Abstract:Two new species of the genus Aalatettix Zheng & Mao, 2002, namely Aalatettix yangi sp. nov. and Aalatettix xiai sp. nov. are described and illustrated. The new species Aalatettix yangi sp. nov. is allied to Aalatettix gibbosa Zheng, Cao & Chen, 2011, but upper margin of pronotum waved in lateral view, width of frontal ridge narrower than width of basal joint of antennae, hind tibiae dark brown, base not pale. The new species Aalatettix xiai sp. nov. is allied to Aalatettix yangi sp. nov., but length of pronotum shorter, not reaching epiproct, width of vertex 1.5 times diameter of eye, lateral carinae of pronotum contracted backward distinctly, posterior apex of lower margin angular on lateral lobe of pronotum, lower margin of median femur waved, antennae placed under lower margin of eyes. The type specimens are deposited in the National Museum of Natural Science, Taichung, Taiwan, China.

Abstract:During our studying of the fauna of Tibet, China, many specimens of the subfamily Tachininae ( Diptera , Tachinidae ) were collected and examined. Three species are described here as new to science, Leskia latisurstyla sp. nov. , Trichoformosomyia cuonaensis sp. nov. , and Tachina jilongensis sp. nov. , and two species, Nemoraea javana (Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1894) and N. echinata Mesnil, 1953, are newly recorded from Tibet. In addition to their descriptions, illustrations, and diagnoses, three identification keys are provided. The specimens in this study are kept in the Insect Collection of Shenyang Normal University, China ( SYNU ).

Abstract:Two new species from China, Hymenogaster pseudoniveus and H. zunhuaensis, are described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular evidence. Hymenogaster pseudoniveus is distinguished from other species of the genus based on the color of peridium, which is snow white to white when unexcavated but then turns yellowish to earth yellow, and the basidiospores, which are ornamented with nearly longitudinally arranged ridges up to 2 μm high. H. zunhuaensis is diagnosed by its dirty white to pale yellow peridium, yellow brown to brown gleba, and the smaller (Lm × Wm = 11.7 μm × 9.8 μm) broadly ellipsoidal to subglobose basidiospores (Q = 1.1–1.3). ITS/LSU-based phylogenetic analysis supports the erection of the two new species, each placed in distinct clades with strong statistical support, suggesting that they represent two distinct species novel to science. Based on the morphological and molecular evidence, we have published two new species of Hymenogaster. A key for Hymenogaster species from China is provided.

Abstract:Two new species of the genus Sphingonotus Fieber, 1852, namely Sphingonotus taiwanensis sp. nov. and Sphingonotus zhongningensis sp. nov. are described in this paper from China. The new species Sphingonotus taiwanensis sp. nov. is similar to Sphingonotus nebulosus (Fiescher-Waldheim, 1846), but differs from the latter by interspace of mesosternum wider, width 1.8 times the length; hind femur pale red on inner side; hind tibia pale red, with 13 spines on inner side and 10 spines on outer side; hind wing pale yellow at base. The new species Sphingonotus zhongningensis sp. nov. is similar to Sphingonotus salinus (Pallas, 1773), but differs from the latter in: vertical diameter of eye 1.3 times horizontal diameter; metazona of pronotum is 2.0 times prozona in length; hind tibiae with 13 spines on inner side and 12 spines on outer side; black band of hind wing wider in the middle, apical part not narrowed; black band of hind wing in the apical part larger, not divided into two.The type specimens are deposited in the Taiwan Agricultural Research of Institute (TARI), Taichung Taiwan, China and in the College of Plant Protection, China Agricultural University, Beijing, China respectively.

Abstract:During an extensive survey of diatoms from the Great Xing'an Mountains, China, two unusual species of the genus Pinnularia Ehrenb. were discovered. Based on both light and scanning electron microscopic observations, both species are described as new: Pinnularia subaldenii sp. nov. and Pinnularia paludosa sp. nov. The morphology of both species is compared to other similar species of the genus. Both have no fascia in the central area. Pinnularia subaldenii is distinguished by the clearly different central area and continuous raphe on the valve interior. Pinnularia paludosa is distinguished by its large dimensions and distinct crescent-shaped markings in the central area. Environmental conditions in the habitats containing the two new species are presented and discussed.

Abstract:The genus Zygoneura Meigen is revised thoroughly from China, and 14 species are recognized and illustrated, including four new species: Zygoneura ( Allozygoneura ) xizangensis Shah & Huang sp. nov ., Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) minuscula sp. nov. , Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) motuoensis sp. nov. and Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) yangi sp. nov. In addition, Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) divergens (Mamaev), Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) flavicornis (Mamaev), and Zygoneura ( Pharetratula ) subdivergens (Mohrig & Mamaev) are reported for the first time from China. The identification of these species is supported by both morphological characteristics and sequence data obtained from cytochrome oxidase subunit one (COI) in the DNA barcode analysis. Furthermore, a checklist of the known Zygoneura species in China is also provided, along with an identification key for males.
