Abstract:The experiments were conducted to determine the suitable testing method of moisture content of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) seeds,different moisture content samples were tested by applying high constant temperature oven drying,microwave heating and seed moisture meter. The results showed:seed moisture content could be accurately tested by the oven method,but it required long time and specific equipments. The seed moisture meter is limited in instrument measuring range to determine the variety of moisture content. The results obtained from microwave oven heating,drying continuous under the low-grade after 9 minutes,then heated again as 1 minute for the heating units to 3-5 times,were lower than high constant temperature oven drying,but it was useful for detecting high moisture content seeds in a short time. It would play an important role in understanding the change of alfalfa seeds moisture content during seed harvesting,processing and storage,guiding the seed production to maintain the high quality of seeds.
