Abstract:In this paper, we consider finite flag-transitive affine planes with a solvable automorphism group. Under a mild number-theoretic condition involving the order and dimension of the plane, the translation complement must contain a linear cyclic subgroup that either is transitive or has two equal-sized orbits on the line at infinity. We develop a new approach to the study of such planes by associating them with planar functions and permutation polynomials in the odd order and even order case respectively. In the odd order case, we characterize the Kantor–Suetake family by using Menichetti's classification of generalized twisted fields and Blokhuis, Lavrauw and Ball's classification of rank two commutative semifields. In the even order case, we develop a technique to study permutation polynomials of DO type by quadratic forms and characterize such planes that have dimensions up to four over their kernels.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a new family of refinable functions named pseudo box splines which generalize univariate pseudo-splines to the multivariate setting. The properties of pseudo box splines including stability and regularity are analyzed. Furthermore, we obtain a series of compactly supported C∞ refinable functions by applying nonstationary cascade algorithms to the masks of pseudo box splines. Using these functions, we construct compactly supported nonstationary C∞ tight wavelet frames in L2(Rs) with the spectral frame approximation order.

Abstract:This paper is an exploration of the faithful transitive permutation representations of the orientation-preserving automorphisms groups of highly symmetric toroidal maps and hypermaps. The main theorems of this paper give a list of all possible degrees of these specific groups. This extends prior accomplishments of the authors, wherein their focus was confined to the study of the automorphisms groups of toroidal regular maps and hypermaps. In addition the authors bring out the recently developed {\sc GAP} package {\sc corefreesub} that can be used to find faithful transitive permutation representations of any group. With the aid of this powerful tool, the authors show how Schreier coset graphs of the automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps can be easily constructed.

Abstract:We generalize the construction of affine polar graphs in two different ways to obtain partial difference sets and amorphic association schemes. In the first generalization we replace the quadratic form in the affine polar graph construction by higher degree homogeneous functions that are p-ary weakly regular bent. The second generalization uses a combination of quadratic forms and uniform cyclotomy. The negative Latin square type partial difference sets arising from the second generalization seem to be new.

Abstract:We study some basic properties related to affine functions on Riemannian manifolds. A characterization for a function to be linear affine is given and a counterexample on Poincaré plane is provided, which, in particular, shows that assertions (i) and (ii) claimed by Papa Quiroz in (J Convex Anal 16(1):49–69, 2009, Proposition 3.4) are not true, and that the function involved in assertion (ii) is indeed not quasi-convex. Furthermore, we discuss the convexity properties of the sub-level sets of the function on Riemannian manifolds with constant sectional curvatures.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the discrete bicycle (Darboux, Backlund) transformation of polygons in n-dimensional Euclidean space. This transformation is a discretization of the continuous bicycle transformation, recently studied by Foote, Levi, and Tabachnikov. We prove that the respective monodromy is a Moebius transformation. Working toward establishing complete integrability of the discrete bicycle transformation, we describe the monodromy integrals and prove the Bianchi permutability property. We show that the discrete bicycle transformation commutes with the recutting of polygons, a discrete dynamical system, previously studied by V. Adler. We show that a certain center associated with a polygon and discovered by Adler, is preserved under the discrete bicycle transformation. As a case study, we give a complete description of the dynamics of the discrete bicycle transformation on plane quadrilaterals.

Abstract:We present a general framework to construct recurrent fractal interpolation surfaces (RFISs) on triangular domains. Then we introduce affine RFISs, which are easy to be generated while there are no restrictions on interpolation points and vertical scaling factors. We also obtain the box dimension of affine RFISs under certain constraints.

Abstract:This paper is a continuation of the paper [5] dealing with dynamics of dianalytic transformations of nonorientable Klein surfaces. We are examining mainly the transformations of the real projective plane $P^{2}, $ whose orientable double cover is the Riemann sphere $\overline{C}$ . It is shown that the automorphisms of $P^{2}$ are projections of the rotations of \ $\overline{C}$ and some of the other dianalytic transformations of $P^{2}$ are projections of Blaschke products.

A family of maps and a vector field on plane polygons

Abstract:We study, theoretically and experimentally, a 1-parameter family of transformations and their limiting vector field on the space of plane polygons. These transformations are discrete analogs of completely integrable transformation on closed plane curves, known as the bicycle correspondence, that is a geometric realization of the Bäcklund transformation of the planar filament equation. For odd-gons, we construct a symplectic form on the quotient space by parallel translations and show that the transformations are symplectic, and the vector field is Hamiltonian. In the case of triangles, we prove complete integrability of the respective vector field and provide evidence for the conjecture that the transformations are integrable as well.

Abstract:In this paper we establish affinizations and R-matrices in the language of pro-objects, and as an application, we construct reflection functors over the localizations of quiver Hecke algebras of arbitrary finite types. This reflection functor categorifies the braid group action on the half of a quantum group and the Saito reflection.

Abstract:We extend the notion of triangle to "imaginary triangles" with complex valued sides and angles, and parametrize families of such triangles by plane algebraic curves. We study in detail families of triangles with two commensurable angles, and apply the theory of plane Cremona transformations to find "Pythagorean theorems" for them, which are interpreted as the implicit equations of their parametrizing curves.

Abstract:Let F be an analytic transformation of Cn, with the origin O as a quasi-parabolic fixed point. We will associate an invariant, order ν(F), to F and study the local dynamics of F when it has a non-degenerate characteristic direction [v] and is dynamically separating in the direction [v]. We show that for such F there exist at least ν(F)−1 parabolic curves tangent to [v] at the origin. We also study a non-dynamically-separating example in details.

Abstract:The aim of the current paper is to introduce a new class of contractive mappings, which are contracting (a feature of) triangles. We prove that maps contracting triangles are continuous and give the fixed point result for such mappings. We emphasize that our main theorem encompasses many functions, with significant applicability, for which the result holds, thereby representing a notable advancement in this research domain.

Abstract:Let C be a smooth curve in P2 given by an equation F=0 of degree d. In this paper we consider elementary transformations of linear pfaffian representations of C. Elementary transformations can be interpreted as actions on a rank 2 vector bundle on C with canonical determinant and no sections, which corresponds to the cokernel of a pfaffian representation. Every two pfaffian representations of C can be bridged by a finite sequence of elementary transformations. Pfaffian representations and elementary transformations are constructed explicitly. For a smooth quartic, applications to Aronhold bundles and theta characteristics are given.

Affine map equivalence versus critical set equivalence for quadratic maps of the plane

Abstract:In recent work [Nien et al. 2016], the authors enumerated a classification of quadratic maps of the plane according to their critical sets and images. It is straightforward to show that quadratic maps which are affinely map equivalent are also equivalent in the critical set classification. The question remained whether maps that are equivalent in the critical set classification are also affinely map equivalent. This paper establishes a complete enumeration of the affine map equivalence classes. As a consequence, the relationship between affine map equivalence and critical set equivalence is established. In short, there are eighteen affine map equivalence classes. Three pairs of those classes have critical sets and images that match, but each pair has some other geometric property, preserved by affine map equivalence, that does not match. The other twelve affine map equivalence classes and the critical set equivalences are in one-to-one correspondence.

Abstract:We consider the Ptolemaic characteristic of quadruples of disjoint nonempty compact subsets (generalized tetrads). The main theorem of this article asserts that an arbitrary multivalued mapping from onto itself such that the images of distinct points are disjoint and each of them contains at most two distinct points is the inverse of a -quasimeromorphic mapping if and only if admits a controllable upper bound for the distortion of the Ptolemaic characteristic of tetrads.

In this paper, we continue the work related to the class of quasi-convex mappings of type which have a -parametric representation on , where the mappings are k -fold symmetric, We give the improved Fekete-Szegö inequalities for the class and establish the sharp bounds of all terms of homogeneous polynomial expansions for some subclasses of . Our main results are closely related to the Bieberbach conjecture in higher dimensions.

Abstract:In this Letter, it is proved that by using Darboux transformation, from a known solution of the sinh-Laplace equation (resp. sine-Laplace equation), new solutions of sine-Laplace equation (resp. sinh-Laplace equation) are obtained explicitly. The corresponding geometrical configuration is the space-like pseudo-spherical line congruence with two focal surfaces of negative constant curvature being space-like and time-like, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, we define the notion of affine curvatures on a discrete planar curve. By the moving frame method, they are in fact the discrete Maurer–Cartan invariants. It shows that two curves with the same curvature sequences are affinely equivalent. Conditions for the curves with some obvious geometric properties are obtained and examples with constant curvatures are considered. On the other hand, by using the affine invariants and optimization methods, it becomes possible to collect the IFSs of some self-affine fractals with desired geometrical or topological properties inside a fixed area. In order to estimate their Hausdorff dimensions, GPUs can be used to accelerate parallel computing tasks. Furthermore, the method could be used to a much broader class.

Abstract:A generalized semitoric system F:=(J,H): M --> R^2 on a symplectic 4-manifold is an integrable system whose essential properties are that F is a proper map, its set of regular values is connected, J generates an S^1-action and is not necessarily proper. These systems can exhibit focus-focus singularities, which correspond to fibers of F which are topologically multipinched tori. The image F(M) is a singular affine manifold which contains a distinguished set of isolated points in its interior: the focus-focus values {(x_i,y_i)} of F. By performing a vertical cutting procedure along the lines {x:=x_i}, we construct a homeomorphism f : F(M) --> f(F(M)), which restricts to an affine diffeomorphism away from these vertical lines, and generalizes a construction of Vu Ngoc. The set \Delta:=f(F(M)) in R^2 is a symplectic invariant of (M,\omega,F), which encodes the affine structure of F. Moreover, \Delta may be described as a countable union of planar regions of four distinct types, where each type is defined as the region bounded between the graphs of two functions with various properties (piecewise linear, continuous, convex, etc). If F is a toric system, \Delta is a convex polygon (as proven by Atiyah and Guillemin-Sternberg) and f is the identity.
