Abstract:In the context of global communication and individual development, English has evolved into a universal lingua franca, playing a crucial role across various fields worldwide. Proficiency in spoken English is indispensable for the academic journey of Chinese college students. However, the current status of Chinese college students' spoken English proficiency reveals that there are still some aspects that need improvement. The communicative approach, recognized as an advanced language teaching methodology, proves to be instrumental in enhancing students' oral proficiency in English. This paper adopts the communicative approach perspective, employing a case study focused on a specific section of a Chinese students' English textbook. The study delves into the teaching path of "create-experience-practice-achieve". Building upon this teaching framework, a concrete teaching plan is designed, followed by an analysis and reflections, aiming to provide reflective insights as a practical reference for college-level oral English instruction. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the enhancement of college students' oral English proficiency.

Abstract:As is known to all, with the further development of economic globalization, foreign language teaching plays an increasingly important role in China's education.In recent years, as a result of China's new curriculum reform, researchers continue to explore the comprehensive learning methods, many new teaching methods with the times came into being.This paper mainly wants to discuss whether Task-based Approach really has practically helped for English writing, whether it can mobilize students' enthusiasm for writing, whether it pays attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality, and how to carry out Task-based Approach better and more smoothly in middle schools.In order to better ensure the authenticity of this paper, the author of the paper will use questionnaire survey and experimental methods to demonstrate.Through the research, the author of the paper understands that Task-Based Approach is developed on the basis of communicative teaching method, and its practical application in English classroom provides a good example for us.However, in the past, China's English teaching did not pay attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive ability, but only paid attention to a certain aspect of English learning, and paid less attention to writing. Students are afraid to write English compositions, lack of practical writing materials, unable to mobilize the knowledge learned, write out vividly.After the study of Task-based Approach, students can improve their writing ability and stimulate their interest in writing to some extent.After this study, the author of the paper hopes to give some ideas and inspiration to teachers who want to use Task-based Approach in writing teaching in the future. At the same time, in view of the shortcomings in the research, it is hoped that teachers can continue to reflect and summarize, and continue to conduct in-depth research.

Abstract:This paper,based on the results of an extensive study regarding the teaching of English for non-English major graduate students in China, raises some issues calling for attention and identifies some areas for research and reform.Efforts should be made in:(1)reforming the traditional knowledge- oriented teaching approach and stressing the development of the students'ability in language use; (2)advocating learner-centeredness and experiential learning and encouraging learner autonomy;(3) taking full advantage of the modern facilities for teaching and tapping the learner potential;(4) emphasizing quality education and improving the students'ability in logical thinking;(5)improving the quality of the teaching staff;and(6)properly handling the relationship between teaching and testing and introducing a scientific evaluation system.

Abstract:The traditional teaching approach has long been concerned with imparting know!edge, and many college teachers still opt for this method in their practice In English class teachers choose to emphasize ma the language points, ignoring that English lan- guage mainly functions as a tool of communication. On the other hand, for students the purpose of learning English is to pass the examination. This traditional approach fails to cultivate students＂ communicative ability in English . Abstract:Speaking is an essential aspect of English learning. It reflects the student’s ability to express and comprehensively use the language. In the 21st century, international exchanges have become increasingly frequent. Therefore, English is more important as a tool of international communication. Despite this, under the long-term pressure of examinations, English teaching in our country only focuses on reading, writing, and other content closely related to testing scores, while oral English teaching is easily neglected. Even in the classrooms where oral English teaching is implemented, the teaching activities and methods are relatively monotonous and out of touch with the actual situation, resulting in students’ low enthusiasm for oral English and unwillingness to speak English. In order to solve this problem, this paper studies an effective oral English teaching method --- Task-Based Language Learning (TBLT). This teaching method abandons the disadvantages of the traditional oral English teaching method and better improves students’ oral English ability. TBLT is a teaching method that gradually emerged and developed in the 1980s. In language teaching, TBLT requires language teaching based on tasks, and students should learn the language while completing the tasks. TBLT allows students to use English to complete various actual tasks related to life, study, and work, making classroom teaching real and task-oriented and cultivating students’ ability to use English in practice.

Communicative Language Teaching and Contextual Teaching and Learning: Challenges and Prospects in Chinese High-School English Education

Abstract:This paper explores two widely employed language teaching methods in second and foreign language education: Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), and analyzes their applicability in Chinese high-school English curriculum. CLT primarily focuses on developing students' "communicative competence", which encompasses linguistic, sociolinguistic, textual, and strategic abilities. CTL, on the other hand, emphasizes connecting academic knowledge to students’ personal, social, and cultural contexts, helping them understand and apply what they learn in real-life situations. While the goals of both CLT and CTL align with the objectives of the Chinese high-school English curriculum, which aims to enhance students' ability to use language effectively in real-life contexts, there are significant challenges in implementing these approaches in practice. Major obstacles include an exam-oriented educational system, teacher-centered classroom models, large class sizes, and insufficient teacher training in both CLT and CTL methods. The paper concludes that although CLT and CTL have the potential to enhance students' language competence, their widespread and effective application in Chinese high-school English classrooms remains limited due to these barriers.

Abstract:The Grammar Translation Method and the Communicative Approach have both played important roles in grammar teaching. Which is better, the Grammar Translation Method or the Communicative Approach? This paper aims to compare the controllability and feasibility of these two approaches and find out which one is more suitable for grammar teaching in Taiwan. Two classes were selected and taught by the Grammar Translation Method and the Communicative Approach respectively. The college admission test showed that they share a similar level of the overall English proficiency before the intervention. The pre-test demonstrated that there wasn’t any distinction between the two classes in their grammatical competence. The post-test embodied that there was significant difference in their grammatical competence between the two classes. The scores of the students in the Experimental Class were higher than that in the Control Class. The result showed that grammar teaching in the framework of the Grammar Translation Method is better than the Communicative Approach. Nevertheless, the Communicative Approach emphasizes fluency and the Grammar Translation Method is concerned with accuracy. Fluency and accuracy are the target for English learning. So the best way to improve the situation is to combine both methods in teaching English Grammar.

Abstract:It is universally acknowledged that a command over spoken and written English is a sinequanon of success, professional or personal. The methods, principles and techniques adopted in schools and colleges in non-native English countries, not to speak of India, have not met the expected success in equipping students with the requisite linguistic skills to express themselves through speaking and writing. So many discussions have taken place among scholarly circles to address the lacunae resulting in the formulation of various methods like the Grammar Translation Method, the Direct Method, The Audio-Lingual Method, the Silent Way, the Bilingual Method, Community Language Learning, Communicative Language Teaching Approach, Structure Approach and Situational Approach. In the luxuriant of these numerous methods, the right approach becomes conspicuous by its absence in other words all these approaches will only help the learner be confused in acquiring English language competence. This rather gloomy picture has made the writer of this paper seek a solution to the problem resulting in his invention of an easy approach on the part of English language teachers in imparting English communication skills.

Abstract:China has been promoting English teaching activities since the 1960s with the goal of cultivating a global perspective and proficiency among the younger generation. Despite decades of teaching, issues such as the inconsistent use of British and American pronunciation and the incorrect use of tenses in Chinese English persist and have not seen improvement. This paper delves into a comprehensive study from the perspective of the differences between English teaching in China and foreign countries, specifically exploring the relationship between Chinese English and educational methods while analyzing the underlying logic and differences in Chinese and Western English teaching methods. Abstract:From the perspective of applied linguistics, taking modern Chinese as an example, this paper analyzes the teaching mode of "pronunciation", "vocabulary" and "grammar". Modern Chinese adopts the systematic and practical mode in the phonetic teaching. The basic units and syllable structure of Chinese pronunciation are introduced in detail through the phonetic symbol system, emphasizing the correlation between speech and semantics, and using phonetic training to help learners correctly understand and express the meaning of vocabulary and sentences. Through a new teaching perspective, it can help learners master the structure and rules of the language, promote the improvement of the practical language application ability, and ensure the high-quality sustainable development of international Chinese education.

Abstract:In China, College English is a required basic course for undergraduate students, and the objective of College English teaching is to improve students’ ability to use English in an all-round way. The author maintains that in order for students to exchange information effectively, they must be first of all equipped with the right tools for communication—vocabulary. The author observes that vocabulary is the biggest obstacle for most college students, who have learned the basic patterns and structures of English in their middle school, but their vocabulary size is very limited. It follows that greater importance should be attached to vocabulary in College English teaching.The author believes that, in the current Chinese EFL teaching context, adopting the Lexical Approach to College English teaching is a practicable and effective way to improve students’ ability in using English. In order to verify this idea, the author conducted an empirical study, which lasted 16 weeks. The findings support the author’s hypotheses that college students do need explicit and systematic instructions on vocabulary learning, and that adopting the Lexical Approach to College English teaching is effective in enhancing students’ lexical knowledge and improving their ability in using English. It is hoped that the study will shed some light on the question of how to teach College English effectively to meet the previously mentioned objective.
Exploring L2 Motivational Self System and Grit as Predictors of L2 Willingness to Communicate: A Comparative Study between English Majors and Non-Majors in Chinese EFL Context

Abstract:This study compares the differences between English majors and non-English majors in L2 motivational self-system, L2 grit and L2 WTC in China English environment, and the results are thought-provoking. English majors show clear goals and strong desires in their ideal second language self. This clear goal orientation urges them to pay more attention to English learning and constantly improve their language ability. At the same time, their learning perseverance is also amazing. No matter how many difficulties they encounter, they can persevere until they make progress. In contrast, non-English majors' learning motivations are diverse, but they often lack systematicness and persistence. They are easily disturbed by external factors in the process of learning, which leads to the interruption of learning progress or poor learning effect. In addition, their willingness to communicate is relatively low, and they lack the opportunity and confidence to use English in real contexts. The results show that motivation, self-system, perseverance and willingness to communicate play a vital role in the process of second language acquisition. For English majors, the positive effects of these factors are particularly obvious. For non-English majors, we also need to pay attention to and cultivate their abilities to help them improve their English better. Therefore, future English teaching should pay more attention to students' individual differences, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, stimulate students' [1]internal motivation, enhance their learning perseverance and willingness to communicate, and thus improve their English level in an all-round way.

Abstract:This article explores the contribution of pragmatics in the cultivation of communicative competence from the perspective of applied linguistics. Firstly, the development and definitions of applied linguistics and pragmatics were reviewed, and the theoretical system and core concepts of pragmatics were elaborated. Furthermore, the role of pragmatics in cultivating communicative competence was analyzed, including the cultivation of pragmatic awareness, learning of pragmatic knowledge, application of pragmatic strategies, enhancement of pragmatic competence, enhancement of language appropriateness, and cultivation of cross-cultural communicative competence. On this basis, the application of pragmatics in teaching practice was explored, such as the principles and methods of pragmatic teaching, the development and selection of pragmatic textbooks, and the design and implementation of pragmatic assessment. Finally, the challenges and coping strategies faced in cultivating communicative competence were analyzed. This article aims to provide theoretical guidance and practical reference for the cultivation of communicative competence in the field of foreign language education in China.
