Abstract:The formaldehyde-free discharging agent T is used to the pigment discharge printing instead of the traditional discharging agents containing formaldehyde.Through discharging test to the acid dyes and reactive dyes,it was found that the discharging agent T has the same white discharging effect with the traditional discharging agents.After testing the K/S value,color fastness,handle and discharging resistance,thickeners and binders is selected optimally.The result demonstrates that discharging agent T has less influence on thickeners and binders than traditional discharging agents,the best thickener is complex thickener(PT-RV∶PFL=1∶1),the best binder is APF101 binder.Through comparison with discharging resistance,normal pigments can be used as color pigments in discharge printing with discharging agent T.

Abstract:The discharge printing performances of the various pastes,adhesives,nm coverers,and other auxiliaries were studied and a compounded paste was developed specially for pigment discharge printing of silk fabrics.The covering of the background shades by pigments was improved with nm coverers,and the color fastness and brilliance were also bettered.The discharge printing products had soft hand-feel,bright colors and sharp patterns,and both soaping and crocking fastnesses were above grade 4.

Abstract:Discharge printing of the real silk fabric was performed with vat dye paste for printing the patterns and vinyl-sulfone reactive dye for the ground. The effect of vat dyes,reducing agents and alkali dosage on printing was analyzed.The color fastness and the strength of the printed silk fabric were tested with the purpose of investigating the possibility of this application.The result indicates that the application of vat dye paste to the discharge printing of real silk fabrics can obtain brilliant shade and good color fastness,but lower the strength of the fabrics.

Abstract:Pyrolysis has the potential of transforming waste into valuable products. Pyrolytic carbon black (PCB) is one of the most important products resulting from the pyrolysis of used tires. One of the most significant applications of modified pyrolytic carbon black is its use as pigment for offset printing ink to obtain high added values.Inverse gas chromatography (IGC) results show that a large quantity of inorganic matters and carbonaceous deposit are removed by treating the pyrolytic carbon black with nitric acid solution. Plenty of active sites originally occupied by inorganic ash and coke are recovered. The surface energy of pyrolytic carbon black (TWPC) modified by titanate-coupling agent-especially the specific interaction γsPs determined by the specific probe molecule, toluene-shows the strong interaction between the TWPC and the synthetic resins. The offset printing ink performance confirms the IGC prediction. And TWPC has the great potential of applications in printing ink industry as pigment.
Novel Digital Carpet Printing Using Acid Ink

Abstract:Because of the extensive amount of waste water that is discharged during its processes, conventional carpet printing is a big polluting industry. In this paper, we propose a new digital carpet printing method based on traditional textile-printing technology. Our method aims to remove limitations in carpet design and eliminate industry pollution. A series of measures are performed to raise the permeability of acid inks. In addition, a new ink control method is employed to compensate for penetrated color inks. This results in carpet production processes that not only take advantage of digital textile printers, but also satisfy the requirements of carpet production.

Abstract:Liquid whitening pigments are being used in the papermaking more and more widely.Their features are capable of being switched quickly and adjusted easily,which are greatly beneficial in reducing the broke of paper,improving the overall efficiency for paper mills,therefore they comply with the development of large-scale,high-speed,and integrated paper machines.Based on the application results from paper mills,this paper suggests that the best liquid pigment should be cationic,and its pH value within 4.5～5.5,average particle size around 0.2 μm,light fastness 7～8 grade,heat resistance more than 200 ℃,acid and alkali resistance 4～5 grade,color differences between different batches of liquid pigment(ΔE) less than 0.5,in addition,the chemical structures of the pigments and the influence of high valent metal ions in the system on the performances of the pigments should be investigated.The paper also proposes the methods of testing the storage stability and foaming properties of the liquid pigments.The information given in this paper can be of good guidance in developing highly efficient liquid whitening pigments,and also as a reference for formulating the corresponding technical specifications.

Abstract:Benefiting its high reactivity with natural fabrics, vinyl sulfone reactive dyes have the advantage of obtaining good color fixation and high exhaustion rates under medium or low temperatures. Although these dyes were widely applied in traditional dyeing processes, little research has been conducted on vinyl sulfone dye-based inks for digital inkjet printing. Hence, we explore an efficient and environmental-friendly ink system for inkjet printing on natural fabrics. In this work, three vinyl sulfone reactive dyes including reactive orange 131 (O-131), reactive red AS (R-AS), and reactive blue 203 (B-203) were selected to simulate the stable structure of the dye molecules in aqueous solution by GAUSSIAN 09 package based on density functional theory (DFT). On this basis, the physicochemical properties of the inks were studied and the color fastness and apparent color depth values of cotton, linen, and silk inkjet printed fabrics were tested. As a result, compared to O-131 and B-203, the monomer molecular content of R-AS dye solutions was significantly reduced and displayed a strong tendency to aggregate. The surface tensions of three inks decreased with increasing concentrations and the degree of molecular aggregation. The rheological properties of the dye solutions were correlated with concentration and molecular weight. At the same concentrations, B-203 had the largest molecular weight and the solution exhibited the largest viscosity. The printed fabrics all possessed good color quality and color fastness, and printed silk fabric displayed higher color depth than cotton and linen fabrics. This work provided a cleaner and cost-effective ink for inkjet printing on natural fabrics by exploring the properties of vinyl sulfone reactive dye-based inks.

Modification of Formaldehyde-free Discharging Agent T and Its Application in White Discharge Printing of Silk Fabrics

Abstract:In this study,formaldehyde-free discharge agent T was modified by grinding to improve its water solubility and reduction performance and used in the white discharge printing of silk fabrics to improve white discharge effect.The discharge agent T was modified with both dry-grinding and wet-grinding methods.The results showed that wet grinding with addition of preferentially selected dispersion agent could significantly decrease the particle size of modified discharge agent T and agglomeration of discharge agent T particles.The modified discharge agent T had certain solubility and dispersibility in aqueous solution,being favorable to improve its reduction efficiency to ground dyes.Optimization on two factors,temperature and pH value,of white discharge printing of silk fabric with modified discharging agent T showed that the reducibility of discharge agent T was poor in acid solution at temperature below 55 ℃.With the rise of temperature or pH value,the reducibility was remarkably increased.pH 6~7 and 55 ℃ were the turning point of reduction potential of discharging agent T.The result of silk fabric white discharge printing with discharging agent T indicated that the white discharge effect of agent T to ground dyes was better than that of conventional discharging agent rongalh H,and had no obvious effect on handle and strength properties of the fabric.

Abstract:The thiourea dioxide (TDO) was tentatively applied as a reductive discharging agent onto the discharge printing of polyester fabrics. The effect of aqueous solution temperature on the reducing capacity of TDO was thoroughly investigated by measuring oxidation-reduction potentials and hydrolysis kinetic curves. The effects of TDO on disperse dyes in aqueous solution and disperse dyes printed on the surfaces of glass substrates or polyester fabrics were investigated by analyzing the color changes before and after TDO discharge treatment. It was confirmed that TDO reduction became stronger with increasing aqueous solution temperature. TDO could destroy the chromogenic groups of the selected azo-dyes in aqueous solution and on the surfaces of glass substrates. Different from cotton and silk fabrics, the discharge effect of TDO directly depended on the compact structure of the polyester fibers. When a discharge accelerant was added into white discharge pastes with TDO, the compact structure of polyester fibers was opened up to achieve a good discharge effect. This study provides a new method for TDO development and a new strategy for the discharge printing of polyester fabrics.
Performance Requirements of Environment-friendly Water-based Pigment Paste for Synthetic Leather

Abstract:The composition, preparation of water-based pigment paste for wet type synthetic leather were introduced. Several types of pigment that have large color gamut coverage for making the paste were also presented. In the design of the production process of pigment paste, several details should be taken into account such as the heavy metals, volatile organic compounds(VOCs) content, alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether content (APEO), surfactant types and whether the pigment contains or degradation into a multi - chlorine biphenyl. The performance indicators and the compatibility testing methods of water-based pigment paste for synthetic leather were also proposed.
The Effects of Particle Size and Distribution of Disperse Dye on the Dyeing Performance of PLA Blended Fabric

Abstract:The rates of dye-uptake of 6 different dyes,such as C.I.Disperse Blue 56,were determined.Factors influencing the stability of C.I.Disperse Blue 56 were studied systematically.Weight average particle size(Dw) and weight specific surface area(Sw) were measured.The average particle size of DyStar Dianix Yellow XF was about 0.85 μm determined by JL9200 laser particle size instrument.Results showed that particle size obeys normal distribution,the size of 85% dye particles was smaller than 0.98 μm.By contrast,the particle size of two domestic dyes was larger than 1.6 μm and the cumulative average particle size was between 8 and 10 μm on the whole,which was 9 times as big as average particle size of the imported dye and the distribution was inhomogeneous.The grinding condition was selected and a stable homogeneous disperse dye solution was obtained by studying the relations between disperse dye particle size and dyeing performance.The average exhaustion rate increased 7% by using fineness improved disperse dye.

Abstract:Purpose – The purpose of this research is to prepare a dispersion resin with good dispersity and a colour paste with good stability. At present, the colour paste is being prepared using the pigment dispersion resin which has the group quaternary ammonium. The dispersion resin prepared has good dispersity of pigment and extender. However, the stability of storage and construction of the colour paste is relatively poor, which has a negative influence on the application of cathodic electrodeposited (CED) coatings. However, the detailed investigation on the dispersion resin and the stable colour paste has not been reported. Design/methodology/approach – Three steps are adopted to prepare the dispersion resin, that is blocking toluene diisocyanate (TDI), quaternary ammoniation of blocked TDI and ring opening of epoxy resin. The resultant dispersion is used to prepare the colour paste. The factors, which have an influence on the dispersity of the dispersion resin and stability of the colour paste, are optimised. Findings – The typical recipes of preparing the dispersion resin and the resultant colour paste are obtained. The dispersity of the dispersion resin and stability of the colour paste are good based on the typical recipe. In addition, the film of the CED coating is smooth, dense and hard when the colour paste is used in the CED coating. Practical implications – The dispersion resin can be used to prepare a colour paste, which can be used in the CED coatings. In addition, it also can be applied as a binder of coatings and adhesions. Originality/value – The factors, which have an influence on the dispersity of the dispersion resin and stability of the colour paste, are studied in detail. The typical recipes of preparing the dispersion resin and the resultant colour paste are obtained. Based on the typical recipe, the dispersity of the dispersion resin and stability of the colour paste are good.

Abstract:Dyestuffs from the textile and photographic industries are becoming a major source of environmental contaminations. The treatment of dye-containing wastewater by conventional methods has drawback due to difficulties in the complete removal of color and expensive. TiO2 is the most common photocatalyst because it is chemical stability, non-toxicity and low cost. The excitated wavelength of TiO2 can be widened by the treatment of doping or dye sensitizing. The new advances of dyestuffs photocatalytic degradation with TiO2 are reviewed with 39 references.

Abstract:Direct inkjet digital printing is a relatively green and environmentally friendly textile printing method with a wide range of applications in the textile printing and dyeing industry. However, pretreatment of the fabric is required before digital printing, which will generate certain energy consumption and wastewater. In this study, a digital direct inkjet printing method was developed to improve the printing accuracy of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics without any pretreatment. A kind of direct inkjet printing ink was prepared by the response change in temperature viscosity. The increase in viscosity inhibits ink bleeding on the fabric, thereby improving printing accuracy. A thermosensitive direct inkjet printing disperse dye ink was prepared by adding cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and 3-methylsalicylic acid (3MS) to the ink. By evaluating the changes in the ink particle size, shear viscosity, and temperature viscosity, it was found that this thermosensitive ink has an excellent average particle size and special changes in viscosity with increasing temperature. When this heat-sensitive ink is printed on a polyester fabric, the fabric does not need pretreatment to improve the clarity of printing, and the printed fabric has satisfactory color fastness to friction and washing.

Abstract:Both 2% and 5% omf dyeings of polycotton fabric which had been produced using commercial grade disperse dyes and reactive dyes can be washed-off using two, novel processes that utilise polyamide beads. The bead wash-off processes provided dyeings that were of similar colour, depth of shade and fastness compared to those which had been subjected to a conventional reduction clearing process in the case of the disperse dyes and a conventional wash-off in the case of the reactive dyes. The wastewater obtained from the bead wash-off of disperse dyes contained considerably lower concentrations of chloride ion as well as lower TDS compared to that secured using a conventional reduction clearing process, which was attributed to the beads having adsorbed vagrant chloride ions. In contrast, bead wash-off of reactive dyes did not reduce either the chloride ion concentration nor TDS content of the wastewater produced, because of the swamping effect of the very high chloride ion concentration. Bead wash-off also enabled significant reductions in both heat energy and water consumption to be achieved.

Abstract:A series of submicron organic pigment microcapsules with high pigment encapsulating efficiency and narrow particles size distribution was prepared via in-situ miniemulsion polymerization. The self-adhesive pigment microcapsules were applied to pigment printing of silk fabrics. It was found from printing qualities that, the K/S value, handle, dry and wet rubbing fastness of silk fabrics printed by pigment microcapsules were much better than those printed by traditional pigment paste. The TEM observation of the printed fabrics further indicated that the presence of adhesive polymeric layer on the pigment particles can remarkably improve the dispersion of pigment particles on fabric surface and the adhesion between pigment particles and the target fabric.

Abstract:Organic solvents adjusting the surface tension and viscosity of reactive dye inks for good droplet formation has resulted in low dye utilization and serious environmental pollution. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) has advantages of biocompatibility, renewability and excellent surface tension and viscosity. Here, an organic solvent free dye ink was developed using HPMC and the printability of HPMC/dye inks was compared with diethylene glycol (DEG)/dye inks and commercial inks. Only adding 0.6 wt% of HPMC could obtain good droplet formation, while DEG needed to be added by 50 wt%. The HPMC/dye ink printed patterns exhibited much deeper color than the DEG/dye ink and the commercial ink due to the less diffusion of HPMC/dye ink to the back of the fabric. moreover, as the small dosage of HPMC and the poor reactivity between HPMC and reactive dye, the coloring effluent of the HPMC/dye ink was less than the DEG/dye ink and the commercial ink. According to the data of World Textile Information Network, HPMC adjusting the jetting performance will save 1.4 billion ¥ than DEG in 2025. The HPMC/dye ink is a clean ink with advantages of high performance and low pollution and cost.

Preparation and Application of Microencapsulated Disperse Dyes

Abstract:Microcapsules containing disperse dyes were prepared by means of in-situ polymerization. Polyester fabrics were multiple-transfer printed and color-mix printed using those microencapsulated dyes under different process conditions. By color measurement instrument, it can be seen that the times of multiple-transfer printing are up to ten while under appropriate conditions, especially when the transfer printing time is 50 seconds and the transfer printing temperature is 180°C. On the other hand, the K/S value of each transfer printing can keep almost constant. Meanwhile, the visual effect of color- mix printing with microencapsulated disperse dyes is special in the varicolored exhibiting if compared with conventional disperse dyes.
