Abstract:A new synthetic approach to tri-substituted trisalkoxy-hexavanadate clusters containing different organic groups was developed in this work. Four mixed-valence or fully reduced POV hybrids were synthesized and structurally characterized, including an amino-containing derivative of hexavanadate, Na-2[(V3V3O10)-V-IV-O-V{NH2C(CH2O)(3)}(3)] (1). Furthermore, a novel mixed-valence POV hybrid was prepared via the amidation of 1, indicating that 1 can be used as an excellent building block for the design and synthesis of mixed-valence POV functional materials.

Abstract:By controlling the terminal organic ligands, various fascinating supramolecular assemblies originating from hydrogen bonding interactions in different dimensions in a series of hexavanadate hybrids were synthesized via step-by-step organic modification. These hybrids were characterized, and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Moreover, the introduction of a rigid bridging ligand has a positive influence on the assembly of supramolecular architectures, providing a new vision for the design and synthesis of advanced inorganic-organic materials.

Abstract:A reaction strategy for the post-functionalization of hexavanadate derivatives is presented herein. In this study, five polyoxovanadate-based organic-inorganic hybrids TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2) 3CCOO(CH2)(15)CH3)(2) (2), TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCOO(CH2)(8)CH=CH2)(2)] (3), TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCOOCH2CF3}(2)] (4), TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCOO(CH2CH2O)(3)CH3}(2)] (5), and TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCOO(CH2)(12)OH}2]. 2CH(3)CH(2)OH (6) were successfully synthesized via esterification of carboxylic acid groups-containing TBA(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)-CCOOH}(2)] (1) with five alcohols possessing different functional groups. These hybrids were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, ESI-MS, H-1 and C-13-NMR spectroscopies, and elemental analysis. Moreover, the formation of large vesicles was observed in a mixed solution of compound 2 due to its surfactant-like structure.

Abstract:Two new compounds were obtained by modifying hexavanadate cores with pentaerythritol in aqueous solution, however, re-crystallized in water and acetonitrile, respectively. The molecular structures for (Bu4N)(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCH2OH}(2)center dot H2O] (1) and (Bu4N)(2)[V6O13{(OCH2)(3)CCH2OH)(2)center dot 4CH(3)CN] (2) (Bu, n-butyl) have been characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 and 2 crystallize in monoclinic and triclinic space groups, respectively. Compound 1 shows supramolecular chirality in two-dimensional molecular assemblies while 2 does not have such chiral structure. The role of solvent molecules to the formation of supramolecular chirality in self-assembly architectures of polyoxometalates-based hybrid materials is discussed based on these two crystal structures. Abstract:Multiferrocenyl and multiadamantyl cuboctahedron nanospheres were synthesized via rapid self-assembly reactions of twelve 90 degrees Pd-II-containing compounds and twenty-four 120 degrees organic bidentate N-ligands in acetone solution. The selected self-assembly reaction and corresponding solvent were demonstrated to be effective and simple in the preparation of self-assembled nanospheres. DOSY NMR spectroscopy, AFM images and theoretical calculations confirmed the formation of cuboctahedron complexes with the size of 4-5 nm. Multifunctional molecular self-assembly processes offer considerable synthetic advantages including significantly fewer steps, fast and facile formation of final desirable products, and will lead to a new multifunctionality platform for cuboctahedron complexes.

Abstract:Polyoxometalates (POMs)-porphyrin hybrids can serve as multifunctional materials with fascinating photocatalytic and photovoltaic properties. However, most previous POM-porphyrin hybrids are synthesized relied on electrostatic interactions to form ion pairs, which is not stable enough and subject to leaching and poor electronic communication. To our knowledge, no specific crystalline structure of direct covalently tris-functionalized POM-porphyrin hybrids has been identified. Herein, we discover an unprecedented polyoxometalates (POMs)-based photoresponsive cluster, {V6O13[ZnC61H58N5O4]2}2- (denoted as V6-Zn-2Por), which can be synthesized by covalently grafting two tris-functionalized Zn-porphyrin ligands onto Lindqvist-type hexavanadate cluster using decavanadates (TBA)3[H3V10O28] (denoted as V10, TBA = tetrabutylammonium cation) as precursor. Additionally, using tetraphenyl phosphonium as counterion, for the first time, a high-quality single crystal structure of the hybrid hexavanadate-porphyrin molecule is uncovered. Interestingly, the fluorescence emission spectra show that the fluorescence intensity of the organic-inorganic hybrid is partly quenched compared to pristine porphyrins, indicating possible energy/electron transfer between POMs cluster and porphyrin under light irradiation. Their UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra show an extended absorption in the visible-light range. Finally, the as-prepared photoresponsive hexavanadate-porphyrin molecule is proved to exhibit effective photocatalytic activity toward removal of rhodamine B (an organic dye) under visible-light illumination.

The multi-component cascade reaction achieves dual α,β-C(sp2)-H functionalization of o-hydroxyphenyl enaminones to construct C2,C3-disubstituted chromenes for the first time, along with intramolecular cascade cyclization between two functional groups to construct four new bonds and two rings in one pot. Moreover, the products have polarity sensitivity and feature aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics after simple modifications, which is promising for bioimaging and theranostic applications.

Abstract:A new approach to the study of reactions between vanadate and monosaccharide derivatives by introducing them into an acetonitrile medium has been elaborated. Based on this approach, a crystalline product of the reaction of [NBu(4)(n)][H2VO4] with methyl O-4,6-benzylidene-alpha-D-mannopyranoside (H(2)L(1)) has been obtained, [NBu(4)(n)](2)(VO(2)L(1))(2)], and its structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The anion comprises a dinuclear V-2(mu-O)(2) centre and two deprotonated H(2)L(1) molecules. Each vanadium atom is bound to the deprotonated vicinal cis-diol of one mannopyranoside ring resulting in a five-membered ring cyclic complex. The geometry of the two five-co-ordinated vanadium(v) atoms is intermediate between a square pyramid and a trigonal bipyramid. A complex with a similar formula [NBu(4)(n)](2)[(VO(2)L(3))(2)] {H(2)L(3) = 5'-O-[(p-methoxyphenyl)diphenylmethyl]uridine} , has also been prepared and spectroscopically characterized. Multinuclear NMR studies and conductivity measurements in acetonitrile provided strong evidence that the dimeric structure of both complexes is maintained in solution. Vanadium-51 NMR titration studies in acetonitrile solutions showed that the chelation ability follows the order L(3) > L(1) > L(2) (H(2)L(2) = methyl O-4,6-benzylidene-alpha-D-glucopyranoside). Molecular modelling suggested that the O-... O- distance and dihedral angle between the adjacent hydroxyl groups in a sugar ring are the determining factors for vanadium chelation.

Abstract:Two new hybrids of local anesthetic analogs and polyoxometalates {(Bu4N)(2)[MO6O18NC6H4COOCH3] (1) and (Bu4N)(2)-[Mo6O18NC6H4COOC2H5] (2)} have been prepared in high purity and moderate yields using the easy reaction route of [alpha-Mo8O26](4-) with corresponding aromatic amine hydrochlorides in the presence of a N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC), and have been characterized by H-1 NMR, IR, UV/Vis, ESI-MS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. Compound I crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pi with dimer structure, while Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with dimer and chain structure. These two hybrids have the typical Mo equivalent to N triple bond that links a phenylimido group in local anesthetic analogs to the Mo atom of a hexamolybdate cluster. Because the formed Mo equivalent to N bond is not stable in basic solution, this property is useful and could be developed as a novel controlled-release technology for drug delivery. Abstract:The heteropoly compound [((VO4)-O-V)(MO12O36)-O-VI((VO)-O-IV)(6)][(OH)(9)].11H(2)O (1), synthesized by hydrothermal method under weak basic conditions, represents the first mixed Mo/V six-capped Keggin structural derivative with a spherical skeleton, and the first transition metal polyoxocation. The successful synthesis of 1 demonstrates that basic hydrothermal synthesis might be a power synthetic route to the isolation of more new polycationic metal-oxo clusters.

Abstract:Three novel rigid-rod conjugated organic-POM hybrids (1, 2 and 3) containing pendant amino terminus, with different rod lengths and different substituents on the rod, have been respectively synthesized via one-pot reaction of hexamolybdate and the corresponding aromatic diamine (for 1 and 2) and reaction of octamolybdate and the corresponding aromatic diamine dihydrochloride (for 3) with N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a dehydrating agent. These complexes have been characterized by UV/Vis, IR, 1H NMR, ESI and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The influences of the rod length and substituents on the properties of these compounds have been systematically investigated, which provide necessary information for further preparations of complicated hybrid materials via reactions with pendant amino groups.
