Abstract:In the context of global communication and individual development, English has evolved into a universal lingua franca, playing a crucial role across various fields worldwide. Proficiency in spoken English is indispensable for the academic journey of Chinese college students. However, the current status of Chinese college students' spoken English proficiency reveals that there are still some aspects that need improvement. The communicative approach, recognized as an advanced language teaching methodology, proves to be instrumental in enhancing students' oral proficiency in English. This paper adopts the communicative approach perspective, employing a case study focused on a specific section of a Chinese students' English textbook. The study delves into the teaching path of "create-experience-practice-achieve". Building upon this teaching framework, a concrete teaching plan is designed, followed by an analysis and reflections, aiming to provide reflective insights as a practical reference for college-level oral English instruction. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the enhancement of college students' oral English proficiency.

Abstract:: Intercultural communication competence is crucial to the effective interactions with foreigners from other cultural background with foreign languages. With the increasing globalization and information, intercultural communication competence becomes more and more significant. Based on the world developing tendencies and deeper educational reform, there are increasing descriptions and requirements of cultivating students’ intercultural communication competence in the newly Senior High English Curriculum Standard 2017. However, there are many hindering obstacles from both subjective and objective perspectives. Besides, although some possible strategies have been put forward, a set of complete system about cultivating students’ intercultural communicative competence has not been established. How to cultivate students’ intercultural communicative competence effectively remains a serious problem. Therefore, this paper will make a brief analysis of previous studies about cultivating intercultural communicative competence by scholars at home and abroad, pointing out its prominent problems in Chinese senior high English classes, and introduce some possibly feasible approaches for reference. During the process, the educational ideas in English Curriculum Standard 2017 will be tightly correlated with.

Abstract:College English teaching is an important component of general higher education in China, with the main task of cultivating students' comprehensive English application abilities. In English teaching in universities, cultural introduction is an important means of cultivating students' cross-cultural communication abilities. Implementing cultural introduction in language teaching is of great help in cultivating students' cross-cultural communication abilities. In English teaching, teachers can use multimedia technology and network resources to teach and introduce excellent traditional Chinese culture, intangible cultural heritage, etc. into the classroom. At the same time, teachers can also cultivate cross-cultural communication skills by introducing Western countries' festivals, customs, and habits to students. Implementing cultural introduction in college English teaching can not only improve students' language proficiency, but also increase their understanding and recognition of English speaking countries.

How to improve college students’ critical thinking ability has become a focus of attention in the education sector in recent years. English, as an internationally recognized language, has become the important tool for international communication. Abstract:Under the background of globalization and the informationization era, higher vocational English education is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The cultivation of intercultural communicative competence has become a hot topic in the field of education, especially for higher vocational students, this competence is not only related to the effect of language learning but also directly affects the competitiveness and adaptability in the internationalized workplace in the future. At present, the following major problems exist in the cultivation of students' intercultural communication competence in higher vocational English education, the disconnection between teaching materials and actual intercultural communication requirements, the limitations of teachers' intercultural teaching awareness and methods, the insufficiency of students' intercultural experience and awareness, and the insufficiency of the school's educational resources and platforms. Based on this, this paper aims to discuss how to effectively improve students' intercultural communication competence in higher vocational English education, analyze the problems existing in the current educational practice, and propose corresponding improvement strategies.

Abstract:Teaching practice ability is the external manifestation of the professional development of English teachers and it is the essential element of improving the quality of teachers. English normal students are an important source of basic English education in China, so it is of great importance to cultivating English normal students' teaching practice ability. In this study, the literature research method and questionnaire survey method were used to study the current situation of the teaching practice ability of English normal students at Yangtze University. It can be found that students with a more thorough understanding of the core competence have stronger teaching practice ability, which shows that core competence is an important theoretical support to improve the teaching practice ability of students. Finally, 3 strategies are proposed to promote students’ teaching practice ability, (1) Imperceptibly affecting, and strengthening teachers’ emotions and beliefs, (2) Improving the level of teachers and building a team of university teachers with core competence, and (3) Optimizing the structure of practical courses.

Abstract:As a college English teacher, the author has witnessed many teachers who focus on linguistic competence of students or high marks in academic examinations. It is one of the main reasons for low efficiency in college English teaching that nonverbal communication is neglected in daily classroom teaching. This paper deals with the necessity and importance of using nonverbal communication in college English teaching and examines the four categories of nonverbal communication which consist of body language, paralanguage, object language and environmental language. Furthermore, the author aims to figure out several tentative suggestions on how to cultivate students’ intercultural nonverbal communication competence in college English teaching.

Abstract:This paper briefly summarizes the general requirements of the new curriculum for the cultivation of cultural awareness in English public speaking courses. This paper further analyzes and studies the basic situation of cultural awareness training in college English public speaking courses and some classroom strategies to strengthen cultural awareness training. Abstract:Despite the increasing need to develop students' intercultural competence in China, the relationship between the approaches used to teach the English language and the cultivation of students' intercultural competence remains largely under-researched. Based on Byram's intercultural model and the intercultural language teaching framework, using action research we developed and implemented new teaching approaches to cultivate intercultural competence among students using a quasi-experimental design that combined qualitative and quantitative methods. Two classes of undergraduate students majoring in Business English were randomly selected, with one being assigned as the treatment group (n = 33) and the other as the control group (n = 32). The primary data consisted of questionnaires, journals, and interviews. After participating in a three-month intercultural speaking course where the treatment group students were guided through an intercultural learning process of noticing, comparing, and reflecting, findings revealed that they developed intercultural competence regarding their attitudes, knowledge, skills, and awareness. Implications for facilitating students' intercultural competence are discussed.

Abstract:Nowadays, the world needs high-quality talents with multicultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence. English majors have advantages in language. They should adapt to the needs of the times and contribute to the practice of Chinese culture going out and the community of human destiny. It is important for both teachers and English majors to master strategies for intercultural communication. The paper takes foreign language teachers and English majors as the research objects. Quantitative and qualitative methods are adopted to investigate the current level of English majors' intercultural communicative competence and the problems encountered in cultivating students' intercultural communicative competence. Based on the results of the survey, it analyzes and puts forward strategies to improve the intercultural communicative competence of English majors. The results of this paper are instructive for teachers to optimize intercultural communicative teaching and develop intercultural communicative competence for English majors and provide new ideas and methods for future research in related fields.

Impact of English-Speaking Environments and Chinese Language Pronunciation on the Speaking Proficiency of English Learners in China: A Comprehensive Study

Abstract:English is widely regarded as a global language, and it has become increasingly important for global communication. As a result, the demand for English language education has been on the rise. In China, a significant number of individuals are engaged in learning the English language. However, many English learners in China encounter challenges when it comes to developing their speaking skills. This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the speaking skills of English learners in China. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a questionnaire from 455 college students from three different courses (arts, science & business, and commerce) in China. The study findings identified several factors impacting the speaking skills of English learners in China, including limited opportunities for speaking practice, fear of making mistakes, limited exposure to English-speaking environments, inadequate teacher training, and the influence of the Chinese language on English pronunciation. Additionally, the study highlighted that learners who have greater exposure to English-speaking environments and more opportunities for speaking practice tend to demonstrate better speaking skills. The novelty of this study lies in its valuable insights into the factors influencing the speaking skills of English learners in China. Based on the findings, it is recommended that English teachers receive enhanced training to effectively teach speaking skills, and learners should be provided with increased opportunities for speaking practice, such as participating in group discussions or engaging in speaking activities.
