Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to clarify an important nuance by proposing that people attribute human mind to brands on two distinct dimensions: think and feel. Design/methodology/approach Eight studies were conducted to first develop and validate the 14-item Brand Anthropomorphism Questionnaire, and then to investigate how the two subscales, think or feel dimensions, influence consumer moral judgment of brands. Findings This research developed a 14-item Brand Anthropomorphism Questionnaire with two subscales, which are psychometrically sound and show discriminant validity with regard to existing brand constructs. Furthermore, think or feel brand anthropomorphism dimensions can predict consumers' moral judgment of brands. Research limitations/implications The present research offers preliminary evidence about the value of distinguishing between think brand and feel brand in consumer moral judgment. Further research could investigate other potential impact of the two dimensions, and possible antecedents of think/feel dimensions. Practical implications Managers can use the scale for assessment, planning, decision-making and tracking purposes. In addition, in the event of brand scandal or brand social responsibility activities, public-relations efforts can use the findings to earn or regain the trust of consumers, as this research demonstrates that marketers can shape (tailor) the feel or think dimensions of brand perception to change consumers' moral judgment of the brands. Originality/value This research makes theoretical contribution to the brand anthropomorphism literature by differentiating the two dimensions and exploring the influence of anthropomorphism of consumer moral judgment.

Abstract:This study explores whether the three elements of character image (i.e., symbolic representation, self-image congruence, and emotional value) have a crucial effect on purchase intention. This study adopts a questionnaire survey method and from 225 valid questionnaires collected uses structural equation modeling to analyze the data. The research results reveal that all three elements of character image significantly influenced consumers’ attitude, which in turn affects their purchase intention. Moreover, self-image congruence and emotional value evidently affect impulse buying, whereas symbolic representation does not. The symbolic representation of the classic characters has a stronger influence on brand awareness. The digital characters have vivid expressions effects with their rapid spread over the Internet. Consumers who identify more with the image of cute characters tend to have an increased intention to purchase character merchandise. Related parties are recommended to use the three elements as their design focus and in their marketing strategies.

Abstract:A character plays an important role in game sales on an application store. The first thing people notice when choosing a certain genre of a game on the application store is the character. Character appears in a game visual icon, alongside the name of the game and some stars representing the rating and the number of download. By looking at the game character, people will be able to tell the game genre and type, also the targeted users. Advanced technology might allow a game to develop better but analyzing the game character from its art and design aspect is also needed for it to be successful in the market. This paper will explain character design development and its art and design aspect using constructive method. The analysis can be used for better understanding on how games designers work and come up with the right idea of a game’s characters based on the game’s general idea.

Abstract:Olympic mascots are important marketing tools for the Olympic Games, as they can communicate the meaning of the games. However, there is limited understanding on how to effectively design Olympic mascots as a marketing communication tool. This study focused on understanding how design elements of Olympic mascots influence fans’ perceptions, attitude, and purchase intention. An online experiment, featured in a 2 (design types: anthropomorphic animal, abstract) × 2 (Olympic brand cues: presence, absence) mixed subject design, was conducted. The results showed that animal mascots received significantly higher ratings than abstract mascots in terms of design perception, attitude, and purchase intention. This study demonstrates how the visual design of Olympic mascots influences consumer perception, attitude, and behavior. Our research has bridged this gap by exploring the effects of Olympic mascot design and Olympic symbols as an important marketing communication tool.

Abstract:A virtual character is a design of a fictitious creature with distinctive characteristics created by people, and Disney virtual characters are those Intellectual Property (IP) images that appeared in Disneyland and Disney movies. This investigation aimed to explore why many younger females are keen to spend money on Disney virtual characters. This paper adopted the Marketing Mix Theory strategy (product, price, placement, and promotion) marketing mix theory, and the SWOT analysis method has been utilized. This paper investigated the relationship between the 4Ps and consumers’ purchasing intentions, and it turned out that unique design and effective promotion in this Disney case would promote consumers’ purchase intention, while the higher price and less accessible placements affect their purchase intentions. Thus, the high price and limited places somewhat inhibit customers' desire to buy, due to the attractiveness of the product itself and the promotion on the internet, the target consumers are still willing to consume.

Abstract:Abstract Brand characters are ubiquitous in marketing. Previous studies establish their relevance in advertising. Surprisingly, little research exists on how to build and sustain brand characters. Adopting a case-study approach, this paper explores the brand management strategies of Sanrio's iconic character Hello Kitty, a cat epitomising cuteness and innocence. Findings indicate that eight tactics help to build and sustain the Hello Kitty brand: keep it simple, character licensing, third-party collaboration, capitalising on nostalgia, product-line extensions, brand extensions, sustaining consumer interests, and harnessing technology. The paper also identifies some challenges facing Hello Kitty.

Abstract:Brand anthropomorphism extends and develops the special relationship between consumers and brands by injecting human characteristics, motives, subjective intentions, behaviors and emotions into specific brands. Brand anthropomorphism, as a brand marketing strategy, plays a very important role in brand building and communication. Therefore, the current theoretical circle of brand anthropomorphic marketing is gradually heating up. In this paper, the literature of anthropomorphic brand marketing at home and abroad, the brand personified and anthropomorphic marketing concept, the brand personified the composition of the dimension and measurement, the brand personified as related variables, etc on the existing research results, and on this basis in the field of the future research direction was prospected.

Abstract:This paper discusses how early marketing scholars and practitioners drew upon the insights offered by physiognomy and phrenology. These ancient ways of understanding ‘character’ and personality types were used as tools to encourage practitioners to be more analytic and systematic in their dealings with customers. And these variants of psychological thought, it is argued, provided interesting but racially charged ways of thinking about and reflecting on consumer behaviour. While this literature is not unproblematic, given the racism that can be discerned in the output of certain scholars, those working in the intellectual domain that was known as ‘character analysis’ were quick to enunciate their racial pluralism. Racism, it is suggested, remains an issue that marketing scholars and practitioners still need to confront and critique.

Abstract:Purpose With many years’ economic transformation from “Made in China” to “Created in China,” the State Council has set May 10th as annual “China’s Brand Day” from 2017. This action indicates the implementation of brand strategy and the new national policy of promoting China’s brands. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of marketing background of top management team (TMT) on trademark and brand output. Design/methodology/approach Using the trademark application data of Chinese-listed companies, this paper constructs a multiple linear regression model and uses the OLS method. This research also uses two-stage regression to examine the effect of endogeneity on the results. Findings Our results show that the higher the proportion of executives with marketing background in TMT, the more the number of trademark applications. Furthermore, we document that the positive impact of TMT marketing background on the number of trademark applications is more pronounced in non-state-owned enterprises, companies with more patent output and companies whose CEO has marketing background, indicating that when TMT can play a bigger role, companies have better innovation ability and team collaboration is more efficient, the promoting role of TMT marketing background on the number of corporate trademark applications will be stronger. Originality/value This research focuses on the world’s largest emerging economy – China, which is different from the existing literature that is mainly based on western developed countries. With China’s economy stepping into a new normal and consumption upgrading, it is important and worthy of a deep discussion about which factors affect the company’s trademark and brand management.

Abstract:With the development of China's economy and education, more and more young consumers are gradually becoming the mainstream of social consumption. By applying the Marketing mix theory, this paper explores the impact of four factors - price, product, place, and promotion - on Chanel cosmetics and skin care products in the context of a shift towards younger consumer attitudes. Through quantitative analysis of an online questionnaire survey of 142 Chinese luxury consumers, the 4Ps were found to have a positive and direct impact on young consumers’ purchasing behavior and intentions, with price being the main factor influencing young consumers. The relevant results reflect the consumption and aesthetic characteristics of the younger generation of Chinese luxury consumers, and it can be seen that Chanel can use the personalized product design, product sustainability, and male spokesperson as a starting point to further develop, design, and promote its products to attract more young consumers and expand its market share. At the same time, this paper has some limitations as the data does not cover the entire young population.

Therefore, characters are used as a necessity, and they are highly likely as various marketing means through the development of many types of commercialization. This study aims to develop characters for university promotional materials and products of Baehwa Women's University to enhance the unique image of the school and show the possibility of branding. Baehwa Women's University has 125 years of history and 45 years of university history, and it is expected to be highly utilized as a means to promote the university to high school students through unique design, and to sell it as goods to photo spots in Seochon and Bukchon.

Abstract:This research aims at how the Disney marketing effect has affected marketing strategies in the Asian market. This paper offers an extensive examination of the various patterns that this strategy serves in the market in order to have a deeper grasp of how the strategy works and what are the impacts on them. The study paper also provides a thorough introduction to the development of both the character and Disney's buildings. Both positive and negative perspectives are included in this investigation. The majority of the controversy is directly related to Disneyland's use of hungry marketing strategies. Additionally, comprehensive statistics data is given, which is used to analyze the character and brand's recent development. Abstract:With the global prevalence of fan culture, various industries have permeated to varying degrees of the impact of cultural collisions. This article focuses on brand marketing in the marketing industry, with fan economy as the basic background to study the impact of fan economy on brand marketing in fan culture. The main research methods used in this article are comparative analysis and examples, with social identity theory as the basic theoretical framework. Based on specific marketing cases of fan groups and brands and the advantages and disadvantages of fan economy in fan culture on brand marketing are summarized aiming to analyze the role of fan groups in marketing purchasing behavior and the interaction between fan culture and brand marketing process, providing new ideas for the development of modern marketing industry. This article analyzes and finds that the fan economy, taking fandom culture as an example, plays an important role in brand development and marketing activities. It interacts and influences brand marketing behavior from different dimensions, and through the influence of fan economy background on consumer behavior activities, it is found that the newly developed fan economy under fandom culture is sweeping the global marketing market with a rapid development trend, becoming an indispensable presence in today's marketing environment, subverting traditional marketing models, and providing auxiliary assistance and guidance for its future industry development.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of traditional art expressions in recent Chinese online games, which are now most popular in Chinese game market. Designing the MMORPG game character reflecting users' psychological preferences for aesthetic characteristic of the traditional Chinese culture allows the users to feel more visual satisfaction while they are enjoying a game. The selected characters for this analysis were chosen from the traditional myth chivalry game to utilize the traditional art expressions that are peculiar in Chinese MMORPG. The analysis was conducted within the context of an ideal character figure and operation, and social nature reflecting a personal user. This analysis suggested the representation technique reflecting traditional clothing, color, and life style, and the reconstruction of subject matter, and the development of the characteristics of ideal group character. Even though Chinese MMORPG history is short, this study will help the user understand more effectively the identity of the myth martial MMORPG game in connection with the Chinese traditional culture and art. And this study will also increase the user's satisfaction of the Chinese online-game.

Abstract:Purpose The essence of “Chinese element” has been pinpointed as the representation of national cultural archetype resource of China, which reflects to the overall power enhancement of China. Applying the Chinese national cultural archetype resource, which will be used for promoting the Chinese Brand internationalization, aims for the consumers' approval with the hope of integrating and spreading the unique cultural advantage of Chinese brand. The recognizing of Chinese brand's cultural archetype in this paper has constituted the basis of Chinese brand's cultural archetype strategy. Design/methodology/approach Based on the Grounded Theory, this paper has collected and analyzed the value symbols, character images and theme stories of Chinese narrative advertisements and constructed the cultural archetype framework of Chinese brands. This paper makes a comprehensive application of Charmaz's constructivist analysis and the main axis analysis and inspection method advocated by Strauss, with the aim of building a more objective and systematic theoretical framework for the Chinese brand cultural archetype. Findings In this framework, it revealed: (1) Chinese brand's cultural archetype can be divided into 12 concrete archetypes according to individual's relationship with self, the other, community and nature; (2) Consumers' different ways of self-categorization are attributed as the essential difference among various archetypes. This paper also compared and analyzed the differences between Chinese and Western cultural archetypes from three perspectives, formation of social structure, pedigree of myth and character's feature. Originality/value This paper has certain innovative significance to the theoretical construction of the archetype of Chinese brand culture. First, based on the cultural perspective, this paper applied the cultural psychological connotation of archetype to the brand research across culture, which is more conducive to the researchers' investigation of the cultural psychology of consumers in the cross-cultural context? Second, based on the identification and comparative study of Chinese brand culture archetype, it provides a new expansion and supplement for the research on brand internationalization and globalization in emerging countries.

Abstract:Building on the consumer–brand relationship framework, this research examines global marketers' branding strategies and consumer engagement in social media. Results of a content analysis in Study 1 show that brand personification strategies are prevalently employed on global brands' Facebook pages in both graphic and textual content. Brand personification strategies in textual content are especially effective in inducing consumer engagement (i.e., likes, shares, and comments). A linguistic analysis in Study 2 further suggests that highly engaged consumers exhibit anthropomorphic responses when they interact with brands; they treat brands as humanlike social agents and show positive emotions toward the brands. The synthesized results provide empirical evidence that consumer–brand relationships are realized by brand personification strategies and consumers' anthropomorphism in the social media domain. Theoretical implications and managerial suggestions are discussed.

Abstract:Personality test such as MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) has started to become a viral topic lately that have brought up the trend of personality test worldwide. At the same time, it also has the assignable influence on the aspect of marketing especially in this digital era. This article describes how to evaluate the skyrocketing of the popularity of MBTI test by researching and analyzing the key word for the on Google trend. Also, this article also utilizes the comparing method of each personality to emphasize the importance of this trending in the perspectives of marketing in this digital era. Furthermore, this article illustrates the underlying reasons of this trending impact marketing by referring other theories such as the Barnum Effect. Finally, this article concludes that besides the idea that personality tests such as MBTI can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing by allowing marketers gain better understanding about their targeted customers, they can also utilize this concept by creating the viral and trending topics which open a new market with their derivative products or even the memes that could be prevalent nowadays, especially while those younger generation socializing with each other. The significance of this study is to not only explain this personality test concept, but also to demonstrate how marketers can utilize it so that enable them to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of segmentation. In addition, this article also reveals the idea that how peoples daily life is being affect by the label of different personalities unconsciously.
