Abstract:1,1-Bis(4-alkylthiophenyl)-1-alkenes were conveniently and efficiently prepared from alkyl phenyl sulfides and acyl chlorides via a tandem Friedel-Crafts acylation and alkylation in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride. Abstract:In the presence of catalytic amount of bismuth(III) chloride, the reactions of acyl chlorides or vinyl chlorides with arenes afforded 1,1-diarylatkenes in 25-82% isolated yield. In the case of the reaction of acyl chlorides with arenes, the procedure includes an initial Friedel-Crafts acylation, subsequent formation of vinyl chlorides and final Friedel-Crafts-type vinylation of another arene molecule with vinyl chloride. This paper reports the first Lewis acid-catalyzed cleavage of the C-Cl bond of vinyl chloride and its application in the synthesis of multiply subtituted alkenes.

Abstract:Trifluoroethylation made easy: The ease of execution of the reaction (see scheme), which runs under mild conditions and without the need for additional base or ligands, allows for the rapid parallel synthesis of a broad variety of trifluoroethylated alkynes. Both experimental and theoretical analyses indicate that the trifluoromethylcarbene could undergo concerted insertion into the CspH bond of the alkyne. Abstract:The use of alkylthio electrophiles in synthesis has remained elusive because of the lack of a suitable reagent that is practical and of excellent enantioselectivity and appropriate reactivity. In this work we introduce a novel alkylthio reagent based on the 2-mercapto-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole (MMTD) fragment for direct alkylsulfenylation of ketones and aldehydes. It can be readily prepared by the oxidative coupling between thiadiazole and other alkylthio reagents and be combined with chiral primary aminocatalysis. This protocol provides facile access to diverse α-alkylthio quaternary carbon centers with good stereoselectivities.

Abstract:Alkynyl sulfides are prevalent in bioactive molecules and functional materials. A variety of methods for the construction of alkynyl sulfides have been developed, however, the general and practical synthetic strategy to afford alkynyl sulfides from readily available starting materials remains non-trivial. Herein, we report that the widely accessible 1,2,3-thiadiazoles as robust alkynylthiolate anions, which couple with C(sp 1-3 )-electrophiles to construct corresponding alkynyl sulfides in the presence of metal catalyst or under metal free conditions (79 examples with average 68% yield). The alkynylthiolation reaction with aryl iodides and bromoalkynes is experimentally easy to conduct under mild conditions in the presence of palladium or copper catalysts; the alkynylthiolation with 1 o -, 2 o -alkyl electrophiles and difluorocarbene precursor are performed under metal free conditions. Gram-scale reactions and diverse synthetic transformations convincingly demonstrate the synthetic potential of this method.

Abstract:Tandem Friedel–Crafts acylation and alkylation of arenes with 2-alkenoyl chlorides were investigated under the catalysis of Lewis acids. The cascade reaction affords dihydrochalcones in good yields accompanying 1-indanone derivatives in some cases, in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride. The scope, limitation, and mechanism of the tandem reaction were also explored. The intermolecular Friedel–Crafts alkylation for the formation of dihydrochalcones is more favorable than the intramolecular one for the generation of 1-indanones in the tandem reaction due to a stable six-membered ring transition state. The sequent process was further studied by the DFT computations at the M06-2X/6-31G(d) level, which are in great agreement with the experimental observation and support the proposed mechanism. The current method provides a convenient and economic method to synthesis of dihydrochalcones.

Abstract:A selenium-catalyzed trifluoromethylthiolation/[2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of tertiary allylic and propargylic alcohols which could provide straightforward and facile access to trifluoromethyl sulfoxides was developed. Various allylic and allenic trifluoromethyl sulfoxides were obtained with moderate to excellent yields. Meanwhile, a Lewis acid mediated trifluoromethylthiolation/1,2-rearrangement to synthesize β-SCF<sub>3</sub> carbonyl compounds was also accomplished. These two tandem reactions feature with mild reaction conditions and metal-free. Abstract:A facile construction of α-allylbutenolides from readily available allyl ynoates has been developed via tandem gold-catalyzed alkyne isomerization to allene and cycloisomerization, the Claisen rearrangement and a double bond migration. The gold catalysis is enabled by a bifunctional phosphine ligand featuring a critical remote tertiary amino group, and the reaction tolerates a range of substituents and exhibits yields up to 96%.
