Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of experimental hyperglycemia on pathological pain response in rats treated with strepto- zotocin(STZ)or saline. Methods:Hyperglycemia rat models were built with abdominal injection of STZ,and the control group rats were treated with saline. We assessed paw withdrawal thermal latencies(PWTL)with radiating heat stimulus and paw withdrawal mechanical threshold(PWMT)with von-Frey stimulus, and measured the blood glucose levels. The bee venom was injected into the left hind paw of rats, then the variation of spontaneous pain,PWTL and PWMT were assessed. Results:Compared with saline group, the number of flinching reflex increased significantly in STZ group(P0.05).As to pathological pain response,PWTL and PWMT decreased signifi- cantly(P0.05)compared with baseline in STZ group.Compared with the saline group,PWMT of STZ group also decreased significantly (P0.05).But there was no significant difference about PWTL between STZ group and saline group. Conclusions:Peripheral tissue in- flammation induced by subcutaneous inject bee venom in experimental hyperglycemia rats can elicit persistent spontaneous flinch reac- tion and thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical hyperalgesia.
