Abstract:China’s national willingness to have children has been decreasing, according to the 2020 census, China’s aging coefficient has been as high as 13.32%, the very serious aging situation will have a wide impact on China’s economic restructuring, transformation of production methods, social security system and so on. In this paper, we apply the requests library in python to crawl the population data published by the National Bureau of Statistics, and use MATLAB to construct four single models, logistic regression prediction, modified gray prediction, leslie model and fitting model, and then construct a combined model to predict the aging trend in China in the next five years, and finally give the following suggestions: first, adhere to family planning and further optimize the fertility policy; second, improve the social security system, deepen the reform of the pension system, and establish a pension system covering urban and rural areas; third, vigorously develop the aging industry.

Abstract:In this article, we develop a prediction model of China population growth, and notice that the modified index curve is a sort of curve that possesses the growth limit K in the statistics, which is the same with the problem of China population growth. Considering influences of urbanization, population aging and sex proportion, we adopt and improve the modified index model, and add some coefficients to adjust the mathematical equation according to the data. The computation results show that in a short period, the population quantity will increase slowly and approach a fixed value, and in a long term, with the influence of population aging, some factors will put up periodic fluctuations.

Abstract:Background: Forecasting the disease burden of the elderly will contribute to make a comprehensive assessment about physical and mental status of the elderly in China and provide a basis for reducing the negative consequences of aging society to a minimum. Methods: This study collected data from a public database online provided by Global Burden of Disease Study 2010. Grey model GM (1, 1) was used to forecast all-cause and disease-specific rates of disability adjusted life years (DALYs) in 2015 and 2020. Results: After cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis, we found that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) were still the greatest threats in the elderly, followed by injuries. As for 136 predicted causes, more than half of NCDs increased obviously with age, less than a quarter of communicable, material, neonatal, and nutritional disorders or injuries had uptrend. Conclusions: The findings display the health condition of the Chinese elderly in the future, which will provide critical information for scientific and sociological researches on preventing and reducing the risks of aging society.

Abstract:Population is a major problem that restricts China's comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development. Therefore, it is of great significance to establish a model that can accurately predict the population and age structure. This paper uses GM (1,1) to obtain the gender ratio of future newborn population and total population, quantifies the three-child policy as the increase in the fertility rate of women of childbearing age, uses the Leslie model to obtain the female population at all ages, and finally gets the national population and age structure in the next five years under the background of the three-child policy. The results show that the opening of the three-child policy positively impacts the increase of the newborn population and the growth rate of the total population in the early future. But as time goes by, it still cannot restrain the decrease in the newborn population and the net increase of the total population. In addition, the aging problem has not been effectively improved in the short term. In the next five years, the proportion of the aged population continues to rise, while the young population gradually decreases. In terms of the labor force coefficient, there will be a downward trend from 2021 to 2025 and a slight increase from 2025 to 2026.

Abstract:The paper systematically observes the changes of main demographic indices such as fertility,sex ratio at birth and age structure based on the 2000 census,and examines the uncertainty of China's future population trends with the method of probable population prediction.The result indicates that there are large variations among estimates of China's current fertility rates,sex ratios at birth,and the numbers of youth,which directly affect the uncertainty of China's current and future population.The uncertainties of future population caused by current population conditions are valuable information to the public.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the economy, the problem of population aging has become increasingly prominent. To analyse the key factors affecting population aging effectively and predict the development trend of population aging timely are of great significance for formulating relevant policies scientifically and reasonably, which can mitigate the effects of population aging on society. This paper analyses the current situation of population aging in Wuhan of China and discusses the main factors affecting the population aging quantitatively, and then establishes a combination prediction model to forecast the population aging trend. Firstly, considering the attribute values of the primary influence factors are multi-source heterogeneous data (the real numbers, interval numbers and fuzzy linguistic variables coexist), a two-tuple correlation coefficient analysis method is proposed to rank the importance of the influencing factors and to select the main influencing factors. Secondly, a combination prediction model named Multiple Linear Regression Analysis-Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average is established to predict the number and the proportion of aging population in Wuhan. By using the statistical data of Wuhan in the past 20 years, this combination prediction model is used for empirical analysis, and a prediction result of the number and the proportion of aging people in Wuhan in the future is obtained. Based on these quantitative analysis results, we propose some countermeasures and suggestions on how to alleviate the population aging of Wuhan from aspects of economic development, pension security system design and policy formulation, which provide theoretical basis and method reference for relevant population management departments to make scientific decisions.

Abstract:Scientific prediction and accurate grasp of the future trend of population change are conducive to the formulation of different population policies at different stages, so as to alleviate the adverse effects of the aging population on society and provide scientific theoretical reference for controlling the population size and making policy. Considering that the population system is affected by many complex factors and the structural relationship among these factors is complex, it can be regarded as a typical dynamic grey system. In this paper, the fractional-order GM (1, 1) model and the fractional-order Verhulst model are established, respectively, based on the statistical data of China's population indices from 2015 to 2019 to forecast the population size and the change trend of population structure of China from 2015 to 2050 in the short-term and medium- to long-term. The forecast results show that China’s population will grow in an inverse S shape from 2015 to 2050, when the total population will reach 1.43 billion. Moreover, during this period, the birth rate and natural growth rate of population will decrease year by year, and the proportion of aging population and the dependency ratio of population will increase year by year. Besides, the problem of aging population is going to become increasingly serious. The application of grey system method to population prediction can mine the complex information contained in the population number series. Meanwhile, the fractional-order accumulation can weaken the randomness of the original data series and reduce the influence of external disturbance factors, so it is a simple and effective population prediction method.

Abstract:The traditional methods of population projection are often without the parameters of migration, or only contain the total rate, let along the age?specific migration rate. This paper provided a stochastic method with the factor of migration for the regional district. Firstly we did a reverse comparison based on the 6 th and 5 th national census and calculated the age?specific migration rate, by gender, between two census in Ningbo. Based on the stochastic projection model and under five scenario analyses, this paper forecasted the population trend and ageing process. Meanwhile, we evaluated the effect of different parameters (migration, birth, death). Prediction results show that migration is the key impact factor to the population size and the low?level of mortality and fertility are the main reason of ageing. This method can be widely applied to various regions and help the local government to take effective demographic policies. The total population tends to get more than 9 million, although the migration level has a decrease trend. The young labor migration works will have a limited effectiveness to pull down the upsurge of the old dependency ratio in Ningbo city. The government should take measures to boost the birthrate, improve the hukou policy to encourage talent migrants settle down and should establish a completed social security system before the coming of elderly society.

Abstract:The age structure of the Chinese population is entering a process of generalized aging in which the major age groupings will see a fall in the ratio of younger age groups and a rise in the ratio of older age groups, with varying levels of socioeconomic significance for the entire population system. The implementation of the unconditional two-child policy (quanmian erhai zhengce) has not changed this general trend. The early stage of population aging (2011-2060) is one of the high-speed development of generalized aging with multiple growth peaks and fluctuations in the size, growth rate and internal structure of the major age groupings. From the perspective of generalized population aging, China's future contains four major systemic demographic dividends and faces four major systemic demographic risks. The early stage of aging is the most important period for the transformation of the population age structure. If society can adjust to the aging trend and the phased nature of the development of this trend, it will be able to seize the initiative in long-term development.

Abstract:In the future, population ageing will represent the basic national condition of China in the long term. Therefore, it is essential to explore the changes in the supply of the working population and its impact influence on the effective allocation of labour resources in the context of population ageing, while evaluating the governance efficacy of AI. The study findings indicate that population ageing significantly exacerbates the mismatch of labour resources, whereas the application of AI mitigates the adverse impacts of population ageing on labour resource allocation. Additionally, the distortionary effects of population ageing on the allocation of labour resources are greater in regions with high average education levels and regions with more extensively segmented markets, while the moderating effects of AI are reported to be more effective. Thus, the proposed findings extend a theoretical basis for improving the efficiency of labour resource allocation from the perspective of population ageing.

Abstract:The overall scale and proportion of the aging population in China is on the rise. The rate of population aging is further accelerated. The trend of advanced aging is increasingly obvious. This study analyzes the current situation and causes of the aging population and proposes specific solution paths and strategies. The authors suggest reducing the impact of population aging by encouraging childbirth to fundamentally increase the number of newborns population, actively promoting the policy of delaying retirement, and building a redistribution system compatible with an aging society. Society is suggested to accelerate the establishment of a sound social security system and to reduce the stereotype of the aged. Applying modern science and technology and better public policies can improve the quality of services for the elderly. These suggestions in this paper provide a reference for improving the social work of the elderly, which is conducive to improving the quality of life and happiness index of the elderly.

A Policy Analysis on Challenges and Opportunities of Population/Household Aging in China

Abstract:This study presents an integrated policy analysis on population/household aging based on 2010 census and other recent data and the ProFamy extended cohort-component projection method. The results demonstrate that Chinese population and households will age quickly and to a large scale under any scenario, However, compared to the prior rigorous fertility policy unchanged and the recently-adopted two-child for only-child couples policy, a universal two-child policy with encouraging adequate spacing would create much better demographic conditions in the future concerning proportions of elders, oldest-old and elderly empty-nest households; labor force and pension deficit rates; sex ratio at birth and marriage squeeze; and only-child elderly with increased risk of childlessness and socioeconomic costs. Based on extensive empirical research evidence, we propose three policy actions which are crucially important for China’s sustainable development. First, to transit to a universal two-child policy as soon as possible; we demonstrate why it is highly feasible and will not cause any new baby booms. Second, to gradually increase currently very low retirement age, which would help China to avoid serious pension deficit problems. Third, to further develop rural old age insurance programs, which will reduce more serious aging problems in rural areas compared to cities. These three policy actions may enable China to create opportunities to successfully face the serious challenges of population and household aging.

Abstract:The analysis and projection of current Chinese population dynamics is the main emphasis of this study. This topic is extremely important in terms of demography, economics, sociology, and international relations. With approximately 1.43 billion people, China is the most populous country in the world and a worldwide giant in both economic and geopolitical terms. This study looks at historical, cultural, economic, and policy-related issues in an effort to understand the intricacies that have led China to this demographic prominence. China's population increase may be traced back to its ancient civilization, which cultivated cultural customs and conventions that still have an impact on demographic patterns now. The demographic dividend, a population surge in the middle of the 20th century, signaled a turning point, and the one-child policy that followed, implemented in 1979, produced distinctive demographic contours and long-term repercussions. Fertility rates and generational dynamics have been influenced by the government's evolution of family planning programs, which have ranged from strict measures to more relaxed methods. Understanding and predicting China's population changes is urgent because of the societal and worldwide repercussions of this country's changing demographics. This study sets out on an exploratory trip to understand the complex causes and possible future trends in light of previous studies. This paper wants to contribute to a thorough knowledge of China's demographic evolution and its effects on global society by shedding light on these factors.

Abstract:A number of studies based on 1982, 1990 and 2000 census micro data reveal that the household composition in China has been changing substantially in the past a couple of decades (Zeng and Wang, 2003; Guo, 2003). Those changes are reflected, for example, in the substantial increase of one-person and one-couple-only households, and decrease in average household size. More specifically, the proportion of the elderly not living with children and the proportion of one-couple-only households among the elderly population increased considerably. Changes in household composition have been and will continue to reduce the elderly care capacities of Chinese families, which will increasingly affect social services and economic development. Clearly, family support for the elderly is facing grave challenges in the process of rapid population aging and substantive changes in household structures. Applying the new ProFamy method (Zeng, Vaupel, and Wang, 1997; 1998; Zeng and Land et al., 2006; 2008), its associated computer software, and the recent census and survey data mainly collected around the 2000 census, this study projects the future changes in family household size and structure, elderly living arrangements, and population aging in the period of 2000-2050 under the scenarios of medium assumptions on fertility, mortality, rural-urban migration, marriage, and divorce for rural and urban areas in China. As compared to the other previous demographic projection studies concerning the future population in China, this study has two unique features. First, we simultaneously project the trends of population age and sex distributions and project family households and elderly living arrangements. This is useful since dynamic changes in family households, elderly living arrangements, and population age/sex structures occur simultaneously. Abstract:In recent years, the population growth rate has been gradually declining in China. As the population problem becomes increasingly significant, the accurate prediction of population development trends has become a top priority, used to facilitate national scientific planning and effective decision making. Based on historical data spanning a period of 20 years (1999–2018), this article presents predictions of the populations of 210 prefecture-level cities using the Malthusian model, Unary linear regression model, Logistic model, and Gray prediction model. Furthermore, because the gray prediction model exhibited the highest degree of accuracy in formulating predictions, this study uses the model to predict and analyze future population development trends. The results reveal that the population gap between cities is gradually widening, and the total urban population shows a pattern of rising in middle-tier cities (second-tier cities and third-tier cities) and declining in high-tier cities (first-tier cities and new first-tier cities) and low-tier cities (fourth-tier cities and fifth-tier cities). From the viewpoint of geographical distribution, the population growth rate is basically balanced between the northern part and the southern part of China. In addition, the population growth of the high-tier cities is gradually slowing while the low-tier cities are experiencing a negative growth of population, but middle-tier cities are experiencing skyrocketing population growth. From the viewpoint of regional development, although the development of regional integration has been strengthened over the years, the radiative driving effect of large urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas is relatively limited.

Abstract:Using in-depth data analyses and scientific methods, this paper provides an exhaustive discussion of the gender composition, urban-rural distribution, and age levels of the population in various provinces of China, thus revealing the far-reaching impact of the evolution of the population structure on social and economic progress. Firstly, using data visualisation techniques combined with K-mean cluster analysis, this study reveals the phenomenon of gender imbalance and proposes a series of countermeasures, including strengthening education on gender equality, promoting gender-equal social participation, and paying attention to gender-selective behaviours. Secondly, the study provides an in-depth analysis of the trend of population migration in the process of urbanisation and the problems derived therefrom, and advocates the government to adopt scientific planning and policy guidance measures in order to narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas, and to promote integrated urban and rural development. Finally, the paper provides a detailed analysis of the trend of population aging and insights into the challenges it poses to the pension service system, health care system and labour market, suggesting the formulation of a more flexible fertility policy and the vigorous development of the pension service industry to cope with the challenges posed by aging.

Abstract:Since the reform and opening up, China's population aging has gradually deepened, and nowadays, population aging has become one of the most concerned issues for China's economic development. Therefore, the research theme of this paper is the current situation and development trend of population aging in China and specifically analyzes the impact of population aging on economic development in terms of labor supply, employment, and investment. The research methods of this paper are literature analysis and data analysis. It is found that the proportion of China's aging population in the total population is already greater than 16.7%, and it will accelerate in the future. And the rise of the aging population has different degrees of negative impacts on labor supply, employment, and investment, and has an inhibitory effect on economic development. Therefore, this paper suggests that in the face of the challenge of population aging, the state can increase the investment in human capital, encourage enterprises to innovate, and improve production performance through new technologies. Rational use of the demand generated by aging, and the development of the service industry to increase employment.

Abstract:This paper explores the influence of demographic changes, particularly the sharp decline in fertility and the evolution of the population age structure, on economic development in China. A general equilibrium overlapping generations model with endogenous decisions on fertility, educational investment, and factor accumulation is employed for our analysis. The family support provided by children to the elderly, which is a component of traditional culture in Chinese society, is also considered. We find that technological changes matter most for growth. Demographic changes, on average, account for approximately 4% of the growth in China, while the effect is negative in the pre‐1980 period. With an extension to include population aging, we find that aging is not necessarily adverse to growth. This finding reflects the fact that a longer life expectancy requires more savings and makes educational investment in children more attractive, which accelerates physical capital and human capital accumulation. However, if the social norm of family support for aging parents is strict, aging will significantly increase the children's burden and crowd out physical and human capital accumulation.
