Abstract:Teacher professional learning is shaped by multiple contexts in a complex way. Previous studies mainly focused on teacher learning in school-based contexts, and rarely explored how teachers learn across schools and in other situations. Adopting the framework of boundary crossing learning, this study examined the processes of teachers’ professional learning when they participated in Master Teacher Studios in mainland China. Through the qualitative case study approach, this study summarised four learning mechanisms: seeking common ground and reserving differences, growing through formal and informal coordination, exposing the gap and reflecting one’s limits, and transforming practices that incorporate one’s teaching ‘soul’. Further, intrapersonal, interpersonal and institutional factors that contribute to teacher learning as boundary crossing are discussed.

Abstract:Under the background of "double first-class" construction, the teaching staff, as the foundation of the construction of colleges and universities, determines the overall construction effect of colleges and universities.High-level teachers are the guarantee of talent cultivation, education and teaching, scientific research and competitiveness of colleges and universities.However, the improvement of teachers' quality is affected by many factors, which leads to teachers' choices that affect their overall performance when facing teaching and scientific research tasks.In view of this, this study attempts to determine the relationship between professional ability, incentive mechanism and career satisfaction in Chinese universities and colleges, and to propose ways to improve teacher quality.A total of 400 valid questionnaires were collected in this study, and SPSS 26.0 software was used for descriptive analysis, variance analysis and regression analysis.The results show that there is a positive correlation between professional ability, incentive mechanism and teacher satisfaction in Chinese universities.This means that the stronger the professional ability of teachers, the better the incentive mechanism, the higher the satisfaction of teachers, and the corresponding improvement of teacher quality.Through this research, universities may encourage and support the training and professional development of young teachers.This will help balance the age structure of the teaching force and provide more development opportunities for young teachers.As teachers themselves, they may continuously improve their level of professional ability, including teaching and academic ability, and formulate their own career plans in order to adapt to the constant changes in society.Regular teacher training programs should be established to help enhance their professional competence, while salaries and benefits should be improved to better motivate teachers.

Abstract:This study investigated the effects of school-related factors (i.e., transformational leadership) and teacher-related factors (i.e., teachers' growth mindset and self-efficacy) in teachers' sustainable professional development, as indicated by their reported desirable professional attitudes and their adoption of teaching strategies using the method of structural equation modelling. Based on a questionnaire survey of 1297 teachers in China, the results of this study showed that, compared with teachers' growth mindset, transformational leadership had a stronger effect on teacher self-efficacy; transformational leadership, rather than teachers' growth mindset, was significantly and directly related to teachers' professional attitudes towards classroom teaching and their adoption of desirable teaching strategies. Moreover, teacher self-efficacy significantly mediated the effects of transformational leadership and growth mindset on teachers' professional attitudes and the adoption of desirable teaching strategies. These findings highlight the importance of teachers' affective attributes (e.g., growth mindset, self-efficacy, and professional attitudes) in teacher professional development, and provide implications for school leaders and teachers to sustain effective teacher professional development.

Abstract:In this paper, the researcher explored the factors associated with different teaching objectives of American and Chinese high school teachers. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with a group of teachers who have rich experience teaching in American or Chinese high schools to understand (1) their teaching objectives, (2) the educational goals of the school, (3) their teaching styles and (4) why they want to be a teacher. Results concluded three key factors: (1) the effect of the schools educational goals; (2) the importance of students reactions and classroom environment; (3) how personal values and interests influence teachers goals.

Abstract:Teaching expertise is the sum of the personal characteristics of effectively solving education-al and teaching problems.It is formed on the basis of teachers’individual knowledge,professional experi-ence,and reflection on practice and innovative activities based on the reflection.Using ordinary man meth-odology and competency analysis method,first hand data were collected through behavior event interviews and in-depth interviews with 25 primary school mathematics teachers.Based on the interview transcripts, we found the concept of teaching expertise by using grounded theory,and initially formed the explanation for teaching expertise construction.The results show that teaching expertise consists of three dimensions, including the structure of knowledge,teaching ability and professional development agency.

Abstract:Special class secondary school physics teachers represent outstanding secondary school physics teachers in China. This paper analyzes the personal life histories of 13 outstanding secondary school physics teachers. We coded and analyzed the sample materials and summarized the laws of professional development of outstanding secondary school physics teachers. The study shows that cultivating outstanding secondary school physics teachers takes a relatively long time. Their professional development can be divided into five stages: the pre-service learning period, the initial adaptation period, the exploration and skill-developing period, the maturing innovation period, and the excellence and advancement period. Individuals’ own efforts and continuous learning, guidance from master teachers and experts, and support from family and school play an important role in the professional growth of outstanding secondary school physics teachers. Outstanding secondary school physics teachers can apply lifelong learning, do educational research, and develop their own distinctive physics teaching styles.

Abstract:As a result of the paradigm shift in knowledge control,teachers are no longer the absolute authority in classroom settings.They need to change their teaching beliefs and assume new roles to adapt to the change.This paper attempts to investigate whether the change has taken place in reality rather than in rhetoric.Based on the data collected from a large-scale survey conducted among Fudan teachers and students,these questions are specifically explored:Do teachers and students share similar or different perceptions of teaching? How do Fudan teachers define quality teaching? How do students understand them? Any misalignment between them? On the basis of the analysis of the misalignments,the paper concludes with some suggestions on the type of professional development models required by teachers.

Abstract:Teachers' teaching beliefs encompass the underlying perspectives that they hold. These beliefs significantly influence teacher actions in complex ways, thereby impacting the implementation of curriculum reform. However, existing research has revealed inconsistencies between teaching beliefs and actual practices. Employing a case study approach, this study adopts a reflective belief model to address this issue and explore the mechanisms of teaching belief formation within the context of a teacher education program in China. The findings indicate that teaching beliefs can evolve and develop through five dimensions: justification, exemplification, consistency, connection, and practicality. By considering these dimensions within the framework of the reflective belief model, we can better comprehend the inconsistencies between belief and practice. Teacher educators can utilize this understanding to foster the cultivation of reflective teaching beliefs for teachers within training programs.

Abstract:Although relevant policies provide teaching as a profession and teachers as professionals, teachers as a group are not so professional and their living status does not possess the basic features .of a mature professional group. The long dominance of the discourse space of theoretical research by the professionalized mode of speciality is the reason for the above situation. Actually, what the professionalization of teaching pursues is a kind of "speciality" instead of the development, display and publicity of its self features and is the overemphasis on the form of profession instead of careful deliberation and dedicated structure of the content of the profession. At present, the deep-rooted reason for the unsatisfactory situation of the professionlization of teaching lies in teachers' too weak capacity for control over teaching. Therefore, it is of meaningful strategic transfer to lay emphasis on teaching, materialize the possibility of improving teachers' professionalization level in different teaching situations and discover the way out for the professionalization of teaching in the process of redesigning the relations of rights.

Abstract:Research on teachers' beliefs has provided useful insights into understanding processes of teaching. However, no research has explored teachers' beliefs as a system nor have researchers investigated the substance of interactions between teachers' beliefs, practices and context. Therefore, the author adopts complexity theory to explore the features of the teachers' belief system and how interactions between different components of the teachers' belief system contribute to complex features of their beliefs. The author illustrates this application by using a case study example of a language teacher in a Chinese secondary school. The study used the methods of semi-structured interviews, observations and stimulated recall interviews. It revealed the co-existence of different types of beliefs. The interaction of these beliefs determined the relationship between the teacher's beliefs and practice. Moreover, the practices of “token adoption” and eclectic approach were noted as the non-linear features of the teacher's belief system at the time of curriculum reform.
