Abstract:Since the appearance in 1970s,the culture-led urban regeneration mode has significantly impacted on different cities all over the world.This strategy turns out to be effective,but with certain imperceptible potential crisis.This paper mainly focuses on the culture-led strategy in ″Canal Paradise″ of Hangzhou.Based on the analysis of its internal mechanism and specific form(producer-oriented and consumer-oriented mode),this paper presents in-depth analysis of the effectiveness of culture-led regeneration strategy,to show rational thinking about the practice of urban regeneration in China.

Abstract:The 21st century can be regarded as an "urban" century. With the rapid development of China's urbanization process, cities have gradually lost their uniqueness because of the tendency to construct cities using similar design principles. In this article, traditional Chinese culture is advocated, (especially Qian Xuesen's Shan-shui City concept), and explained from three aspects: the Natural State, the Picturesque State and the Ideal State. Based on these concepts, the paper advocates the Holistic Design approach and collaboration with other design disciplines. Three city scale projects -Beijing Olympic park, Tiding Fanhe New City and Tangshan Nanhu Eco-city - put this "Shan-shui City" concept into practice.

Abstract:Community design in South Korea has developed into a theory emphasizing practice as keywords such as urban regeneration and resident participation have become important institutionally and politically. The implications derived from the research are as follows: (1) Community design in South Korea began to emerge for integrated regional revitalization through economic, social, and cultural approaches, moving away from existing physical environment improvement projects. (2) Hot topic shows that the concept of community design and the welfare perspective from the view of culture are considered as an crucial part. (3) Related keywords such as brand, company, marketing, shopping mall, region, and change derived from Topics 19 and 21 are community design, as in the case of the successful rebranding of a local business mentioned in the introduction of this research. It can be interpreted that this new business model is being built.
An Evaluation of the Neighborhood Walking Environment Using GIS Method -Focusing on the Case Study of Changwon City-

Abstract:This research tried to suggest a method of DB construction in the field using evaluation variables and Mobile GIS focusing on Changwon City as a leading study to encourage walking and biking in everyday life. First, twenty evaluation variables of WEs(walking environments) were selected through the literature review, and also scored separately. Second, the field survey-DB of each variable was built effectively using Mobile GIS. Finally, WEs were evaluated synthetically based on the obtained data. The results of this research are summarized as follows. While the WE of the zones located in the fringe of Changwon square were generally got a high score as over 42, other zones located in detached or row house area were evaluated relatively highly bad. Findings from this research will help in determining the zone required improvement of WEs or easy access to main destination such as a park, shopping center, school, etc. and also selecting variables of WEs, needed an intensive improvement, in the selected zone after comparing the results of field and questionnaire survey. Furthermore, those will be used as a means of decision making support for planing, designing and maintaining of WEs to promote people's physical activity in their daily lives.

Abstract:Studies in the regional innovation literature have largely focused on the role of economic, structural, demographic, and institutional factors, but very few studies shed light on the role of amenities. This paper investigates this question by examining how amenities shape the geography of innovation in China. The empirical results based on city-level data suggest that both natural and consumer amenities are positively associated with regional innovation. Specifically, amenities related to air quality, sunshine, public transportation, educational resources, and healthcare services matter most. Further, the analysis suggests the influence of amenities on innovation is closely linked to city characteristics such as income, density, and human capital. Therefore, to formulate innovation-driven growth, these results suggest that more attention should be paid to the role of amenities and amenity-related strategies should be tailored to city characteristics.

Abstract:This paper describes the award winning urban design scheme for the Central Area of the New Town of Changping District, Beijing. The design positions the new city center as an RBD (the Recreational Business District) based on its location and surrounding natural and social situations. The design strategies are concentrated on the creation of an ecological and livable city that sustains the function of the RBD. These strategies include: the creation of an raised lake to mitigate the big elevation difference between the development zone and the wetland at beside, and brings water to the city to create a recreational water front; The creation of a green valley and a peninsular RBD core in the center, which connects through the under pass to the waterfront, and creates a sole pedestrian zone, meanwhile it is an adaptive green solution to the summer heat and winter cold wind; The creation of courtyard-like architectural blocks as a reference to the vernacular culture of old Beijing and as an adaptive strategy to the harsh climate in this area; The creation of a greenway network that cuts across the building blocks and connects to the public transportation system, and together to form an overall green transportation system. Using this case study, the author is able to question multiple conventional urban design and development strategies and propose new approaches, including making friends with flood, say no to a water front highway, landscape urbanism, and give a second thought to the setback for wider than necessary greenbelt along the urban streets.

Abstract:Resources are basic requirements for the construction of eco-cities and are important limitations for urban development.When making protective strategies for sustainable utilization of resources in constructing eco-city,the quantity of resources and the conflict between resource conditions and development of urban society and economy should be considered synthetically.Based on the profound connotation of eco-city,the scope on sustainable utilization of resources should be extended.People should focus on natural and biological resources,and also on human resources.We must pay adequate attention to cultures of a city by inheriting and protecting them in constructing eco-city. As a case,Changzhou was studied in relation to sustainable utilization of land,water resource,biological resources,and human resources,and a conceptual planning was established,which provided important guarantee for utilizing resource advantage to obtain its ecological and environmental benefits.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to better identify the information generated by citizens and to explore the regional social phenomenon whereby higher quality urban services focused on understanding regional issues are promoted. Citizens voluntarily and continuously communicate with local government both online and offline. We wanted to determine how civic information can be applied to urban planning. We selected Shiheung City, Republic of Korea, as our study area, as the city is formed of various types of land use: industrial areas, agricultural land, and residential areas. This area is facing developmental pressure with released development-restricted areas, and has been environmentally damaged by industrial complexes. We conducted a semantic network analysis of the top 10% most commonly used nouns in civil complaints to determine the keywords. Each thematic map we created was based on geographical information to explain the temporary, continuous, and chronic issues. The chronic problems were discussed in relation to the regional development process. The process of identifying and analyzing local issues by analyzing information voluntarily provided by citizens plays an important role in government-led urban management planning and policy formation and can contribute to decision making in the development of future urban policies.

Abstract:As urbanization steps into a new stage on which urban concept has been changed,the optimization and transformation of outdoor advertising is imperative.Outdoor advertising will be not only be environmental media,but also humanistic media.The optimization and transformation refers to guiding its practice with an idea of city image,which is humane,aesthetical and modern;it also refers to promoting low-carbon by new technology and replacing pollution and energy-intensive outdoor advertisement carriers by energy-efficient ones;furthermore,it focuses more on outdoor advertisement’s cultural responsibilities through interactions with city culture.While Guangzhou government is promoting the new urbanization,the outdoor advertising design and planning along Guangzhou Pearl River shoreline is a good practice of optimization and transformation.

Abstract:In the process of urbanization,the style conflict between modern residences and traditional residences are serious in a lot of famous historic and cultural cities of China at present. In this paper,the conservation and development of residential characteristic features in Changting is discussed. The current development situation of residential buildings and the influencing factors are analyzed, and it is proposed that the resident's community building committee should be set up,residential housing should be managed based on dividual areas,and integrated development tactics should be carried out to promote style harmonization of modern residences and traditional residences.

Abstract:This article examines cultural policy in the city of Seoul, South Korea. The central case study covers Mayor Oh Se-hoon and his ambitious design-based policy initiatives. Oh sought to ‘upgrade’ Seoul by creating a ‘design city’ and establishing wider international appeal and recognition. His instrumental use of design to achieve this resulted in urban redesign and redevelopment, as well as the introduction of a short-lived annual cultural event, the Seoul Design Olympiad (later the Seoul Design Fair). This article argues that Oh’s policies failed to achieve their desired effect due to miscommunication, political instability and a consistent neglect of the pressing cultural demands of tourists and citizens. Oh’s successor as Mayor of Seoul, Park Wonsoon, has discarded Oh’s design plans and instead aims to use cultural policy to enact tangible change for local citizens. The case of Seoul therefore reveals the possibilities and pitfalls of globally ambitious design-based cultural policy.

Abstract:This paper is a study on city brand development which is increasingly interested as a means to enhance the attractiveness of the city. the previous research, the design of city brand identity was an application from the internal stakeholder's point of view related to the metropolitan government. However, in the present study, we tried to take a external approach that perceptions and designs city brands from the related to the consumer. For the purpose of research, based on previous studies, we extracted three images of leading, stable and amusing city brand images and prepared three scenarios for the imaginary city as experimental stimuli. The results showed that the overall city brand attitude, residence intention, and tourism intention to the imaginary city were significantly different according to the leading, stability and amusement brand image. According to the results of this study, it is necessary to continuously effort the development of city brand image which is perceived by consumers in order to differentiate city.

Abstract:With the process of modernization and industrialization, cities are increasingly becoming homogenous. The place value and vitality of cities are seriously lacking with a declining trend. Therefore, in recent years, China has proposed the core concept of human-oriented urban construction and development. However, the multi-scale characteristics of urban morphology are difficult to be understood and reconstructed through traditional top-down design processes due to limited individual perception and cognitive abilities. Today, digital technology has changed this situation, which provides both direct and indirect means to gain a deeper understanding of the city. Therefore, to achieve a greater depth with more precise sense of scale, and represent regional personality and cultural diversity, this article proposed a concept of experimental mastery of full-chain space of multi-scales in the city, which is promising to coordinate the global and local, groups and individuals. This research can: help overcome the various drawbacks during the development of traditional urban design; change the urban order and development model that is believed to be "one change fits all" under the influence of modern urban design paradigm and ideal utopia; improve the personalization and accuracy of public participation through digital presentation; promote human-oriented and sustainable urban design, as well as the growing needs of the people for a better life.

Abstract:When Hebei Province carry on the movement of "great change in three years", The entire province tries to renovate the cities appearance and promote the cities image. This design completes the elevation transformation and landscape design of Xueyuanbei street between Zhonghua street and Nanhuan street in Handan, which is 2 kilometer. The block including public buildings, residence houses, a workshop and street corner gardens. We offer some constructive comments in some questions which exists in the present situation, for example: The roof modelling, the color of building, the standard advertisement position, the plane air conditioning. Through already has the construction outward appearance transformation and the landscape design to the Handan Institute north road promotes the urban construction level and architecture art, improves the environment, causes this block to become one of Handan modernization urban development representative blocks.

Smart cities have emerged as a solution, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and promote sustainability. Environmental art plays a crucial role in this context, transcending traditional boundaries between art, technology, and nature. This article explores the impact of environmental art on smart city development, drawing on case studies from Singapore and China. It examines how environmental art enhances urban aesthetics, improves resident well-being, and revitalizes public spaces. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and suggests future directions for research in leveraging environmental art for sustainable urban development in smart cities.
