Abstract:Traditionally, the market microstructure research focuses on the single asset-specific attributes of liquidity. This paper emphasizes the commonality aspect of liquidity across assets in Shanghai Stock Exchange (SHSE) market. Using data of the common A shares of SHSE-listed firms during the sample period from 1994 to 2007, we find that the liquidity commonality contains both market-wide and industry-wide components in SHSE, and is prevalent across different market value sets. Through assuming a similar pattern in the systematic risk of firm's return, we find a co-integrated relation between systematic risk and systematic liquidity, which is mainly due to their common aggregate determinants as market volatility, market return, and market liquidity.

Abstract:With data from Shanghai Stock Exchange, we examine systematic liquidity of Chinese stock market, which is an order-driven emerging market. In contrast to the results from quote-driven markets and matured markets, we find a more significant market component in individual stock's liquidity. We also find a negative relation between firm size and sensitivity to changes in market components on the Chinese stock market,which is very different from the American and Hong Kong market.

Abstract:Turnover is generally used to measure liquidity in China and always in high level in China stock market .This paper compares liquidity of China and US stock market from the perspectives of market depth and width through 10-year historical data from July 2005 to June 2015 and finds out that liquidity of China stock market is indeed better than that of US stock market .It would be better to increase dividend ratio and refrain speculation to adjust this high liquidity resulted by excessive pursuit of short-term capital gain .But also ,turnover has low interpretation efficiency of liquidity .For China Stock Market ,Martin In-dex ,adjusted by price and shares outstanding ,and Execution Cost can explain stock return better ,making them more suitable liquidity depth and width indicators .

Abstract:On the recognized of essence of liquidity, we thought the essence of liquidity was the mutual-convert ability between stock and cash,and liquidity was satisfied for the normal trading demand for investors.We explored the characters of stock from theories and empirical analysis in the multi-relationship among liquidity,company size and trade volume dollar;the relationship between liquidity and stock price;and the stability of liquidity,the results showed that:first,under certain company size,if the stock could afford higher trading volume dollar,the better liquidity;and under certain trading volume dollar,the larger of the company size,the better liquidity;second,the higher the stock price,the better liquidity;third,liquidity had stability character in certain period.

Abstract:This paper examines the relationship between liquidity risk and stock return with the trade data of the A shares in ShangHai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange.The method used in this paper is two-pass cross-section regression.After decomposing the liquidity risk into systematic liquidity risk and individual liquidity risk,we find that both risks have significant effect on the stock return.What is different from empirical evidence in developed markets is that individual liquidity risk has more significant effect on stock return than systematic liquidity risk in both Chinese stock markets.Therefore future research on the liquidity pricing in Chinese stock market has to consider factors of individual liquidity risk.

Abstract:Based on exchange demand of organization investors,survey on 15 Chinese organization investors,and other data,this paper finds that Chinese liquidity level is higher than other major stock markets such as NYSE,and organization investors are satisfied with the Chinese general liquidity level.However,fluctuation rate of Chinese stock markets are high,and have unilateral Granger causal-effect relationship.For organization investors,the first problem is that the liquidity risk is too high and difficult to separate with price risk,rather than the liquidity level is too high or too low.

Abstract:This study examines to what extent liquidity is determined by common underlying factors in an emerging market that has adopted an order-driven trading system. Using China as a case for the study, we select a broad sample of stocks from two separate Chinese stock exchanges to measure and analyse market-wide movements in liquidity. Evidence found in this study confirms that commonality is present in emerging markets, and seems significant and pervasive. Its existence is robust to the influences of size, industry, and up and down markets effects. In parallel to a market-wide component, we find in the commonality construct an industrial component. Liquidity of large firms' stocks is found to be more likely to move with market liquidity. We also find that fund managers exhibit herding behaviour in their liquidity management. In the face of shocks to market liquidity, Chinese market participants tend to adjust both the spread and the depth. In a down market, market liquidity moves more widely and commonality in liquidity becomes more significant. These findings about the Chinese stock market provide useful pointers for understanding commonality in emerging economies and shed critical light on a new dimension of the working of emerging markets.
A New Identification Method of the Market Downturns in Chinese A-shares Using Liquidity Network

Abstract:With an increasing interest in big datasets, there exists a rise in the application of complex networks to financial big data. Many literatures have indicated that liquidity plays a crucial part in interpreting the fluctuation in stock returns. However, most researchers focus on relationship between the liquidity of individual stock and returns but seldom investigate market-wide liquidity. In this paper, we propose a way based on a dynamic stock liquidity network to analyze the change of market-wide liquidity. Then two indexes are built to quantify the daily change of stock liquidity correlation network, which are calculated from the maximum connected subgraph. When comparing our indexes with market index in Chinese A-shares, we empirically find that they are sensitive to market downturns and can recognize the tendency of stock market. Furthermore, the stock market investment behavior in Chinese A-shares tends to keep the same with previous investment behavior during market upturns and it differs apparently when market downturns.

Abstract:The measurement of liquidity is the basis of research in market microstructure studies. Based on the intraday tick trading data on Chinese stock markets from 2009 to 2016, we run horseraces of monthly estimates of newly and widely employed low-frequency liquidity proxies in the literature against three types of bid-ask spread high-frequency benchmarks. The empirical results reveal that the closing percent quoted spread estimator has the smallest estimation error, and the FHT estimator has the highest correlation. Moreover, these two estimators win the majority of horseraces in terms of estimation error and correlation comparison with the high-frequency benchmarks. Meanwhile, we find that most liquidity estimators based on Roll's model do not perform well. Because the performance metrics of estimation precision or correlation performance on related liquidity issues differ depending on the type of research, our study offers appropriate liquidity measures for different research purposes.

Abstract:This paper discusses the differences and commonality among the different industries' stocks of Shanghai stock market.Bid-ask spread,depth and turnover are used to measure the liquidity in this paper.The cross-sectional research results show that the differences among different industries' stocks exist,which provide a criterion for investors to construct their portfolios.The regression results find there is a strong commonality in the time series among the different industries' stocks.The commonality shows the liquidity has a co-moving in time series.This characteristic of liquidity among different industries' stocks illuminate that a portfolio manager could not reduce transaction costs by spreading his investment among industries.

Abstract:This paper analyzed empirically the market liquidity,volatility, and trading characteristics of China's stock market in an order-driven environment. It was found that the market liquidity is a monotonous decreasing function of firm size averagely, and the market liquidity is negative correlated with the volatility and positively correlated with the trading size.

Abstract:Using a new statistical procedure suitable to test efficient market hypothesis in presence of volatility clustering, we find significant evidence against the weak form of efficient market hypothesis for both Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets, although they have become more efficient at the later stage. We also find that Share A markets are more efficient than Share B markets, but there is no clear evidence on which stock market, Shanghai or Shenzhen, is more efficient. These findings are robust to volatility clustering, a key feature of high-frequency financial time series. They have important implications on predictability of stock returns and on efficacy of capital asset pricing and allocation in Chinese economy.

Abstract:Using the high-frequency transaction data from 2006 to 2015 in the Chinese stock market,we compute liquidity benchmarks of three dimensions—width,depth,and price impact,and run horseraces of low-frequency liquidity proxies, which are commonly used in the literature of past two decades,against liquidity benchmarks. Based on three performance metrics,i.e.,average cross-sectional correlation, portfolio time-series correlation, and prediction error, our empirical results show that in the Chinese stock market, RollKLis the best low-frequency liquidity proxy in the width dimension;trading volume is the best low-frequency liquidity proxy in the depth dimension; AmihudYCJis the best low-frequency liquidity proxy in the price impact dimension and Amihud is also a good one. This paper provides a reference for future studies on liquidity in the Chinese stock market.

Abstract:This paper designs the liquidity compound measure,and then constructs the liquidity model on securities price difference with such variable as trading volume,securities liquidity and securities market liquidity.The theoretical analysis shows that the price difference can be explained by liquidity difference and the liquidity value added does exist.Then the paper discusses the liquidity value added with the A and B share,and the result suggests that stock liquidity and stock market liquidity can explain the A and B share price difference,which also means that liquidity value added exists in China's stock market,and liquidity value added is affected by the stock liquidity,stock market liquidity and trading volume.

Abstract:Although liquidity has received wide attention in asset pricing literature over the past decades, how stock liquidity is priced in emerging markets remains unclear. We find that liquidity plays an important role in explaining the cross-section and time-series variation in expected returns by incorporating multi-dimensional liquidity proxies in the spread, depth, and trading activity. The predictive power persists after controlling the several conventional pricing factors. We also find that the high illiquidity quintile generates higher monthly risk-adjusted returns than the low illiquidity quintile, ranging from 3.2% to 8.4% per month. The results are robust to alternative stock liquidity measures and sampling criteria. Our findings highlight the profitability of liquidity-based trading strategy in the Chinese stock market.

Abstract:The treasury market of Shanghai Stock Exchange is divided into two stages according to the trend of treasury index.One is the falling stage,the other is the rising stage.Several liquidity measures are designed to show the status of liquidity,and the treasury index represents the yield.During the both stages,all the liquidity measures and the treasury index are 1 order integration process,which is testified by the Advanced Dickey-Fuller Test.Then the Johansen Test indicates the cointegration relationship between the liquidity measures and the treasury index.Through the Vector Error Correction Model,the impulse response curve and the Granger Causality Test,it is showed that the influence on the yield from the impulse of liquidity is different between the falling and rising stage.The phenomenon of liquidity premium can only be observed in the falling stage.In the meanwhile,the influence on liquidity from the impulse of yield is consistent.

Abstract:In this paper,we bring forward the method to measure investors' buy and sell order imbalance and discuss the scope of application,and then investigate the relationship between order imbalance and stock return and liquidity based on trading data in Shanghai A-share market.The empirical result shows that there exists significant positive relationship between lagged and contemporaneous return,and the contemporaneous and lagged order imbalances have significant effect on current return.There are obviously return difference between positive and negative imbalance trading days.The returns on positive order imbalance trading days are less than negative ones.Investors prefer sell orders,and the stock liquidity is positively related to order imbalance.
