting further utilization in advanced technologies. Herein, high-quality quasi-2D halide perovskite thin films are successfully synthesized with the introduction of the unique bication ethylenediammonium (EDA) via a one-step spin-coating method. This bication EDA, with short alkyl chain length, can not only substitute the typically bulky and weakly van der Waals-interacted organic bilayer spacer cations forming the novel Dion–Jacobson phase to enhance the mechanical flexibility of the quasi-2D perovskite (e.g., EDA(MA)n−1PbnI3n+1; MA = CH3NH3+) but also serve as a normal cation to achieve the more intact films (e.g., (iBA)2(MA)3–2x(EDA)xPb4I13). When fabricated into photodetectors, these optimized EDA-based perovskites deliver an excellent responsivity of 125 mA/W and a fast response time down to 380 μs under 532 nm irradiation. More importantly, the device with the Dion–Jacobson phase perovskite can be bent down to a radius of 2 mm and processed with 10,000 cycles of the bending test without any noticeable performance degradation because of its superior structure to RPPs. Besides, these films do not exhibit any material deterioration after ambient storage for 30 days. All these performance parameters are already comparable or even better than those of the state-of-the-art RPPs recently reported. Abstract:Perovskite hybrids of lead organometal halides, (e. g., CH3NH3PbX3, X=Cl, Br, I) have gained wide attention since their spectacular progress on optoelectronic technologies in recent years. However, it still remains the fundamental problem, namely, the existence of the toxic, bioaccumulative, polluting element Pb and the instability of humidity. In particular, the use of toxic Pb severely limits the broad applications and commercialization of lead-containing optoelectronic devices, and finding an alternative that preserves the unique optoelectronic properties of the lead halide perovskite is highly urgent. Bi(3+)exhibits isoelectronic behavior similar to that of Pb(2+)in terms of ion radius and electronegativity, which is expected as an environmentally friendly alternative for lead. However, 1D Bi-based hybrid organic-inorganic light-absorbing materials with pyridinium are not numerous. Although great progress has been made, the research on photoresponse behavior are still rarely reported. Here, we present a lead-free organic-inorganic hybrid absorber with photoconductive response, (C5H7N2)BiI4(1, C(5)H(7)N(2)(+)is 2-aminopyridinium), which displays a narrow optical bandgap of similar to 1.8 eV. Equally importantly,1not only features highly applicable properties, but is also able to absorb across most of the UV/Vis region of the solar spectrum. Furthermore, high-quality single crystal with sizes up to 7x6x4 mm(3)was successfully grown. In addition,1exhibited extremely low dark current (2x10(-11) A) at the bias of 10 V, which indicates that the indicator of1is an order of magnitude lower than other reported perovskite photodetectors. Moreover, photocurrent on/off switches is faster (similar to 670 ms), indicating that1can be a promising photosensitive switch. These intriguing properties, namely the lead-free composition, a small band gap, and the fast photoconductive response, suggest promising applications in the field of optoelectronics.

Abstract:Metal halide perovskite materials present a wide array of opportunities for the development of high-performance optoelectronic devices, owing to their outstanding photoelectric properties. Compared with the lead-containing perovskites, stable and non-toxic organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites exhibit enhanced potential for future commercial applications. In this work, we developed a self-powered UV photodetector based on 2D Dion−Jacobson (DJ) phase lead-free double perovskite HAAg 0.5 Bi 0.5 Br 4 (HA 2+ = histammonium) perovskite with an on-off ratio up to 2.66 × 10 6 , excellent specific detectivity of 6 × 10 12 Jones, and response speed of 1.32 ms/118.4 μs. The light intensity related pyro-phototronic effect on 2D perovskite is thoroughly investigated. Temperature and light detection are realized through multi-energy coupling, which greatly improves the detection performance. Coupled pyro-phototronic current is calculated nearly 75 folds higher than that from the photoelectronic merely. As-prepared photodetector film shows excellent stability in normal environment, maintaining a value of 90 % to the initial performance after 500 cycles and 90 days. This work provides a new self-powered, stable and non-toxic candidate for the future UV photodetectors.

Abstract:Owing to the diversity of structure and potential applications in the field of electrics, sensors, and light-emitting diodes, lead halide perovskites have attracted great attention in recent years. Especially those lead halide perovskites with non-centrosymmetric crystal structures usually exhibit nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics, which may endow them photoelectricity switching functionality. In this work, a lead-based hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) material, trimethyliodomethylammonium lead trichloride (TMIM•PbCl3), is obtained on the basis of tetramethylammonium tetramethylammonium lead chloride through halogen substitution on the cation part. It shows dual-phase-transition behavior around 345 and 358 K, which is significantly improved. TMIM•PbCl3 crystallizes in the chiral space group, P212121, and shows a well-defined second harmonic generation (SHG) response, and good switching endurance, which makes it an excellent candidate for SHG switching material. This work highlights the importance of halogen substitution for crystal engineering and may pave way for the further exploration of the optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:A two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (OIHP) material is considered as a promising candidate for a long-term stable photodetector owing to its outstanding phase and environmental stability. Herein, we demonstrate a perovskite photodiode based on the DJ phase 2D perovskite (PDA)(MA)(n-1)PbnI3n+1 (where PDA is 1,3-propylenediamine, MA is methylamine, nominal n = 4). The best-performance device exhibits a high detectivity of 4.57 X 10(11) Jones, a responsivity of 0.25 A.W-1 at 480 nm, a low dark current density of 9.60 X 10(-4) mA.cm(-2), and a remarkable on/off ratio of 3.10 X 10(5). The unencapsulated device can maintain 95% of the initial photocurrent density after 90 days under an ambient atmosphere with relative humidity (RH) of 65%, demonstrating its improved stability than the 3D counterpart. The excellent stability of the photodiode based on 2D perovskite promises its bright commercial application future.
Two-Dimensional Organic–Inorganic Hybrid Materials with Dielectric Switching and Photoluminescence Properties

Abstract:Layered 2D organic–inorganic halide perovskites have attracted comprehensive scientific attention due to their excellent dielectric, ferroelectric, and photophysical properties. However, most of the reported crystal compounds only possess a single performance. Here, we report two new layered 2D organic–inorganic halide perovskites: [BA-PbBr4] (Prv-1) and [MACH-PbI4] (Prv-2) (BA = 1-butylamine, MACH = cyclohexanemethylamine). Both compounds (with crystal structures) show switchable phase transitions at 390 and 350 K, respectively. Shockingly, [MACH-PbI4] reveals a high photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 16.3% with the replacement of the halogen and organic cation (Br → I, BA → MACH). In addition, the experimental data and calculated results suggest that both compounds could be used as band gap semiconductors. Abstract:Highlights • A bulk ACI perovskite single crystal is successfully obtained by cooling crystallization method. • A single-crystal photodetector is built with excellent photodetection performance. • A high-resolution imaging sensor is built, confirming the high stability and photosensitivity. Organic-inorganic halide perovskite, as a low-cost, solution-processable material with remarkable optoelectronic properties, is ideal candidate to fabricate high-performance photodetector and is expected to significantly reduce device costs. Compared to the common Dion-Jacobson and Ruddlesden-Popper two-dimensional (2D) layered hybrid perovskite compounds, the perovskites with alternating cations in the interlayer (ACI) phase show higher crystal symmetry and narrower optical bandgaps, which exhibits great potential for excellent photodetection performance. Herein, we report a high-performance photodetector based on 2D bilayered hybrid lead halide perovskite single crystal with ACI phase (GAMA 2 Pb 2 I 7 ; GA = C(NH 2 ) 3 and MA = CH 3 NH 3 ). The single-crystal photodetector exhibits high photoresponsivity of 1.56, 2.54, and 2.60 A/W for incident light wavelengths of 405, 532, and 635 nm under 9.82 nW, respectively, together with the correspondingly high detectivity values of 1.86 × 10 12 , 3.04 × 10 12 , and 3.11 × 10 12 Jones under the same operating conditions. Meanwhile, a high-resolution imaging sensor is built based on the GAMA 2 Pb 2 I 7 single-crystal photodetector, confirming the high stability and photosensitivity of the imaging system. These results show that the 2D hybrid lead halide perovskites with alternating interlayer cations are promising for high-performance visible light photodetectors and imaging systems. Abstract:Highly robust, swiftly reversible thermochromic nature of a two-dimensional (2D) perovskite of (PDMA)(CH3NH3)(n-1)PbnI3n+1, nominally prepared as n = 2 is found, where PDMA = C6H4(CH2NH3)(2). A wide band gap variation from 700 to 430 nm is observed between room temperature and >60 degrees C under ambient conditions, resulting from moisture absorption and desorption. X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy are performed to analyze the hydrated and dehydrated states. Furthermore, the (PDMA)(CH3NH3)(n-1)PbnI3n+1 film is demonstrated as an active material for smart windows and thermochromic solar cells, which could lower the inside air temperature in an enclosed space and supply a power conversion efficiency of more than 0.5% at a high ambient temperature, respectively. Overall, we may pave a pathway for exploring the novel phenomena and applications of Dion-Jacobson 2D perovskites.

Abstract:Inorganic perovskites with special semiconducting properties and structures have attracted great attention and are regarded as next generation candidates for optoelectronic devices. Herein, using a physical vapor deposition process with a controlled excess of PbBr2, dual-phase all-inorganic perovskite composite CsPbBr3-CsPb2Br5 thin films are prepared as light-harvesting layers and incorporated in a photodetector (PD). The PD has a high responsivity and detectivity of 0.375 A W-1 and 10(11) Jones, respectively, and a fast response time (from 10% to 90% of the maximum photocurrent) of approximate to 280 mu s/640 mu s. The device also shows an excellent stability in air for more than 65 d without encapsulation. Tetragonal CsPb2Br5 provides satisfactory passivation to reduce the recombination of the charge carriers, and with its lower free energy, it enhances the stability of the inorganic perovskite devices. Remarkably, the same inorganic perovskite photodetector is also highly flexible and exhibits an exceptional bending performance (>1000 cycles). These results highlight the great potential of dual-phase inorganic perovskite films in the development of optoelectronic devices, especially for flexible device applications.
