Abstract:The impact of Zr doping on Ni-Mn-In alloy characteristics is thoroughly examined in this study. With doping Zr content no more than 0.5at.%, widely dispersed second phases enhance mechanical properties, allowing a greater volume fraction of martensitic transformation during loading, improving its elasto-caloric effect. Zr doping increases electron concentration, raising the phase transition temperature and reducing the gap between the phase transition temperature and the Curie temperature. This reduction decreases the negative contribution of magnetic entropy and increases the isothermal entropy change, resulting in greater heat absorption and release during phase transitions, also improving the magneto-caloric effect. For Ni50Mn34.5In15Zr0.5 alloy, elasto-caloric effect testing showed a substantial adiabatic temperature change of −8.6K. Magneto-caloric effect testing recorded an isothermal entropy change of 37.78 Jkg−1K−1 under a 3T magnetic field and a commendable refrigeration capacity of 266 Jkg−1, collectively underscoring its notable advantages in solid-state refrigeration.
