Abstract:A new computer simulation method considering diffuse reflection on room surfaces-hybrid method of image source model and diffuse surface integration is present. This method handled the complicated diffuse reflection phenomenon with Energy Conversation Law, thus the diffuse sound field can be calculated more precisely and easily. An agreement between the computer simulation results and measurements shows the accuracy of the mathematical and physical model and the applicability of the computer simulation methods. This model can be used to noise control engineering, as well as to the practice of acoustical design.

Abstract:In this paper,the formulae are indicated firstly to design artificial reverberat or.After analyzing the properties of two reverberators,a connection in series al l-pass reverberation system has been addressed in detail.This system is designe d based on the artificial reverberation formulae,as well as the operation comple xity.The simulation of echo density,which is the crucial reverberation factor,is analyzed.At last,the principles to design the system parameters and the solutio n to reckon the reverberation time are proposed.Experimental results confirmed t hat not only coloration and flutter had been eliminated completely but also the echo density is consistent to the room acoustics,and the natural reverberation e ffect could be simulated vividly.

Abstract:A method with two harmonic functions is proposed for solving transversely isotropic axisymmetric problems by applying the theorems of Refs. [1] and [5]. A series of simple formulas of the boundary least square collocation method is derived. Two engineering examples show that the present method is much more convenient than Lekhniskii's with biharmonic functions. Some useful conclusions are finally obtained.

Abstract:The reverberation-ray matrix method is suitable for solving complex boundary value problems represented by linear partial differential equations with respect to spatial and temporal variables.However,the formulation is so far confined to the case of external concentrated loads applied at the junctions only.In order to develop the method further,a non-uniform Timoshenko beam subjected to arbitrary distributive loads was considered and the piece-wise uniform model was employed.The formulation within the framework of reverberation-ray matrix analysis was established based on the general solution of inhomogeneous governing equations obtained by Fourier transform.Numerical results were given and good convergence of the dynamic responses was observed by the increasing number of piece-wise sub-beams.The steady state responses and the early time transient responses were also calculated and compared with other predictions,and good agreement was observed.

Abstract:The unidirectional wave motions of many physical systems may all be represented by a set of state equations describing the dynamic state of certain physical variables in acoustics, mechanics, optics, and geophysics, varying in time and in one-spatial coordinate. Through the application of Fourier transforms in time variable, the state equations are reduced to a linear system of differential equations with variable coefficients, which may be analyzed by the traditional method of transfer matrix (the propagator of state variables) or the recently developed method of reverberation-ray matrix. The mathematical formulations of both matrices and applications to seemingly two unrelated physical systems, the propagation of axial and flexural waves in a multi-branched framed structure, and that of seismic waves in a layered medium, are reviewed in this article. By detailed comparisons with the method of transfer matrix and others, we conclude that the reverberation-ray analysis is a viable alternative to the solutions of initial value and two-point boundary value problems of unidirectional wave motions.
Free Vibration of Timoshenko Beams on Elastic Foundation with Horizontal Frictions

Abstract:In this paper an alternative method, the reverberation-ray matrix method (MRRM), is employed for free vibration of Timoshenko beams resting on a general elastic foundation with horizontal frictions. The complementary dynamic solutions for a uniform foundation beam are derived based on the governing equations, and the formulations of the MRRM are obtained by the boundary conditions and compatibility of displacements. For an arbitrary beam resting on a nonuniform foundation, the piece-wise model is adopted and the coupling conditions at each middle joint are considered in reconstructing formulations of the MRRM. The characteristic equation is finally obtained and numerical examples are conducted. The results prove that the present method is accurate and versatile. It is also concluded that the horizontal friction constant has obvious effects on both of the fundamental and relatively higher order frequencies of beams resting on a general foundation.

Abstract:A recursive formulation is proposed for the method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) to exactly analyze the free vibration of a multi-span continuous rectangular Kirchhoff plate, which has two opposite simply-supported edges. In contrast to the traditional MRRM, numerical stability is achieved by using the present new formulation for high-order frequencies or/and for plates with large span-to-width ratios. The heavy computational cost of storage and memory are also cut down. An improved recursive formulation is further proposed by modifying the iterative formula to reduce the matrix inversion operations. Numerical examples are finally given to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed recursive formulae.

Abstract:The method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) are modified and extended to the analysis of wave propagation in multilayered acoustic wave devices based on three-dimensional linear piezoelectricity. By the plane wave solution assumption, state equations are established whose solutions are expressed with unknown wave amplitudes. Within the framework of MRRM, the phase and scattering relations are properly set up to determine the unknowns without involving exponentially growing functions and matrix inversion operations in an easy and uniform way. Thus the present MRRM is unconditionally stable and free from limitations to the frequency, the thickness of individual layers and the total number of layers. The surface waves, the interface waves and the bulk waves are all included in the formulation. Therefore, the present formulation applies to SAW devices as well as BAW devices. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the well performance of the proposed formulation of MRRM for the analysis of free waves in multilayered acoustic wave devices.

Abstract:The formulation of reverberation-ray matrix analysis has been proposed to study wave propagation in planar frames. It is applied here to modal analysis of complex three-dimensional framed structures, optionally with lumped masses and/or elastic supports. Furthermore, by means of Betti's reciprocity theorem, orthogonal conditions are established for different natural modes, and hence transient response analysis based on mode superposition is developed. Both the reverberation-ray matrix analysis for free vibration and the mode superposition method for transient response are illustrated by numerical examples.

Abstract:The method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) is modified for the dynamic response analysis of beam structures with rigid components. The wave expressions for the beam structures are derived based on the Timoshenko beam theory, and the MRRM formulations are obtained through the compatibility conditions of displacements and joint coupling equations by considering the effects of rigid components. An application of this method is considered in the context of a phononic crystal with spring-mass-like resonators. The proposed resonant unit consists of a large mass-like central component connected to thin beams that serve as springs. The large central component can be approximated as a rigid body. Using the MRRM and the finite element method (FEM), the band diagrams and the transmission spectrums are calculated. The innovative cell offers the advantage of producing lower and wider bandgaps when compared to traditional lattice structures. The accuracy of the MRRM is verified with the FEM. The current research provides a vibration analysis approach for beam structures with rigid components and the analysis of phononic crystals serves as a reference for structural design.

Abstract:A reformulation of the Thomson-Haskell method is presented for calculating the reflection coefficients of multilayer structure immersing in the coupling fluid. Instead of directly multiplying the layer propagator matrix, the new method splits the layer propagator matrix and excursively determines the interface stiffness matrix starting from the bottom half-space with known stiffness. A formulation for the reflection coefficients is derived based on the obtained interface stiffness matrix of the top layer. This scheme can be applied to a single solid layers or layered structures containing both fluid and solid layers. It keeps the simplicity but naturally excludes the exponential growth term and thus can be applied at any frequency range. Its validity and feasibility were experimentally proved by the measurement of the reflection coefficients of a three layered structure of aluminum-glass-aluminum and a sandwiched layer structure of two 250 mu m stainless plates filled with 100 mu m deionized water based on the inversion of V(z, t) technique. The result of experiments is consistent with the theoretical calculation. The reformulation of the Thomson-Haskell method offers an efficient and effective solution for calculating the acoustic reflection coefficients of multilayer structures of any configurations. Abstract:With the development of SAW or BAW devices operating in the range of GHz, most available methods become inappropriate, either due to numerical instability or low efficiency. The method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM), which was proposed just recently for layered media, is extended here to study wave propagation in arbitrarily anisotropic piezoelectric laminates. Extensions include the establishment of a unified mathematical basis and the construction of numerically stable formulations. Numerical results are first obtained for wave propagation in laminated anisotropic plates and good agreement is obtained with existing study. Then the effect of material inhomogeneity on the behavior of an FGM-TFBAR is studied.

Abstract:Based on one-dimensional theory of elastodynamics, the vibration and wave propagation in members of a framed structure are analyzed by the recently developed method of reverberation-ray matrix. Unidirectional traveling wave solutions for axial, torsional, and two flexural waves in six modes that are reverberated in structural members through repeated reflection and multiple scattering by joints of the structure are expressed in matrix form with two sets of unknown amplitude coefficients. From joint coupling equations and from compatibility conditions of displacements in dual coordinates of each member, the two sets of unknowns are determined in terms of a reverberation-ray matrix for given source excitations at joints. Free and forced wave motion in steady-state response can all be evaluated from the matrix solutions, and transient response is determined in one more step of Fourier inverse transform. The method is particularly effective to determine the early time transient response through Neumann series expansion of the inverse transformed solution with a special numerical algorithm.

Abstract:Based on the theory of first-order ordinary differential equations, a dual relation between two solutions in the dual local coordinates for a single layer in the laminate is derived, which is further arranged in a manner that can avoid the numerical instability usually encountered in the state space method. Joint coupling relation can be established by the consideration of equilibrium and compatibility conditions at the interfaces/surfaces or nodes. The two relations correspond to the phase relation and scattering relation in the method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM), as demonstrated by considering the free vibration of orthotropic (or cross-ply) piezoelectric laminates in cylindrical bending. Another contribution of the paper is that the case of repeated eigenvalues of the coefficient matrix of the state equation is discussed, which has never been tackled before. The discussion completes the mathematical formulation of MRRM. The approach is first verified by comparing the results with those obtained from the state space method for laminates with simple supports. Calculations are then performed to show the dominating modes at some given frequencies and particular discussions are presented.

Abstract:The simulation method of interface reverberation for moving sonar is presented,which uses the nonuniform distribution of scatters in space and the direct superposition of the scatters' echoes.Many factors which will influence the reverberation are considered in the simulation,such as the parameters of transmission signal,the motion of the sonar,the ocean environment,etc.The simulated signal's distribution of probability density and spatial correlative coefficient are tested,and the validity of the simulation is proved.

Abstract:The acoustic imaging results in the diffuse field are seriously affected by reverberation. The acoustic source localization algorithms based on the free-field assumption will produce many artifacts in the reverberant environment. To achieve accurate acoustic source localization in a reverberant environment, a sound field morphological component analysis (SF-MCA) model and an enhanced alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm are proposed in this article. First, the solution of the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation is analyzed to characterize the acoustic components. Second, Green's function and plane-wave basis function serve as dictionaries for sparse representation of the acoustic signal in the frequency domain, and the corresponding decomposition coefficients are obtained by the enhanced ADMM algorithm. Finally, the accurate acoustic imaging results are realized in the reverberant chamber space with strong reverberation ( T 20 =174.30 ms). Experiments demonstrate the validation of the proposed SF-MCA method. The acoustic imaging obtained by the proposed SF-MAC dereverberation model is far superior to the acoustic imaging that treats the reverberation as the general Gaussian noise.

Abstract:Transient response analysis of structures under seismic load is important in a seismic design.Most earthquake effect studies use time domain numerical integration methods.The method of reverberation ray matrix is a novel frequency domain matrix method for transient analysis of trusses and frames.Based on Bernoulli beam theory,the present work extends the reverberation ray matrix method to the case of ground acceleration loads.The calculation of a piece of steel frame subjected to the ground El Centro acceleration wave demonstrates that the method can be used to analyze the earthquake effect of structure accurately and effectively.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to present the formulation and application of the coupled structural finite element and acoustic boundary element algorithm to analysis the structure subjected to noise-induced vibration from acoustic loads experienced during launch environment. Firstly, the traditional numerical simulation of a reverberant field as a launch acoustic environment was introduced. Secondly, based on the reciprocity theorem used in coupled FE-BE model, as well as the principle of stochastic analysis, the output response power spectrum density of the coupling model subjected to reverberant environment can be calculate by the mathematical formulation deduced. In order to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method, the simulation results based on the reciprocity theorem were compared with the solutions obtained using the traditional method. Good agreement results show that using the reciprocity theorem to analyze reverberant acoustic field environment is feasible and effective.

Abstract:In recent years, a novel method to analyze the response of pin-jointed or rigid jointed trusses under impact load is proposed: the reverberation ray matrix method. This method provides the analytic solution of transient response for trusses with elastic wave method. The present study extends the formula of the reverberation matrix method in the frequency domain to obtain the displacements of nodes of the frame under unit pulse. The vibration mode and associated natural frequency are obtained from the solution of displacement in the frequency domain. This is a new method for calculating natural frequencies and modes of trusses. Simple examples show that the solution is accurate.

Abstract:The method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) is extended and modified for the analysis of free wave propagation in anisotropic layered elastic media. A general, numerically stable formulation is established within the state space framework. The compatibility of physical variables in local dual coordinates gives the phase relation, from which exponentially growing functions are excluded. The interface and boundary conditions lead to the scattering relation, which avoids matrix inversion operation. Numerical examples are given to show the high accuracy of the present MRRM.
