Abstract:Pesticides are indispensably essential in agricultural practices. Traditional pesticides and environmentally friendly pesticides both are used to control the damage caused by pests and diseases. Conventional procedures were carried out to detect pesticide residues using chromatography and spectrophotometric techniques. Inno-vative extractions (micro-extraction) and detection technologies (biosensors, screening cards, etc.) have been developed for faster and more efficient screening of pesticide compounds in plant-derived foodstuffs. The present review summarized the trends of pesticide occurrence in plant-derived foodstuffs, and discussed the advances in pesticides detection. Also, the pesticide dissipation and the mechanism of action are discussed. The extensive literature review demonstrates various techniques already in use or having futuristic potential for detecting and dissipating pesticides in foodstuffs, which can pave the way for future research efforts.

Abstract:Extensive usage of pesticides in agriculture has imposed a serious problem to human health and environment worldwide. A lot of efforts have been made to develop convenient and effective methods for pesticide residue analysis. As a simple, rapid, sensitive and accurate analytical technique, amperometry has drawn more and more attentions in this area within the last few years. The research has been focused on fabrication and modification of different working electrodes to optimize their performance, mainly to improve sensitivity and lower detection limit. The recent progress on amperometric detection for pesticides to be reviewed is brought under three main headings: general electrodes, modified electrodes and microelectrodes as working electrodes in the analysis systems. It is envisaged that integration and portability are the development trend, of electrochemical determination system for pesticide residue analysis.

Abstract:The pesticide residues in foods have received increasing attention as one of the most important food safety issues. Therefore, more strict regulations on the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides in foods have been established in many countries and health organizations, based on the sensitive and reliable analysis methods of pesticide residues. However, the analysis of pesticide residues is a continuing challenge mainly because of the small quantities of analytes as well as the large amounts of interfering substances which can be co-extracted with them, often leading to experimental errors and damage to the analytical instruments. Thus, extensive sample preparation is often required for the pesticide residue analysis for the effective extraction of the analytes and removal of the interferences. This paper focuses on reviewing the recent development in the sample preparation methods for the pesticide residue analysis in foods since 2006. The methods include: liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), supercritical-fluid extraction (SFE), pressurized-liquid extraction (PLE), microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), solid-phase extraction (SPE), molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD), solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME), QuEChERS, cloud point extraction (CPE) and liquid phase micro-extraction (LPME), etc. Particularly their advantages, disadvantages and future perspectives will be discussed.

Abstract:The status, pesticide residues in farm products, including criterion, techniques of determination and degradation in domestic and abroad are briefly introduced. Some new pre-treatment methods, such as SPE, MAE, SPME, etc are showed. Some pesticide residues degradation techniques such as fungi and bacteria etc. microbial degradations, ultrasonic cleaning and irradiation etc. physical degradations, and ozone oxidation and photo-degradation etc. chemical degradations are discussed. The emphasis and direction of research on pesticide residues in China are suggested as well.

Abstract:The extensive use of pesticides in environment and the difficulty of their residue detection make the analysis of pesticides residue the foreland and hotspot in environmental science.Due to its efficiency,reliability and conveniency to achieve automation,solid-phase extraction is a suitable means for the analysis of pesticides residue.The basic principle,influence factors and application progress were introduced in this paper.The detection methods,like liquid chromatography(LC) and gas chromatography(GC),were summarized.It was suggested that the current direction for the analysis of pesticides residue is multiresidue analysis of pesticide with variety of polarity and pKa,making use of SPEHPLC.

Abstract:The progress on sample preparation techniques for analysis of the pesticide residues in foodstuffs was reviewed. The applications of the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), solid-phase microextraction (SPME), microwave aided extraction (MAE) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) in analysis of pesticide residues in foodstuffs were described. Special attention was given to SFE technique and its hyphenation with gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The trends of sample preparation techniques for analysis of pesticide residues in foodstuffs were also discussed.

Abstract:Pesticides are one of the mandatory defense weapons in this modern world to win over the vast populations of plant pests attacking crops during and after cultivation. But injudicious application of these chemicals creates nuisance to the environment leading to residues, resistance, and pest resurgence problem. These residues bind to the environment and revolve in the food chain resulting in bioaccumulation and biomagnification. As the presence of trace amounts of both pesticide residues and their degradation products could be potential health hazards, the International organizations like FAO, WHO have already raised concerns regarding presence of these toxic chemicals in soil, food, and feed samples. Codex Alimentarius Commission after years of trial determined a value called maximum residue limit (MRL) with the aim to establish restrictive measures to protect the environment against pollution. Due to intensive use of pesticides, their residues have become an intrinsic part of the environment including soil, and they are often detected in various samples and therefore their monitoring has been frequently performed throughout the world. Considering low concentration levels of pesticide residues in soil matrices and the determination of these residues often requires extensive sample extraction and clean-up prior to the analysis. This article describes the different sample preparation techniques including their extraction and clean-up that are widely applied for soil sample analysis for pesticide residues.

Abstract:In the process of pollutant analysis of environmental samples,pretreatment is essential,especially for trace contaminants which usually need concentration before analysis. Concentration can improve sensitivity of the method and lower the minimum detection limit,while concentrated environmental samples are much easier to be stored and transported compared with raw environmental samples. Pretreatment technologies for organic matter in environmental samples were reviewed,with traditional technologies including Soxhlet extraction,ultrasonic extraction,vacuum distillation method,gas chromatography and liquid chromatography as well as new technologies including supercritical fluid extraction technology, solid-phase microextraction,and blowing and sweeping collection method. The principles,advantages and disadvantages, scope of application of the technologies were reviewed and compared with each other. Extraction process of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by different technologies was analyzed,which provided a good reference for pretreatment process of other organic matters in environmental samples.

Abstract:The determination of residual pesticides is mainly divided into four processes:extraction,cleanup,concentration and detection.The methods for extracting samples include shaking extraction,soxhlet’s extraction,solid phase micro-extraction,supercritical fluid extraction,accelerated solvent extraction and so on.The cleanup methods include liquid-liquid partition process,column chromatography,sulfonation and so on.The concentration methods include evaporation and concentration,reverse-osmosis,Kuderna Danish(K-D) concentrator and so on.The detection methods include gas chromatography-mass spectrometry,fluorometry,enzyme inhibition,immunoassay,biosensor and infrared spectrometry,Raman spectrometry,and so on.The advantages and disadvantages of these methods were reviewed and the development tendency in the future was pointed out.
