Advance in Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis

Abstract:Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a disease that results from a sensitization to fungus aspergillus fumigatus.It is characterized by elevated serum total IgE level and peripheral eosinophilia,pulmonary infiltrates and central bronchiectasis.The lung tissue can be damaged irreversibly without effective treatment resulting in respiratory falure,so early diagnosis and treatment is of great importance.The treatment of ABPA depends on the stage of the disease,clinical characteristics,serum IgE level,pulmonary function and chest radiology.Previously,corticosteroid was used as a first choice,but now the combination of corticosteroid and antifungal drugs is more recommended for the purpose of controlling sensitization to fungus aspergillus fumigatus and clearing aspergillus fumigatus in airway.This article reviews the current development of diagnosis and treatment of ABPA.
