Abstract:With huge amount of information emerging every day, it brings challenges to advanced undergraduate students and junior postgraduate students. Actually, those students have different levels of information literacy due to the diversity of students' backgrounds. To improve students' information literacy, this paper designs a course, which puts it into practice by a class of software engineering major. The course structure consists of three parts that aims to improve students' three abilities: learning ability, academic research ability, and innovation ability. For learning ability, multiple usages of searching engines are added to help develop their search quotient. For academic research ability, how to search in many databases and how to manage the literatures are important issues. For innovation ability, how to evaluate innovations and how to manage one's inspirations are included. These three abilities are trained by project assignment that is required in a limited time. A questionnaire is carried out to obtain the feedbacks of participants. The results shed light on that the design of our course achieves good results with high satisfaction degree. It shows that the proposed course structure is very welcome and it has promising applications in other majors.

Abstract:Amidst the epoch of immense data, accompanied by the burgeoning prevalence of investigations into data literacy and the educational aspects thereof, various university libraries have also begun to learn from successful experiences abroad and conduct scientific research on data literacy education. In the realm of information technology, the focal point of research has shifted towards the burgeoning prominence of data literacy education, but the theoretical and practical research on data literacy is relatively weak and insufficient, and more detailed research is needed to address the existing problems. The article reviews the research on data literacy both domestically and internationally, focusing on cultivating readers' data awareness, developing reasonable teaching content, constructing a data literacy teaching system and integrating data literacy resource platforms, and building a professional and efficient data literacy teaching team. The article explores the optimization methods for reader data literacy education.

Abstract:Purpose Digital literacy has become a widely studied topic for connecting people, participation in government and public affairs. It encourages library professionals to train students and effectively acquire, preserve and disseminate knowledge. Academic libraries involve using digital technology improved the students’ level of digital literacy and technological skills. This paper aims to understand the students’ technological competence in using database resources and searching for online information. In addition, to evaluate the training contents and designated instructors on digital literacy education, the study also focuses on digitally exposed students’ learning behavior, the library management and students’ academic interaction on new technological trends. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a quantitative method for which primary data were collected from university students using a structured research questionnaire. Through targeted random sampling techniques, 1,500 printed questionnaires were distributed among students, and 1,266 (84.4%) responses were received. The authors applied descriptive statistics to analyze the demographic information of male and female students. The statistical technique Chi-square test ( χ 2 ) was applied using SPSS to determine the association between variables. Moreover, Bonferroni correction for the new a value [modified = 0.05/number of possible comparisons/analysis for each question shown in Tables (II-IX)] was also used to avoid a family-wise error. Findings The results inferred a strong association between students’ technological skill with using digital tools, utilization of database resources and browsing networked information on the Web. The association between universities in terms of recruiting designated instructors on digital literacy education, introducing ICT based curriculum and the association between library management in maintaining a regular training program on digital literacy demonstrated a negative association. Besides, the findings disclosed that student’s digital exposure is not the forcing factor in developing technological competence, but found to be a more encouraging factor. It was also concluded that library technological involvement significantly improves student technology-based learning skills. Practical implications The results obtained after the analyzed data may help library management in providing long-term strategy for improving digital literacy education and training for students in the effective utilization of technology for better academic performance and social integration. Originality/value The study was based on quantitative methods using a questionnaire. Extensive database coverage and digital literacy skills based on coach input can improve student performance and academic quality.

An Evaluation of Digital Information Literacy Skills among Undergraduate Students of Library and Information Science in Universities in Nigeria

Abstract:The purpose of the study is to evaluate the digital information literacy skills among Library and Information Science (LIS) students in universities in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research method, and a questionnaire was used to collect data from 279 final-year undergraduate students of Library and Information Science departments in six federal universities offering LIS in Nigeria. The study found that the final-year students of Library and Information Science trust their information search proficiency on the internet. The LIS students are aware of some information resources and not aware of others such as electronic theses and dissertations, e-reference books and e-books. The study revealed that the students frequently used online information resources such as online newspapers, online journal articles, online databases, and internet information. The majority of the students indicated that they do not trust and use information they find on the internet for their academic assignments. To search for information for academic assignments, the students try to use different subject terms on Boolean operators. The study discovered that students preferred digital sources of information, but still used the library to retrieve needed information. It also emerged that the students evaluate information resources by checking for currency, and the author’s name and expertise. The findings of the study may be critical for designing information systems that fit the information needs of students and support information management in developing countries. This could help educators in universities improve the learning experiences of their students and improve their competitiveness in the job market. Digital information literacy skills must become an integral part of higher education curricula in developing countries. Therefore, the study recommends that all students in universities need to take courses on digital information literacy irrespective of their field of study.

Abstract:The latest evaluation indicators of digital literacy are applied to college students to evaluate their level of digital literacy. Evaluation areas applied in this study are roughly classified into technical literacy, bit literacy, and virtual community literacy, and each of these has five sub-groups. This paper attempts to analyze the level of effect of these categories and sub-groups on information use behavior. This study used a survey, as did much of the previous research. College students from five different colleges were targeted, with 221 surveys out of 250 returned, a return rate of 88.4%. As to results, bit literacy influences information use behavior most, followed by virtual community literacy and technical literacy in that order. Bit literacy is related to the ability to use information including information search, information discernment, editing information, processing information, and utilizing information, and these items appear to have influenced information use behavior most. Examination of these detailed items shows that the ability to process information has the most significant effect on information use behavior followed by information discernment, information editing, community analysis, document editing, and use of tools and ability to create cyber culture in that order. The literacy indicators with the lowest effect on information use behavior were the ability to communicate, form self-identity, information search, and form relationships in that order.

Abstract:This paper starts with the analysis of the relations between the information literacy of people and their knowledge structure,followed by the following statements.Information literacy is one of the primary accomplishments of people in digital age.The systematic knowledge about fundamental theories,essential knowledge,and basic skills of information science,which included in information literacy,is an important part of knowledge structure of people in digital age.The role that information literacy plays in the construction and optimization of knowledge structure can not be underestimated.Based on the statements above,the conclusion can be reached that the improvement of information literacy of university students in information age should be integrated into the construction of their complete knowledge structure,and the information literacy should be internalized as a part of their knowledge structure.We can also conclude that new ideas,concepts,contents and methods should be created to optimize the knowledge structure of university students,so that a solid foundation will be laid for their career advancement in the digital age by improving their information literacy.
An Empirical Study on the Influencing Factors of User Satisfaction of Digital Library

Abstract:In order to improve the quality of digital library information service, and then increase the user satisfaction, based on the LibQUAL+TM, this paper uses the literature method and expert interview method to analyze and summarize current research results, and put forward influencing factors of user satisfaction of digital library and research hypothesis. The paper uses the method of questionnaire to collect the data and analyzes the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, and the research hypothesis are validated through correlation analysis and factor analysis. On this basis, in order to avoid multiple co-linear relationships in the process of multiple regression analysis, the factors are extracted by principal component analysis and rotated by the maximum variance method, and then the paper calculates the factor loading and the score of common factors and establishes the influencing factors model of user satisfaction of digital library and does an empirical study. The results show that Digital Library, in order to improve user satisfaction, should strengthen the construction of factors related to information factors, human-computer interaction factors and user factors, and rapidly achieve and improve the goal of user satisfaction of digital library.

Abstract:Taking university students’ information literacy as the research object, selecting the CNKI core journals and CSSCI journals as the data source, and using CiteSpace III information visualized analysis software and Excel to analyze and process the data, this paper describes the research papers from aspects of periodical distribution, the distribution of journals, the important authors, and the distribution of core research institutions, in order to provide reference for the peer’s study. Abstract:In the context of the digital transformation of education, the cultivation of students' information technology ability and literacy has become a key topic of attention in educational reform. Information awareness requires students to have a certain ability to obtain information and information resolution, which is a necessary key ability for students in the "Internet plus" era. In order to explore the current development status of information awareness literacy in China and grasp its future development trends, the scientific knowledge graph analysis method was adopted to sort out the research results of Chinese researchers in the field of student information awareness literacy in the past decade. Through visual analysis and literature reading, it was found that research on information awareness literacy focuses on the cultivation of core literacy and the study of cultivation strategies, and there is relatively little research on its own. The demand for student information sensitivity and resolution will become increasingly high in the future, so research on information awareness literacy should receive more attention from people.

Abstract:Purpose Through the case analysis of China’s digital library, the purpose of this paper is to make readers understand the development status, achievements and problems of China’s digital library. At the same time, it also enables readers to understand the common application forms of these modern information technologies in digital libraries, so as to provide a reference basis for the application of new technologies in other countries’ digital libraries. Design/methodology/approach On the basis of literature review, the authors have analyzed a conspicuous collection of related papers in order to make a comprehensive summary and elaboration on the present situation of modern information technology application in Chinese digital libraries. Findings This paper defines and analyses the concepts, contents and relationships of the three most important modern Big Data information technologies, and then completes the analysis of the current situation of the application of information technology in Chinese digital libraries. The block chain can achieve more accurate information collection, more secure information storage and more effective information dissemination. Artificial intelligence can improve the existing digital library service level in three aspects: resource construction, information organization and information service. Internet plus will help transform the traditional digital library business mode in order to adapt to the change of user-centered service. Originality/value This is among the first structured attempts of comprehensively and generally summarizing the application of modern information technology in Chinese digital libraries. It also contains an original exploration of the relationship between the main kinds of modern information technology. Based on this, a relatively complete application scenario and possible vision of modern information technology in digital library can be built.

Abstract:Digital libraries have not been fully used yet in China. This situation is related to digital library usability. Some research and analysis on system usability evaluation for digital libraries in China was conducted. This paper firstly introduced evaluation method and process. Then system usability evaluation criteria of digital library (DL) were proposed. Four different types of digital libraries were selected and evaluated. Some typical examples of usability issues about these digital libraries were analyzed. Finally the usability strengths and weaknesses of digital libraries in China were summarized and discussed.

Abstract:Many theoretical and practical results on digital library research have been achieved in China.However,there is a larger gap between theoretical and practical research over the past 15 years.We analyzed Chinese digital library research papers from the perspectives of author,journal and keyword.Results reveal obvious concentration and scatteration trends in author,journal,and keyword distribution on these papers.Approximately 90% of the authors come from university libraries.The Chinese digital library research topics develop along the mode of technology to services to humanity.
