Abstract:Let $f$ be a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb P^k$ of degree $d.$ For each quasi-attractor of $f$ we construct a finite set of currents with attractive behaviors. To every such an attracting current is associated an equilibrium measure which allows for a systematic ergodic theoretical approach in the study of quasi-attractors of $\mathbb P^k.$ As a consequence, we deduce that there exist at most countably many quasi-attractors, each one with topological entropy equal to a multiple of $\log d.$ We also show that the study of these analytic objects can initiate a bifurcation theory for attracting sets.

Abstract:Dynamical behavior of a class of nonhyperbolic discrete systems are considered. These systems are generated by iterating planar maps that are piecewise isometries, and they arise as mathematical models for signal processing, digital filters and modulator dynamics. Planar piecewise isometries may be discontinuous and/or non-invertible. First, the authors consider attraction caused by discontinuity in planar piecewise isometries. Namely, they have shown that the maximal invariant set can induce an invariant measure, and all the Lyapunov exponents are zero under this invariant measure. Second, they discuss various definitions of global attractors and their existence and uniqueness for discontinuous maps, and introduce a few examples in which the attractors are created due to discontinuity. Third, they study the relation between invariance and invertibility for various nonhyperbolic maps, and finally they investigate decomposability of global attractors for certain nonhyperbolic systems.

Abstract:The paper deals with topical issues of modern mathematical theory of dynamical chaos and its applications. At present, it is customary to assume that dynamical chaos in finitedimensional smooth systems can exist in three different forms. This is dissipative chaos, the mathematical image of which is a strange attractor; conservative chaos, for which the entire phase space is a large "chaotic sea" with randomly spaced elliptical islands inside it; and mixed dynamics, characterized by the principal inseparability in the phase space of attractors, repellers and conservative elements of dynamics. In the present paper (which opens a cycle of three our papers), elements of the theory of pseudo-hyperbolic attractors of multidimensional maps are presented. Such attractors, as well as hyperbolic ones, are genuine strange attractors, but they allow the existence of homoclinic tangencies. We give a mathematical definition of a pseudo-hyperbolic attractor for the case of multidimensional maps, from which we derive the necessary conditions for its existence in the three-dimensional case, formulated using the Lyapunov exponents. We also describe some phenomenological scenarios for the appearance of pseudo-hyperbolic attractors of various types in one-parameter families of three-dimensional diffeomorphisms, we propose new methods for studying such attractors (in particular, a method of saddle charts and a modified method of Lyapunov diagrams). We consider also three-dimensional generalized Henon maps as examples.

Abstract:We prove that if a smooth vector field $F$ of $S^3$ generates a sufficiently complicated heteroclinic knot, the flow also generates infinitely many periodic orbits, which persist under smooth perturbations which preserve the heteroclinic knot. Consequentially, we then associate a Template with the flow dynamics - regardless of whether $F$ satisfies any hyperbolicity condition or not. In addition, inspired by the Thurston-Nielsen Classification Theorem, we also conclude topological criteria for the existence of chaotic dynamics for three-dimensional flows - which we apply to study both the Rössler and Lorenz attractors.

The Topological Complexity of Cantor Attractors in One-Dimensional Dynamics

Abstract:For a non-flat $C^3$ unimodal map with a Cantor attractor, we show that for any open cover $\mathcal U$ of this attractor, the complexity function $p(\mathcal U, n)$ is of order $n\log n$. In the appendix, we construct a non-renormalizable map with a Cantor attractor for which $p(\mathcal{U}, n)$ is bounded from above for any open cover $\mathcal{U}$.

Abstract:In this paper,by supposing E to be the attractor of an iterated function system(X,f1,…,fN) which satisfies the strong separation condition,defining a continuous mapping f∶E→E,f(x)=f-1j(x),xfj(E),j=1,…,N,and setting(p1,p2,…,pN) as a probability vector and μ the corresponding invariant measure,some complex dynamical behaviors of the continuous mapping are investigated.The results indicate that,for the mapping f,there exists a finitely chaotic set CE satisfying μ(C)=μ(E)=1,and that the mapping f has some chaotic minimal subsystem with zero topological entropy in the sense of Li-Yorke.Some existing results are finally generalized in the paper.

Abstract:On every compact 3-manifold, we build a non-empty open set $\cU$ of $\Diff^1(M)$ such that, for every $r\geq 1$, every $C^r$-generic diffeomorphism $f\in\cU\cap \Diff^r(M)$ has no topological attractors. On higher dimensional manifolds, one may require that $f$ has neither topological attractors nor topological repellers. Our examples have finitely many quasi attractors. For flows, we may require that these quasi attractors contain singular points. Finally we discuss alternative definitions of attractors which may be better adapted to generic dynamics.

Abstract:We deal with the finite family $\mathcal{F}$ of continuous maps on the Hausdorff space. A nonempty compact subset $A$ of such space is called a strict attractor if it has an open neighborhood $U$ such that $A=\lim_{n\to\infty}\mathcal{F}^n(S)$ for every nonempty compact $S\subset U$. Every strict attractor is a pointwise attractor, which means that the set $\{x\in X ; \lim_{n\to\infty}\mathcal{F}^n(x)=A\}$ contains $A$ in its interior. We present a class of examples of pointwise attractors - from the finite set to the Sierpiński carpet - which are not strict when we add to the system one nonexpansive map.

The Non-Dicritical Order and Attracting Domains of Holomorphic Maps Tangent to the Identity

Abstract:We study the local dynamics of holomorphic maps f in Cn tangent to the identity at a fixed point p with a non-degenerate characteristic direction [v]. In [M. Hakim, Analytic transformation of (Cp, 0) tangent to the identity, Duke Math. J.92 (1998) 403–428], n - 1 invariants αj, 1 ≤ j ≤ n - 1, called the directors, were associated to [v] and it was shown that if Re αj > 0 for all j then f has an attracting domain at p tangent to [v]. In this paper, we study the case Re αj = 0 for some j. With the help of a new invariant μ called the non-dicritical order, we show that f has an attracting domain at p tangent to [v] if μ ≥ 1. We also study the "spiral domains" when μ = 0. For n = 2, we show that f has an attracting domain at p tangent to [v] if and only if either the director α > 0 or μ ≥ 1.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Hausdorff dimension of Cantor attractors of smooth interval maps with non-flat critical points. We prove that the Hausdorff dimension is bounded from above by a constant less than 1 which depends only on the number and order of the critical points.
Wild attractors for Fibonacci maps

Abstract:Existence of wild attractors -- attractors whose basin has a positive Lebesgue measure but is not a residual set -- has been one of central themes in one-dimensional dynamics. It has been demonstrated by H. Bruin et al. that Fibonacci maps with a sufficiently flat critical point admit a wild attractor. We propose a constructive trichotomy that describes possible scenarios for the Lebesgue measure of the Fibonacci attractor based on a computable criterion. We use this criterion, together with a computer-assisted proof of existence of a Fibonacci renormalization $2$-cycle for non-integer critical degrees, to demonstrate that Fibonacci maps do not have a wild attractor when the degree of the critical point is $d=3.8$ (and, conjecturally, for $2< d \le 3.8$), and do admit it when $d=5.1$ (and, conjecturally, for $d \ge 5.1$).

Robust chaos in $\mathbb{R}^n$

Abstract:We treat $n$-dimensional piecewise-linear continuous maps with two pieces, each of which has exactly one unstable direction, and identify an explicit set of sufficient conditions for the existence of a chaotic attractor. The conditions correspond to an open set within the space of all such maps, allow all $n \ge 2$, and allow all possible values for the unstable eigenvalues in the limit that all stable eigenvalues tend to zero. To prove an attractor exists we use the stable manifold of a fixed point to construct a trapping region; to prove the attractor is chaotic we use the unstable directions to construct an invariant expanding cone for the derivatives of the pieces of the map. We also show the chaotic attractor is persistent under nonlinear perturbations, thus when such an attractor is created locally in a border-collision bifurcation of a general piecewise-smooth system, it persists and is chaotic for an interval of parameter values beyond the bifurcation.

Robustly Chain Transitive Attractor with Singularities of Difierent Indices

Abstract:Given a 4-manifold, we build a non-empty C1-open set of vector flelds having a (chain transitive) attractor containing singularities of difierent indices. Then, we start the study of the hyperbolic properties of such kind of robust singular attractors. 1.1 Motivations The dynamic of ∞ows is very related with the dynamics of difieomorphisms, and their studies followed almost parallel ways. From many points of view, the dynamics of vector flelds in dimension n looks like difieomorphisms in dimension n ¡ 1. However, there is a phenomenon which is really speciflc to vector flelds: the existence of singularities (zero of the vector fleld). This speciflcity is specially important when the singularities are not isolated from the rest of the dynamics, that is, when there are regular recurrent orbits accumulating the singularities. The flrst example with this behavior was announced by Lorenz in (25), exhibiting simple family of algebraic vector flelds inR3 with an experimental evidence that the orbits tend to some compact set (called the Lorenz attractor) containing regular periodic orbits and a singularity. In (1), (20) and (21) the authors give a geometric construction of C1-open sets of vector flelds on 3-manifolds, having a topological transitive attractor containing periodic orbits and one singularity.
Dimension Paradox of Irrationally Indifferent Attractors

Abstract:In this paper we study the geometry of the attractors of holomorphic maps with an irrationally indifferent fixed point. We prove that for an open set of such holomorphic systems, the local attractor at the fixed point has Hausdorff dimension two, provided the asymptotic rotation at the fixed point is of sufficiently high type and does not belong to Herman numbers. As an immediate corollary, the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of any such rational map with a Cremer fixed point is equal to two. Moreover, we show that for a class of asymptotic rotation numbers, the attractor satisfies Karpinska's dimension paradox. That is, the the set of end points of the attractor has dimension two, but without those end points, the dimension drops to one.

Abstract:The dynamics of a dissipative and area contracting planar homeomorphism were described in terms of the attractor. This was a subset of the plane defined as the maximal compact invariant set. We proved that the coexistence of two fixed points and an -cycle produced some topological complexity: the attractor cannot be arcwise connected. The proofs were based on the theory of prime ends.

Abstract:We consider piecewise $C^2$ non-flat maps of the interval and show that, for Lebesgue almost every point, its omega-limit set is either a periodic orbit, a cycle of intervals or the closure of the orbits of a subset of the critical points. In particular, every piecewise $C^2$ non-flat map of the interval displays only a finite number of non-periodic attractors.

Abstract:We show how the existence of three objects, $\Omega_{\rm trap}$, ${\bf W}$, and $C$, for a continuous piecewise-linear map $f$ on $\mathbb{R}^N$, implies that $f$ has a topological attractor with a positive Lyapunov exponent. First, $\Omega_{\rm trap} \subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is trapping region for $f$. Second, ${\bf W}$ is a finite set of words that encodes the forward orbits of all points in $\Omega_{\rm trap}$. Finally, $C \subset T \mathbb{R}^N$ is an invariant expanding cone for derivatives of compositions of $f$ formed by the words in ${\bf W}$. We develop an algorithm that identifies these objects for two-dimensional homeomorphisms comprised of two affine pieces. The main effort is in the explicit construction of $\Omega_{\rm trap}$ and $C$. Their existence is equated to a set of computable conditions in a general way. This results in a computer-assisted proof of chaos throughout a relatively large regime of parameter space. We also observe how the failure of $C$ to be expanding can coincide with a bifurcation of $f$. Lyapunov exponents are evaluated using one-sided directional derivatives so that forward orbits that intersect a switching manifold (where $f$ is not differentiable) can be included in the analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the non-autonomous p-Laplacian equation with a dynamic boundary condition. The existence and structure of a compact uniform attractor in $W^{1,p}(\Omega)\times W^{1-1/p,p}(\Gamma)$ are established for the case of time-dependent internal force $h(t)$. While the nonlinearity $f$ and the boundary nonlinearity $g$ are dissipative for large values without restriction on the growth order of the polynomial.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of a class of non-autonomous non-local fractional stochastic parabolic equation driven by multiplicative white noise on the entire space R-n. We first prove the pathwise well-posedness of the equation and define a continuous non-autonomous cocycle in L-2(R-n). We then prove the existence and uniqueness of tempered pullback attractors for the cocycle under certain dissipative conditions. The periodicity of the tempered attractors is also proved when the deterministic non-autonomous external terms are periodic in time. The pullback asymptotic compactness of the cocycle in L-2(R-n) is established by the uniform estimates on the tails of solutions for sufficiently large space and time variables.
