Abstract:Two new nickel(II) molybdenum(VI) selenium(IV) and tellurium(IV) oxides generally formulated as Ni3(Mo2O8)(XO3) (X ) Se, Te) have been synthesized by solid-state reactions of NiO, MoO3, and SeO2 (or TeO2). Both compounds feature 3D network structures built of [Mo4O16] tetranuclear cluster units and 2D nickel(II) selenite or tellurite layers. The nickel(II) selenite layer in Ni3(Mo2O8)(SeO3) is formed by [Ni6O22] hexanuclear clusters interconnected by selenite groups whereas the thick nickel(II) tellurite layer in Ni3(Mo2O8)(TeO3) is constructed by corrugated nickel(II) oxide chains bridged by the tellurite groups. The results of magnetic property measurements indicate that there are considerable ferromagnetic interactions between nickel(II) centers in both compounds. Their optical properties and band structures have been also studied.

The structure of Ni7(TeO3)6Cl2 features a novel 3D network based on Ni4ClO3 cubane-like clusters with Te atoms located at the cavities of the network. Ni4ClO3 clusters are interconnected into a hexagonal layer through additional O‚‚‚O edges. The neighboring two layers are further interconnected, via sharing of common Ni(II) atoms, into a novel 3D network. The 3D open framework of Ni5(SeO3)4Br2 is built from 2D nickel(II) oxybromide layers bridged by Se and additional Ni atoms. The structure of Ni11(TeO3)10Cl2 features a condensed 3D network based on NiO5Cl, NiO6, and NiO5 polyhedra interconnected via corner and edge sharing, as well as O−Te−O bridges. The results of magnetic property measurements indicate that all three compounds display antiferromagnetic interactions between nickel(II) centers.

Abstract:Five new transition metal molybdenum(VI) selenites or tellurites, namely, TM(MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O) (TM = Mn, Co), Fe(2)(Mo(2)O(7))(SeO(3))(2)(H(2)O), Cu(2)(MoO(4))(SeO(3)), and Ni(3)(MoO(4))(TeO(3))(2), have been prepared and structurally characterized. They belong to five different types of structures. Mn(MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O) and Ni(3)(MoO(4))(TeO(3))(2) are non-centrosymmetric and crystallize in the orthorhombic space groups Pmc2(1) and P2(1)2(1)2(1), respectively, whereas Co(MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O), Fe(2)(Mo(2)O(7))(SeO(3))(2)(H(2)O), and Cu(2)(MoO(4))(SeO(3)) are centrosymmetric and crystallize in P1, C2/c, P2(1)/c, respectively. The Mo(6+) cations in Mn(MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O), Co(MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O), and Fe(2)(Mo(2)O(7))(SeO(3))(2)(H(2)O) are in severely distorted octahedral geometry whereas those in Cu(2)(MoO(4))(SeO(3)) and Ni(3)(MoO(4))(TeO(3))(2) are in a slightly distorted tetrahedral geometry. Second-Harmonic Generation (SHG) measurements revealed that (MoO(3))(SeO(3))(H(2)O) displays a moderate SHG signal of about 3 x KH(2)PO(4) (KDP) whereas the SHG response of Ni(3)(MoO(4))(TeO(3))(2) is much weaker than that of KDP.

Abstract:The new nickel selenite chloride, Ni-5(SeO3)(4)Cl-2, was obtained by high-temperature solid state reaction of NiCl2, Ni2O3 and SeO2 in a 1:2:4molar ratio at 700 degrees C in an evacuated quartz tube. Its structure was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Ni-5(Seo(3))(4)Cl-2 crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P-1 (No. 2) with cell parameters of a = 8.076(2), b = 9.288(2), c = 9.376(2) angstrom, alpha = 10 1.97(3), beta = 105.60(3), gamma = 91.83(3)degrees and Z = 2. All nickel(II) ions in Ni-5(SeO3)(4)Cl-2, are octahedrally coordinated by selenite oxygens or/and chloride anions (([Ni(l)O5Cl], [Ni(2)O4Cl2], [Ni(3)O5Cl] [Ni(4)O-6] and [Ni(5)O4Cl]). The 3 structure of the title compound features a condensed three-dimensional (3D) network built by Ni(II) ions interconnected by SeO23- anions as well as Cl- anions.
