Abstract:Variance related premium principle is one of the most important principles not only in practice applications but also in research field of actuarial science.In this paper,the Bayesian models are established under variance related premium principle.The Bayesian estimate and credibility estimate of risk premium are derived.Furthermore,some statistical properties of estimators are discussed.In the models with multitude contract data,the unbiased consistent estimates of the structure parameters are proposed.Finally,the empirical Bayes estimator are proved to be asymptotically optimal.

Abstract:In this work, we propose a new three parameter distribution called the Burr XII inverse Rayleigh model, this model is a generalization of the inverse Rayleigh distribution using the Burr XII family introduced by Cordeiro et al. [The burr XII system of densities: properties, regression model and applications. J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 88 (2018), pp. 432-456]. After studying the statistical characterization of this model, we construct a modified chi-squared goodness-of-fit test based on the Nikulin-Rao-Robson statistic in the presence of two cases: censored and complete data. We describe the theory and the mechanism of the Y n 2 statistic test which can be used in survival and reliability data analysis. We use the maximum likelihood estimators based on initial non grouped data. Then, we conduct numerical simulations to reinforce the results. For showing the applicability of our model in various fields, we illustrate it and the proposed test by applications to two real data sets for complete data case and two other data sets in the presence of right censored.

Abstract:In this paper the estimation of the parameters as well as sur- vival and hazard functions are presented for the two-parameter Pareto distribution by using Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches under upper record values. Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and interval esti- mation are derived for the parameters. Bayes estimators of reliability per- formances are obtained under symmetric (Squared error) and asymmetric (Linex and general entropy (GE)) losses, when two parameters have dis- crete and continuous priors, respectively. Finally, two numerical examples with real data set and simulated data, are presented to illustrate the pro- posed method. An algorithm is introduced to generate records data, then a simulation study is performed and difierent estimates results are compared.

Abstract:In the Bayesian estimation method for the parameters of random distributions, the process of selecting hyperparameters for the prior distributions is one of the important and complex matters that determine the efficiency of the estimation. Therefore, researchers have recently been interested in the expected Bayesian (E-Bayes) estimation as a solution to hyperparameter problems. In this paper, we discuss the Bayes and E-Bayes estimation process based on generalized type-I hybrid censored data from Burr-XII distribution. We used symmetric and asymmetric loss functions, such as squared error, Degroot, quadratic, and linear exponential loss functions. All of these methods were compared using Monte Carlo simulations, using which mean square errors and average of estimators were calculated. Moreover, real data were used as an applied and illustrative example. Finally, some conclusions were drawn in the concluding comments of this paper.

Abstract:We study the problem of estimating multicomponent stress-strength reliability under progressive Type II censoring when stress and strength variables follow unit Burr III distributions with a common shape parameter. Point and interval estimates of this parametric function are derived using both classical and Bayesian approaches. Different approximation methods are used to obtain Bayes estimates. In particular, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimate of the reliability is discussed when the common shape parameter is known. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare proposed methods. Finally, we provide two numerical examples for illustration purposes.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the classical and Bayesian estimation of the multicomponent stress–strength reliability (MSSR) for the Burr XII distribution based on progressively first-failure censored samples. Both stress and strength random variables follow Burr XII distribution with common first shape parameter. The maximum likelihood estimator, asymptotic, boot-p and boot-t confidence interval of MSSR are studied. The Bayes estimator along with the Bayesian credible and highest posterior density credible intervals are derived. The uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of MSSR is discussed. A simulation study is performed to illustrate the proposed censoring and different estimation methods. At the end, two different real data sets are analysed for comparing different censoring schemes and estimation methods.

Abstract:The balanced joint progressive censoring scheme gives guidelines for researchers in reducing the expense and period of the experiment with modified efficiency. In this paper, the stress-strength reliability model are considered and investigated, in which two independent samples are generated from Burr Type XII distributions under balanced joint progressive censoring scheme. In the classical analysis, the maximum likelihood estimate of the reliability parameter is derived, then the relevant confidence interval is provided based on the Fisher matrix. Under the Bayesian framework, the Lindley's technique and hybrid Gibbs within Metropolis-Hastings algorithm are applied to acquire the estimates of the parameters, and the corresponding highest posterior density credible interval of the reliability model is also constructed. The reliability inference is realized by numerical simulation, and the validity of the inference method is analyzed based on the splashing data of silicone oil droplets impact (SSODI) under two surfaces wettability conditions.

Abstract:Measurement error occurs when a covariate influencing a response variable is corrupted by noise. This can lead to misleading inference outcomes, particularly in problems where accurately estimating the relationship between covariates and response variables is crucial, such as causal effect estimation. Existing methods for dealing with measurement error often rely on strong assumptions such as knowledge of the error distribution or its variance and availability of replicated measurements of the covariates. We propose a Bayesian Nonparametric Learning framework that is robust to mismeasured covariates, does not require the preceding assumptions, and can incorporate prior beliefs about the error distribution. This approach gives rise to a general framework that is suitable for both Classical and Berkson error models via the appropriate specification of the prior centering measure of a Dirichlet Process (DP). Moreover, it offers flexibility in the choice of loss function depending on the type of regression model. We provide bounds on the generalization error based on the Maximum Mean Discrepancy (MMD) loss which allows for generalization to non-Gaussian distributed errors and nonlinear covariate-response relationships. We showcase the effectiveness of the proposed framework versus prior art in real-world problems containing either Berkson or Classical measurement errors.

Abstract:This paper introduces a new four-parameter additive model, named xgamma-Burr XII distribution, by considering two competing risks: the former has the xgamma distribution and the latter has the Burr XII distribution. A graphical description of the xgamma-Burr XII distribution is presented, including plots of the probability density function, hazard rate and reversed hazard rate functions. The xgamma-Burr XII density has different shapes such as decreasing, unimodal, approximately symmetric and decreasing-unimodal. The main statistical properties of the proposed model are studied. The unknown model parameters, reliability, hazard rate and reversed hazard rate functions are estimated via the maximum likelihood method. The asymptotic confidence intervals of the parameters, reliability function, hazard rate function and reversed hazard rate function are also obtained. A simulation study is carried out to evaluate the performance of the maximum likelihood estimates. In addition, three real data are applied to show the superiority of the xgamma-Burr XII distribution over some known distributions in real-life applications.

Abstract:To overcome the parameter inversion's difficulty from the measurement uncertainty,mathematical model based on Bayesian inference was set up to estimate the coefficients in 2D convection-diffusion equation with source.By Bayes' theorem,the posterior distribution of model parameters was obtained,which is the solution of the inverse problem.While for multi-parameter inversion problem,the posterior distribution obtained by numerical computation is hard to express easily,Markov chain Monte Carlo method is used to explore the posterior distribution to get the estimation.The effect of the observation position on inversion results was investigated and the form of the likelihood function's effect was also studied.It indicates that the Laplacian distribution can lead to a robust estimation.Comparing the estimates under different number of measurement points,it can be concluded that at least two points are needed to ensure reasonable solution for the two parameters estimation problem of 2D steady convection diffusion equation.

Abstract:The unified hybrid censoring is a mixture of generalized Type I and Type II hybrid censoring schemes. This paper presents the statistical inference and prediction of the Burr Type XII distribution for unified hybrid-censored data. The maximum likelihood estimators for estimating the unknown parameters are developed using the expectation-maximization algorithm. The Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameters under the assumption of independent gamma priors are obtained using two approximations, namely Lindley's approximation and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique. Also, MCMC samples are used to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals as well. Simulation experiments are performed to compare the different proposed methods. The prediction of the future observations based on a unified hybrid-censored sample is also provided. A real dataset representing the droplet splashing reported in 90° spray angle is used to illustrate the derived results. Furthermore, a useful interval say tracking interval is introduced for comparing the distance of the two rival models from the true model.

Abstract:This work focuses on making Bayesian inferences for the two-parameter Birnbaum–Saunders (BS) distribution in the presence of right-censored data. A flexible Gibbs sampler is employed to handle the censored BS data in this Bayesian work that relies on Jeffrey's and Achcar's reference priors. A comprehensive simulation study is conducted to compare estimates under various parameter settings, sample sizes, and levels of censoring. Further comparisons are drawn with real-world examples involving Type-II, progressively Type-II, and randomly right-censored data. The study concludes that the suggested Gibbs sampler enhances the accuracy of Bayesian inferences, and both the amount of censoring and the sample size are identified as influential factors in such analyses.

Abstract:Industrial systems often have redundant structures for improving reliability and avoiding sudden failures, and a parallel system is one of the special redundant systems. In this paper, we consider the problem of reliability estimation for a parallel system when one stress variable is involved, which is called the multicomponent stress-strength model. The parallel system contains two components, and their joint lifetime follows a Marshall–Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution, while the stress variable is assumed to be the Weibull distribution. Due to the complicated form of the likelihood function, a data augmentation method is proposed, and then the Gibbs sampling algorithm is constructed to obtain the Bayesian estimation of the system reliability. The proposed method is evaluated by a simulated dataset and Monte Carlo simulation study. The simulation results show that the proposed method performs well in terms of relative bias, mean squared error and frequentist coverage probability.

Abstract:This article deals with classical and Bayesian estimation of the parameters of a 1-out-of-k load-sharing parallel system model in which each component's lifetime follows modified Burr-III distribution. In the classical set up, the maximum likelihood estimates of the load-share parameters, system reliability and hazard rate functions with their bias, standard errors (SEs), average absolute bias (AABias) and width of the confidence interval along with coverage probability are obtained. Besides, two bootstrap confidence intervals for the parameters of the model are also obtained. Further, by assuming both gamma and non-informative priors for the unknown parameters, Bayes estimates of the parameters, system reliability and hazard rate functions with their bias, SEs, AABias and width of the Bayes credible interval along with coverage probability (<span class="InlineEquation">\(C_{p}\)</span>) are obtained. We have performed a simulation study in order to compare the proposed Bayes estimators with the maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, we analyze one real data set to illustrate the results derived.

Abstract:This paper considers modeling bounded multivariate time series of counts and the inferential procedures of this model. For modeling, we introduce a hybrid type model similar to the scheme of integer-valued autoregressive (INAR) and conditional autoregressive heteroscedastic (INARCH) models. To estimate the model parameters, we use the conditional least squares estimator (CLSE) and minimum density power divergence estimator (MDPDE). To evaluate the small sample performances of the proposed estimators, we conduct a Monte Carlo simulation study and demonstrate that the proposed methods work well. Real data analysis is also carried out using syphilis data in the U.S. for illustration.

Empirical Bayes When Estimation Precision Predicts Parameters

Abstract:Empirical Bayes methods usually maintain a prior independence assumption: The unknown parameters of interest are independent from the known standard errors of the estimates. This assumption is often theoretically questionable and empirically rejected. This paper instead models the conditional distribution of the parameter given the standard errors as a flexibly parametrized family of distributions, leading to a family of methods that we call CLOSE. This paper establishes that (i) CLOSE is rate-optimal for squared error Bayes regret, (ii) squared error regret control is sufficient for an important class of economic decision problems, and (iii) CLOSE is worst-case robust when our assumption on the conditional distribution is misspecified. Empirically, using CLOSE leads to sizable gains for selecting high-mobility Census tracts. Census tracts selected by CLOSE are substantially more mobile on average than those selected by the standard shrinkage method.

Abstract:In this paper, problems of estimation and prediction for record values are discussed for a two-parameter unit generalized Rayleigh distribution. Maximum likelihood estimators of model parameters along with their existence and uniqueness are established, and corresponding approximate confidence intervals are constructed based on asymptotic theory. In addition, alternative generalized inferential approach is provided for comparison based on the proposed pivotal quantities. Further, prediction intervals of remaining useful life are also presented under classical and generalized inferential methods when the unit generalized Rayleigh record values are available. Extensive numerical studies and two real-life examples are conducted to show the performance of the proposed methods. The results indicate that both classical and generalized estimation methods work satisfactorily and the proposed generalized inferential approach performs superior to traditional estimates in general.
