Abstract:This paper reports a case study of an inter-organizational information system (IOS) of Cisco and Xiao Tong in China. We interviewed their senior managers, heads of departments and employees who have been directly affected in their work. Other sources of information are company documents and publicly available background information. The study examines the benefits of the IOS for both corporations. The research also reveals seven critical success factors for the IOS, namely intensive stimulation, shared vision, cross-organizational implementation team, high integration with internal information systems, inter-organizational business process re-engineering, advanced legacy information system and infrastructure and shared industry standard.

Abstract:With the rapid diffusion of interorganizational information systems (IOS) as a strategic tool, enterprise concerns more about the IOS implementation critical success factors (CSFs) to gain the maximum benefit from it. However, previous researches have put little energy into the research of IOS implementation CSFs. This paper proposes a three-level model of IOS implementation CSFs with seven sub-factors in total. Supported by a real case study, this paper illustrates each factor in detail from both the proactive and reactive enterprise viewpoint, providing useful recommendations for practice.

Abstract:Business literature identifies trust as a key factor in promoting electronic interfirm cooperation (EIC). We believe, however, that such findings cannot be generalized to all forms of trust nor to all types of EIC. Specifically, we propose that a high presence of a certain form of trust called social trust may actually impede EIC when it is supported by proprietary-standard interorganizational systems (proprietary-IOS). Instead, the presence of high social trust will encourage companies to adopt EIC supported by open-standard IOS (open-IOS).

Abstract:Information technologies and information systems play an increasingly important role in gaining and sustaining competitive edge for enterprises. A large quantity of Chinese enterprises endeavored to establish or upgrade their information systems. However, the failure rate of such projects remains high in China. There have been a large number of analyses of critical factors of information system projects in the literature, and this paper attempts to categorize the critical failure factors mentioned in the literature and to do a questionnaire survey accordingly. The survey is conducted in Zhejiang Province of China, to understand which failure factors are perceived as the most influential by the respondents.

Abstract:Purpose - Little research to date has investigated how firm experience and industry experience in related inter-organizational systems (IOS) affect the adoption of open IOS. The purpose of this paper is to address this issue.Design/methodology/approach - Based on large-scale archival data from European countries, logistic regression was used to test the research model.Findings - It was found that firm experience in EDI and experience in proprietary IOS positively affect the adoption of open IOS; industry experience in EDI and experience in proprietary IOS have a negative effect on the adoption of open IOS; and industry experience in open IOS has a positive effect on the adoption of open IOS.Research limitations/implications - One main limitation is that the measures of the variables are based on single-item and dichotomic scales. Also, this study only focused on the industry level and alternative explanations for the results have not been ruled out. The main implication is that IOS experience at firm and industry levels should be distinguished, as they can have different effects on the adoption of open IOS.Originality/value - This paper is among the first that examines how the experience in prior generations of IOS affects the adoption of open IOS. Furthermore, the authors expand the literature by distinguishing IOS experience at two levels firm level and industry level and show that it is necessary to recognize the different roles of different types of experience.

Abstract:The ERP implementation success ratio is still quite low in enterprises abroad.The foreign scholars have carried out in-depth research on the critical success factors(CSF) for ERP implementation.However,for the difference of the ERP application environment,the CSF for Chinese Enterprises are different.Therefore,the emphases attached to the ERP implementation should be different.This article puts foreword a CSF system for Chinese Enterprises and analyses the key points and the difficulties of the ERP implementation in terms of organization and management,business application,ERP production and technology,personnel and group team,education and training,project management,and cultural conflict.It provides a guideline for the successful ERP implement of Chinese enterprises.

Abstract:Previous literature revealed that the lack of knowledge resources and the existence of an assimilation gap may be responsible for the high failure rate in the Inter-Organizational Information Systems (IOS) post-adoption stage of value co-creation. Drawing on social capital theory and knowledge-based theory, this paper aims to explore how structural (social interaction), relational (trust), and cognitive (shared IOS vision) capital influences knowledge acquisition among key partners and further improves IOS assimilation and value co-creation. The hypotheses, proposed in this work, were tested by partial least squares (PLS) analysis of 150 sets of survey data conducted in Chinese companies. The obtained results suggest that all three aspects of social capital have an indirect, yet significant influence on IOS assimilation and IOS value co-creation. This study argues that, knowledge acquisition plays a fully mediating role in structural capital and relational capital effect on IOS assimilation and IOS value co-creation. From the same stance, it adds that knowledge acquisition has a partial mediation effect on the cognitive capital-IOS assimilation link and cognitive capital-IOS value co-creation link. Moreover, the work at hand presumes that, if implemented effectively, IOS assimilation sets fourth IOS value co-creation.

Abstract:The study of the critical success factors (CSFs) for e-business systems has emerged into an active research area in the domain of information system. In this paper, we build a model of success factors of e-business for the Chinese service industry. Eight hypotheses are proposed. With the survey data from 216 firms in China, the hypotheses are verified using regression analysis. Study results reveal that four critical success factors, namely, information sharing capabilities, collaborative process capabilities, knowledge management and strategy. These critical factors improve the success rate of implementing e-business in service enterprises.

Abstract:Lots of information systems are invested blindly in the process of enterprise informationization, but there is no effective method to evaluate their benefit. Accordingly, a fuzzy synthesized evaluation method based on critical success factor (CSF) and business process value is proposed. It analyses and quantifies the value of business process and the value which information system effect on the business process. The method is useful for analyzing the implementation benefit and weakness of information system.

Abstract:The successful use of inter-organizational information systems( IOS) has become a key element in improving firm performance. In the process of IOS usage,systems,business process and management process are coordinated by the inter-organizational relationship and knowledge behavior. Based on the social capital and knowledge related theories,this study builds a theoretical model to explain how the social capital influences IOS assimilation. The hypotheses are tested using the partial least squares( PLS) analyses method. The results demonstrate that the two important dimensions of social capital—structural capital and cognitive capital—affect IOS assimilation significantly,which are mediated by the process of knowledge acquisition; the other important dimension of social capital—relationship capital—is also important to IOS assimilation,but it is affected by the causal relationship of the three dimensions of social capital. Conclusion of this study will enrich the information systems assimilation theory,and guide firms to absorb IOS better.

Abstract:With the advent of supply chain competition era, vertical IOS (Inter-organizational Information System) is becoming a more and more important part of IS expenditure, and therefore the problem of how to evaluate its business value is absolutely worth of research. Hence, the purpose of this paper was to propose a model, which summarized the business value of vertical IOS by means of case study, which studied a networking company in China. The paper put forward a practical model, which gave a framework of how to evaluate the business value of Vertical IOS from three dimensions with each dimension involving several factors based on supply chain research. The case in this paper used this model as the framework of evaluation and also as a validation of the usability of the model. At the end of the paper, the author identified 3 management practices, which related to how to evaluate and to fully utilize the business value of vertical IOS.

Abstract:Based on virtual team literature review and in-depth analyses,this paper identified 15 critical success factors(CSF) of virtual team.Then a three-dimension(objective,member,and communication) critical success factors model of virtual team was constructed,and 12 IT corporations were surveyed;the survey got 242 pieces of effective data.The 15 critical success factors were validated by using descriptive statistical method,and the three-dimension model was verified by using clustering analysis,it showed that the 15 critical success factors belong to five areas,which are common objective,IT skills,members' attributes,leadership,and communication capacity.Finally,this paper presented specific strategies for virtual team construction and management according to the statistical results.
The Impact of IOS Use and Interpersonal Ties on Digital Innovation: Insights from Boundary Spanning and Institutional Theories.

Abstract:Drawing upon the boundary spanning and institutional theories, this study investigates the influence of interorganizational systems (IOS) use and interpersonal ties between a firm and its suppliers on a firm’s digital innovation and how such effects are moderated by institutional distance between the firm and its suppliers. Based on a pilot test of 123 Chinese firms, our results find that a firm’s use of IOS significantly improves its digital innovation, while interpersonal ties between the firm and its suppliers do not significantly improve the firm’s digital innovation. Further, we find that institutional distance between the firm and its suppliers differentially moderates the influences of IOS use and interpersonal ties on digital innovation. Specifically, institutional distance negatively moderates the impact of IOS use on digital innovation yet positively moderates the impact of interpersonal ties on digital innovation. We further discuss the theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the current study.

Abstract:Although the adoption of inter-organizational systems (IOS) has been studied extensively in the existing literature, relatively little research attention has been paid to how small firms in supply chains are influenced by their larger partners in making their system sourcing decisions. In this study, we examine how small suppliers may choose their system sourcing approaches to better serve and collaborate with their large customers in supply chains. Our empirical findings suggest that information processing requirements and collaboration needs drive small suppliers to adopt more commercial off-the-shelf software package (i.e., external sourcing) to build their IOSs. Moreover, we find that small suppliers take such external sourcing as a way to achieve system effectiveness and enhance their information processing capabilities. The findings of this study generate important theoretical and managerial implications for IOS adoption and organizational information processing.

Abstract:From the organizational level, this study aimed at exploring how the structure of networks and external learning influences assimilation in the post-adoption stage after adopting Inter-organizational System (IOS). The model and hypotheses were tested by partial least squares (PLS) analysis of 150 sets of survey data conducted in Chinese companies. The results indicate that the two aspects of structural social capital (social interaction and network centrality) influence IOS assimilation significantly, and this is fully mediated by external learning. However, the impact of another aspect of structural social capital-network ties-is not significant.

Abstract:Connection with the actual using issues of inter-organizational information systems(IOS), this study focuses on analysis assimilation of inter-organizational information systems in the post-implementation stage within organizations. Based on knowledge related theory, we discuss the organizational knowledge application process how to influence IOS assimilation, building a theoretical model of relationships among knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, knowledge utilization and integration and IOS assimilation. Survey data from companies as the main source of data analysis. The hypotheses are tested using the partial least squares analyses method. The results demonstrate that knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, knowledge utilization and integration are all have significant impact on IOS assimilation, specifically, knowledge sharing, knowledge utilization and integration play an important role in mediating the effect of knowledge acquisition on IOS assimilation, which provide strong support knowledge application related variables as predictors of IOS assimilation. Conclusion of the study will enrich the information systems adoption and assimilation theory, guiding firm to absorb IOS better.
