Abstract:To effectively reduce the injection-machine mould-board weight,sequential optimization design method starting from high level topology optimization to low level parameter optimization was proposed.Based on the topology optimization design and parameter optimization design theory in the method,the topology optimization mathematical model of the structure was established by density method and solved by optimality criteria(OC) method.Sensitive filtering method was used to eliminate checkerboards and mesh dependencies,and that the topologically optimized model was modified and trimmed.The modified model was parametrically optimized by sequential unconstrained minimization technique(SUMT) based sub-problem approximation method.The finally sequential optimized model was obtained.The research results show that compared with the original rear mould board,the rear mould board optimized by sequential optimization design method has better stiffness and strength,and the volume is diminished obviously.

Abstract:To solve the problems in multi-tech system product design such as the low efficiency and frequent reworking as well as iteractive processes,the two-layer design structure matrix(DSM) method was presented.Plastic injection molding machine system design was taken as an example,and the design information was described into two levels to illustrate the optimization principle and assessing criteria.Additionally,the key mission was picked up and the relationship between two layers was built,then accomplishing the transform from complex relationship within coupling missions to simple processing communication.The result demonstrates that the optimization about process planing works with less reworking,simple coupling and clear process.

Abstract:To illuminate the necessity of model evolvement and rouse,dynamics of injection molding machine' s product models are analyzed.The performance knowledge is used to support the model evolvement and reuse.The driven factors of mechanical product model are concluded.The dynamic characteristics of product model are described.The.performance knowledge is used to improve specific evolvement process. The upper-layer passing rules are adopted in the mechanical product comfiguration design.The rules of product model evolvement are investigated.And the model evolvement of injection molding machine has three levels.Practical and effective realization arithmetic is given to roalize the performance knowledge reuse.Finally,HT1800X1N series injection molding machines are taken as examples to illuminate that the arithmetic is correct and practical.

Abstract:The parametric model and the parametric drive mechanism of the mould board were established.The data share mechanism and calling mechanism between CAD and CAE programs were also discussed and implemented.An integrated design software-HTFXS1.0,based on the UG and ANSYS,was developed in the environment of VC++.Finally the module of parameterized CAD and the CAE programs were integrated,which was appiled to real mould board of HTF530 injection machine.

Abstract:Core-pulling mechanism plays a vital role in producing plastic products with complex shapes. However, the design of core-pulling mechanism is still excessively depended on experience. As a result, low intelligent input often leads to high costs and long lead-time. In this paper, we propose a similarity-based approach for the variant design of core-pulling mechanism in injection mold design. An assemble model supporting variant design is established as the foundation of the case repository of core-pulling mechanism. A hierarchical assessment algorithm, which calculate the synthetic similarity of four characteristic parameters, viz., core-pulling type, core-pulling force, core-pulling distance, and shape description, is proposed to evaluate the similarity among undercut features. On the basis of the retrieved case with the highest similarity to the undercut feature of new plastic product, geometric model modification is performed by fine-tuning and head feature generation algorithm, and assemble tree modification is finished by the structural descriptions for assemble frame and assemble information of parts. Finally, case study is provided to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:To reduce the repeated work during the configuration design of injection molding machine and to improve the configuration design efficiency of the product which is complex, single-designed and individual, the method of configuration design based on instances is adopted to realize the design BOM of non-standard machine. By analyzing the configuration design characteristics of injection molding machine, the available special functions are categorized and organized. The special functions are decided by the clients. The method is realized in “HTMC Product Configuration Management System” in Ningbo Haitian Ltd. And the system is integrated into the Kingdee K3 ERP software to share the information. The design BOM of non-standard machine is composed of the BOM of standard machine and the difference BOM of special functions. Propositional projects will be given to avoid wrong design when the special functions selected by clients are interferential. The information of non-standard machine which accords with the demands and has been designed already is displayed real time. It is demonstrated to show that such method is effective to avoid wrong design, repeat work and data redundancy.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems

Abstract:This paper presents research that establishes a systematic methodology and knowledge base for an injection-molding mold design in a concurrent engineering environment. This methodology is, in general, analogous to the methods of design for manufacturing, and is, however, in collaboration with activities of molding product design and mold manufacturing process planning. The practical goal of this research is twofold: to develop a mold-development process that facilitates concurrent engineering-based practice and to develop a knowledge-based design aid for injection-molding mold design that accommodates manufacturability concerns, as well as requirements of products. The research approach includes (i) process modeling and reengineering for concurrent mold design, (ii) identification of functional requirements with a computer-based system, (iii) system framework design, and (iv) system modeling and implementation. The framework supports concurrent engineering based mold design by providing advisory tools that are able to resolve relevant issues at the early stages of mold design. The results of this research will facilitate the rationalization and automation of the mold development process, thus improving the efficiency and quality of, and reducing the cost of, mold development.

Abstract:Abstract: The oblique guide column lateral core extraction mechanism and oblique push rod inner core extraction mechanism have been designed to address molding and demolding issues with plastic parts' inner buckles and side wall holes. The aim is to simplify the mold structure as much as possible while maximizing effectiveness and one-time success rate. Injection molding simulation using Moldflow software and DOE experimental design analysis have been utilized to determine the best pouring system and cooling system. Based on simulation and optimization results, the product mold structure has been designed using UG software with a two-cavity layout and latent point gating. The entire design process is based on Moldflow and UG software, thereby reducing design cycle, simplifying mold trial process and cutting costs. This mold design can be used as a reference for other plastic products with similar structures.

Abstract:Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP) is an international standard designed to provide a complete, unambiguous, computer-readable definition of the physical and functional characteristics of a product throughout its life-cycle. In this paper, a STEP-based product modeling system for concurrent stamped part and die development is presented. First, an architecture of this system is established using a three-layer architecture (application, logical and physical layers) recommended by STEP, and a new concept — Die & Product Integrated Information Model (DPIIM) is proposed to fully support the complete product data representation in concurrent stamped part and die design process. Then, six EXPRESS-defined schemas are constructed to represent DPIIM using the Integrated Resources of STEP, which can support the concurrent stamped part and die development with a complete product information representation and a standard data format.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of development period in general mold cavity design and manufacturing process,a feature-based injection mold cavity design and manufacturing system was constructed.By using the interactive feature-library-based recognition method,product features were recognized and the feature model of product was built.The optimization parting direction was determined after all undercut features were distinguished,and the parting line and parting surface were confirmed accordingly.The mold cavity was obtained by splitting mold base in parting surface.A feature extraction algorithm was used to extract the features in mold cavity,and the manufacturing strategy was formulated based on these features.Results show that the system can shorten the development period of mold cavity design and manufacturing,and promote the development process of mold design and manufacturing.

Abstract:A complete design strategy for runner system is proposed. The runner system design knowledge are comprehensively collected. The expert system is used for initial design of runner and gates. C-MOLD and an evaluated object function are used in optimal design of runner system. The form feature database of runner and gate are used to construct runner system feature model. The method has been successfully used in a new generation of injection mold design and manufacturing system.

Abstract:This paper presents a feature-based approach to the automatic generation of an injection mold. In the approach, all the molding features of a molded part are recognized first using a universal hint-based feature recognition algorithm, and the optimal parting direction is determined based on the feature model. Then, all the faces related with the parting line are classified into three groups according to the determined parting direction, and two kinds of parting lines are automatically determined by extracting the largest profile of each face group. Finally, the parting surface is generated based on the optimal pacing line, thereafter the mold core and mold cavity are automatically set up by splitting the mold box of the molded part with the generated parting surface. By using recognized molding features, the approach makes it possible to identify all undercuts, to determine internal parting lines and internal parting surfaces, to generate the mold core and cavity of a complex molded part with undercuts as well.
