Abstract:The Eopolydiexodina - Rugososchwagerina assemblage,which is considered as the representative association of the Middle Permian fusulinacean fauna on the Gondwana-derived blocks and the margin of Gondwana continents,has been previously reported from the Baoshan Block,West Yunnan(Ueno,2000). Based on new materials collected recently from the Shazipo Formation in the Xiaoxinzhai of Gengma County,West Yunnan,we conducted a detailed morphological study on the specimens which might be assigned to “Rugososchwagerina” to confirm the identification and classification of Fusulinid fossils from this important section on the Baoshan Block. However,results of this study have revealed remarkable morphological differences between the specimens of “Rugososchwagerina” and the type specimen of Rugososchwagerina Miklukho-Maklay,1956. Especially,the specimens of “Rugososchwagerina” from the Xiaoxinzhai section are characterized by a distinctive,elongate-fusiform juvenile test with flat septa and can be easily distinguished from the type specimen of Rugososchwagerina Miklukho-Maklay,1956 which has a juvenile test with strongly folded septa. Because the important morphological difference in juvenile stage of ontogeny implies different evolutionary ancestors,the specimens from the Xiaoxinzhai section can not be assigned to the genus of Rugososchwagerina Miklukho-Maklay,1956. Although the juvenile test of the specimens from the Xiaoxinzhai section is similar to those of Oriento-(schwagerina) and Chusenella,two contemporary genera also widely occurred in the northern margin of Gondwana,the apparent morphological differences between their adult tests such as in the septa folding and test shape also exclude the possibility of assigning the specimens of “Rugososchwagerina” from the Xiaoxinzhai section to either the Orientoschwagerina or the Chusenella. In this paper,we propose to establish a new genus,Xiaoxinzhaiella gen. nov.,to embody the specimens from the Xiaoxinzhai section. The new genus belongs to the Subfamily Pseudoschwagerininae Chang 1963. Except the type species Xiaoxinzhaiella densa gen. et sp. nov.,the new genus also includes Xiao-(xinzhaiella) xanzensis (Wang,Sheng et Zhang,1981),which was reported from Shenzha area of Tibet and identified as Rugososchwagerina.
