Abstract:Information retrieve is one of the most important operations in computer information systems. This paper presents a kind of fuzzy information retrieve method based on soft computing (SCFIR for short). SCFIR adopts fuzzy clustering analysis and artificial neural networks to organize databases in systems so as to increase the efficiency of fuzzy retrieve. At the same time, SCFTR realizes the understanding of query sentences in natural language by means of heuristic induct leading mechanism, interactional grammar analysis and semantic analysis. Finally, SCFTR applies several machine learning mechanisms (such as connective learning, evolutive learning, rough sets and so on) in the maintenance of system knowledge base, and thus the effectiveness and feasibility of retrieve systems are improved availably.

Abstract:We describe in this book, hybrid intelligent systems based mainly on type-2 fuzzy logic for intelligent control. Hybrid intelligent systems combine several intelligent computing paradigms, including fuzzy logic, and bio-inspired optimization algorithms, which can be used to produce powerful automatic control systems. The book is organized in three main parts, which contain a group of chapters around a similar subject. The first part consists of chapters with the main theme of theory and design algorithms, which are basically chapters that propose new models and concepts, which can be the basis for achieving intelligent control with interval type-2 fuzzy logic. The second part of the book is comprised of chapters with the main theme of evolutionary optimization of type-2 fuzzy systems in intelligent control with the aim of designing optimal type-2 fuzzy controllers for complex control problems in diverse areas of application, including mobile robotics, aircraft dynamics systems and hardware implementations. The third part of the book is formed with chapters dealing with the theme of bio-inspired optimization of type-2 fuzzy systems in intelligent control, which includes the application of particle swarm intelligence and ant colony optimization algorithms for obtaining optimal type-2 fuzzy controllers.

Abstract:<p>Although civil engineering problems are often characterized by significant levels of complexity, they are generally approached and solved by combining several practitioners' skills, such as intuition, past experience, logical reasoning, mathematical elaborations, and physical sense. This is also the case of problems in structural and earthquake engineering whose solution is generally based on the so-called "engineer's judgment". However, heuristic theories and algorithms within the framework of "soft computing" can provide a more rational and systematic way to approach and solve problems in these areas. As a matter of fact, the aforementioned algorithms have been recently utilized in several branches of engineering and applied sciences. This paper proposes a state-of-the-art review of the main applications of soft computing techniques to relevant structural and earthquake engineering problems. Specifically, the applications of fuzzy computing, evolutionary computing, swarm intelligence, and neural networks, as well as their hybrid combinations, are analyzed with the aim to examine their capability and limitations in modeling, simulation, and optimization problems.</p>

Abstract:When considering the concept of distributed intelligent control, three types of components can be defined: (i) fuzzy sensors which provide a representation of measurements as fuzzy subsets, (ii) fuzzy actuators which can operate in the real world based on the fuzzy subsets they receive, and, (iii) the fuzzy components of the inference. As a result, these elements generate new fuzzy subsets from the fuzzy elements that were previously used. The purpose of this article is to define the elements of an interoperable technology Fuzzy Applied Cell Control-soft computing language for the development of fuzzy components with distributed intelligence implemented on the DSP target. The cells in the network are configured using the operations of symbolic fusion, symbolic inference and fuzzy–real symbolic transformation, which are based on the concepts of fuzzy meaning and fuzzy description. The two applications presented in the article, Agent-based modeling and fuzzy logic for simulating pedestrian crowds in panic decision-making situations and Fuzzy controller for mobile robot, are both timely. The increasing occurrence of panic moments during mass events prompted the investigation of the impact of panic on crowd dynamics and the simulation of pedestrian flows in panic situations. Based on the research presented in the article, we propose a Fuzzy controller-based system for determining pedestrian flows and calculating the shortest evacuation distance in panic situations. Fuzzy logic, one of the representation techniques in artificial intelligence, is a well-known method in soft computing that allows the treatment of strong constraints caused by the inaccuracy of the data obtained from the robot’s sensors. Based on this motivation, the second application proposed in the article creates an intelligent control technique based on Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), a feature of intelligent control systems that can be used as an alternative to traditional control techniques for mobile robots. This method allows you to simulate the experience of a human expert. The benefits of using a network of fuzzy components are not limited to those provided distributed systems. Fuzzy cells are simple to configure while also providing high-level functions such as mergers and decision-making processes.

Abstract:There has been increased activity in the study of methods for multidisciplinary analysis and design. This field of research has been a busy one over the past decade, driven by advances in computational methods and significant new developments in computer hardware. There is a concern, however, that while new computers will derive their computational speed through parallel processing, current algorithmic procedures that have roots in serial thinking are poor candidates for use on such machines—a paradigm shift is required! Among new advances in computational methods, soft computing techniques have enjoyed a remarkable period of development and growth. Of these, methods of neural computing, evolutionary search, and fuzzy logic have been the most extensively explored in problems of multidisciplinary analysis and design. The paper will summarize important accomplishments to-date, of neurocomputing, fuzzy logic, and evolutionary search, including immune network modeling, in the field of multidisciplinary aerospace design.

We elaborate on the main technologies of CI: neural networks, fuzzy sets or Granular Computing, in general, and evolutionary optimization and identify their focal points and stress an overall synergistic character of these technologies, which ultimately gives rise to the highly symbiotic processing environment. Furthermore, the main advantages and limitations of the CI technologies are discussed. The key linkages of CI with the area of Software Engineering, especially its quantitative facet, are stressed.

Abstract:To support decision-making, organizations employ dissimilar tools during their projects execution control. However, they are still insufficient in environments with uncertain information and changing conditions in management styles. Deficiencies in systems for controlling the projects execution, affects the quality of their classification in aiding decision-making. An alternative solution is the introduction of soft computing techniques, which provide robustness, efficiency and adaptability at tools. This research proposes a method for project execution control based on soft computing and machine learning, which contributes to improve the project management. The proposed method allows the machine learning and adjusting of fuzzy inference systems to the project evaluation. The results are obtained from the execution of seven algorithms, which are based on space partitioning, neural networks, gradient descent and genetic algorithms. Validation of the proposed system, integrated to a project management tool, ratifies an improvement in the quality of project evaluation. The obtained result provides a contribution to the perfection of tools to support the decision-making in project management organization

Abstract:Measurement of the value of intellectual capital is increasingly receiving more and more attention. However, the evaluation of intellectual capital is complex, it involves many factors, such as peoples' utility (human subjective recognition) and the economic efficiency etc. that are very difficult to compute by traditional methods. In this paper we propose an integrated fuzzy evaluation procedure to measure intellectual capital. The main methods used in this research are fuzzy statistical analysis, fuzzy-weighting and fuzzy ranking. This integrated procedure is aimed at yielding appropriate and reasonable rankings and value of intellectual capital. Empirical study shows that fuzzy statistics with soft computing are more realistic and reasonable in the intellectual capital evaluation.
