Analysis of Risk Behaviors of HIV Infection among Male Population Aged 18～49 in Yunnan Province

Abstract:Objective To determine the risk behaviors of HIV infection among male general population.Methods 3 008 male residents of 5 counties,aged 18～49,were interviewed using PPS sampling method.Results 8.6% urban residents and 9.9% rural residents reported having sexual intercourse with commercial partners during the past 12 months,and the rate was higher in young group and minorities.The percentage of urban residents and rural residents who used condom consistently during the last 12 months with commercial sex workers was 36.3% and 34.2% respectively.The rate of condom using was different with different types of partner.0.8% urban residents and 0.7% rural residents reported having sexual intercourse with male partners during the past 12 months,and no difference had been found between counties and ethnic groups.The rate of drug using in the past among urban and rural residents was 1.4% and 4.3% respectively.The rate of current drug abusing was 0.54% and 0.55% respectively,and was 4.9% among minorities and 2.9% among Han nationality.The rate of drug abusing was higher in counties with high HIV epidemic.Conclusions The risk of HIV epidemic through injecting drug users is continuing in Yunnan Province.New challenge of HIV transmission through commercial sex activities and MSM is emerging.It is suggested that enhanced intervention should be focused on young people,minority resident areas and areas with severe drug problem.Integration of MSM intervention is called for into HIV/AIDS strategic plan and action should be taken as soon as possible.
