Abstract:Purpose– This paper aims to address challenges in strategic management and tries to find ways to make a breakthrough. Strategic management theorists and practitioners need new scientific theories. In the modern turbulent environment, the extant strategic management research (SMR) and strategic management theories can neither satisfy the practical needs nor the theoretical developmental needs of strategic management.Design/methodology/approach– The paper uses critique viewpoints that are unfolded according to the logic of how theories will satisfy the practical and theoretical needs. Physics and mathematics are regarded as the most beautiful and perfect scientific research fields, which help predict physical phenomena such as solar eclipse precisely. Therefore, the paper uses physics and mathematics as benchmarks to explore how SMR should make efforts to push the research further.Findings– The paper provides a different viewpoint that will help strategic theorists and practitioners investigate and understand strategic phenomena more holistically. SMR should contribute to strategic theoretical and practical progress and not just to the game of academic game play. For the goal, the paper summarizes and refines the definition of strategic management in an alternative but practical and innovative perspective, and then delineates the criteria for SMR topic choice; identifies the dilemmas and challenges the SMR faces; and points out the new approaches the strategic management researchers should explore.Originality/value– The paper challenges the mainstream of SMR by identifying the shortcomings, dilemmas, and challenges of the current SMR, and then highlights new ways to make breakthrough in SMR. The study will make strategic management scholars rethink their research and do meaningful research from the perspectives of theoretical contribution and practical guidance.

Abstract:The concepts, theories, and practices of strategic management have become very important in the modern management literature. This has become evident due to the complex, ambiguous, and dynamic nature of modern corporate management, which has been a concern for scholars in this field. The main purpose of this article is to review strategic management with an emphasis on its conceptions, theory, and connection with the resource-based philosophy of a firm’s competitive advantage. The authors analyzed the relevant literature establishing the relationship between the theory of strategic management and the competitive advantage of a firm on the grounds of the resource-based philosophy. It is specified that the resource-based model is one of the main theories of strategic management, which helps to explain the effectiveness of an organization. The main strategies for entering the external market are considered, namely: SWOT analysis; Porter’s Five Forces model; the Balanced Scorecard; Blue Ocean strategy; Agile strategy; PESTEL analysis. Each of the considered strategies for a firm’s entry into the external market has its own disadvantages and undoubted advantages, which should be considered, first of all, in the context of the product features. In the course of the study the key components of strategic management and the stages of strategic analysis are identified. Studying the competitive advantage of an organization from this school of thought allows organizations to measure the value of their internal resources and capabilities, in particular, to achieve competitive advantage. It is argued for that that the purpose of a system analysis of the external environment consists in identifying the future opportunities that a company can safely rely on, as well as to in detecting threats that may arise and which need to be prevented or reduced, also in determining the position of the enterprise opposite to competitors in the field of input factors and production. It is also proved that the advantages possessed by an enterprise should play a decisive role in choosing a strategy.

Abstract:Because of the rapid changes in the market environment and the increasing complexity of companies' organisational and operational structures, managers should rethink their company's driving and operations strategies while considering the causal relationships between variables in the feedback loop, resource accumulation, and information delay. This study used a system dynamic approach to examine and compare four different business models to discover how variations in resource accumulation (i.e. market-oriented versus service target-oriented) and operating strategy implementation (i.e. independent versus coordinated operations) affect a firm's long-term performance. We used managers' behaviour and policy factors to optimise the system dynamic models. In addition, we used theoretical system dynamics models and the simulation to examine the system profitability, stability, and sensitivity of each model. This study reveals the dynamic influence of managers' decisions on system performance and provides a roadmap for managers to adjust resource allocation and their corresponding decisions to optimise the system dynamically.

Abstract:Modularization has been a research hotspot in recent years. Among these, there are two issues that many scholars pay attention to. First, we must know what factors cause modularization, and secondly, what impact modularization has brought to enterprises. The era of information technology background makes enterprises have to deal with more and more complex information. The integration and application of internal knowledge resources also force enterprises to adjust their structure, so that knowledge can spread and create value within the enterprise more effectively. This paper, based on artificial intelligence and modular enterprise big data, constructs a matching model of corporate strategy and performance management mode, determines four different matching methods based on corporate strategy and performance management mode, and puts forward corresponding assumptions. This article selects the participants of EMBA and MBA courses offered by several universities as the survey subjects. Most of them are enterprise managers, have many years of management practical experience, have a good understanding of the basic situation of the enterprise, and can truly understand the scale and make a choice based on the actual content. In this paper, a strategic management model based on artificial intelligence and modular enterprise big data construction proves that paired sample T test can be found, the data analysis is based on the various indicator scores of the enterprise modularity level, and the resulting P value is less than 0.05 as a significant difference, which proves that these two indicators are too quantitative. The company has not done relevant statistics, so it is difficult to make a practical answer. Through comparison and analysis, it is more likely to find the gap between the company’s financial strategy and its competitors, and then it is possible to make targeted improvements and upgrades.

Abstract:Abstract The improvement of the level of informationization and the development of network science and technology have prompted the transformation of marketing methods, and the requirements of the market for the management of enterprise marketing strategy are also improving. This paper integrates the process of enterprise management and enterprise marketing strategy construction, and constructs the model of continuous marketing ability according to the system of enterprise marketing strategy operation ability and marketing strategy construction process, and constructs the model of enterprise management and enterprise constant marketing ability. From the perspective of resources and competition, the enterprise marketing power model and marketing resource allocation model are proposed and analyzed. Combined with the market research data, the user groups of R Vehicles Ltd. are characterized. With the help of LDA method, the theme capture of multi-platform user evaluation text is carried out to establish the product word-of-mouth marketing model. According to the enterprise marketing grid resource demand, BP neural network is constructed to predict the enterprise marketing expenses and evaluate the efficiency of marketing resource allocation. The analysis shows that the company’s marketing staff salary accounts for 0.4909 of the total marketing resources, resulting in a waste of resources, and thus the company should adjust the ratio of marketing resource allocation, focusing on the input to output ratio.

Abstract:How the domestic enterprises in a developing economy formulate an effective strategy in an environment of global competition is half a void not fully touched in strategic management. This significant topic is explored in this paper by the discussion of three interrelated issues. First, we have evaluated the external conditions of such a transitional developing economy as China, on which basis we have identified four key strategic factors-localization, resource-expansion-oriented growth, strategic divergence and collaboration fro competition-that form the basis for the successful strategy of domestic firms. Then, we have applied this four-factor model to analyzing such a special group of firms facing competitive changes as China's high tech corporations. Finally, we have proposed the concept of strategic complexity for future exploration. In addition to making theoretical contributions, we have offered managerial recommendations and the direction in making relative policies.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to focus on the evaluation model of the enterprises' technological innovation system, based on the theory of complex adaptive system.Design/methodology/approach - Combined with the status quo and recent studies of Chinese enterprises' technological innovation, the paper discusses the complex-system features of the technological innovation. The stimulus-response model is used to establish the two-level framework for enterprises' technological innovation system. By means of the adaptive fitness function, the economic and social utility of enterprises' technological innovation is measured from two dimensions. Finally, the fuzzy catastrophe model is introduced to evaluate the enterprises' technological innovation.Findings - The enterprises' technological innovation system has attributions of the subject aggregation, the systematic openness, nonlinearity and diversity. Thus, the macro-micro based technological innovation system from the perspective of complex adaptive system is proposed. The system utility is considered based on the system subjects and system structure, and the calculation framework of the adaptive fitness for the whole system is obtained by considering the emergent property describing the system scale effect and structure effect. In fact, the fuzzy theory can well reflect the influential situation that the interactions between different factors may cause the mutation of the higher level and the interactions between enterprises can lead to the shifts of the system.Originality/value - The paper proposes the complex adaptive system for the enterprises' technological innovation based on the special macro environment in China. A new framework for the research of technological innovation is provided by analyzing the system inner model. Fuzzy catastrophe model can reduce the evaluation irrationality due to the subjective index weights.

Abstract:The author reviews the common philosophical principles of complexity theories in science by particularly using the works of French researchers. Then the article compares the ontological and epistemological principles of positivism, constructivism, postmodernism and complexity theory. Thirdly, it examines how complexity theory principles can be applied to social sciences, in particular to management. Questions about re-evaluation of research methods in management are raised and the necessity to develop various methodological approaches in management is suggested. In the conclusion, limitations of the research are outlined and directions for future research are suggested.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe the complicated characteristics of the environment, the relationship between complicated organization and organizational transformation, and the coupling domino effect between the complication of external environment and organizational complexity by making conceptual systematic analysis.Design/methodology/approach - The relative stability and certainty of the organizational structure are being replaced by uncertainty and complexity. Organizational learning and its reform are becoming all the more important to gain organizational competitive advantage. This paper designs the system analysis method to discuss the complexity of organizational environment, the relationship between organizational complexity and organizational structure reform, and also the coupling effect of the complexity of external environment and that of the organization.Findings - It is found that organizational learning, the ways of strategic reform, and the focal point must remain consistent under the complicated environment.Research limitations/implications - The main limitation is how to construct the mathematical models describing complicated characteristics of the environment.Practical implications - The paper contains very useful advice for human resource managers.Originality/value - The paper focuses on the selection of learning patterns and strategic management of different organizational learning and the reform of organizational structure.

Abstract:Resources,environment,ecology become the main constraints to China's long-term sustainable development.On the basis of analysis of the characters of China's water crisis,Social-economic-natural complex-watershed-system is analyzed from the perspective of complex systems,revealing that the complexity and uncertainty in watershed management make the management a long-term,complex and arduous systematic prosect;on the other hand,the shortages and weaknesses of current management regime are discussed through analyzing the course of water environment and resource management in China,and current regime could not solve watershed problems.Then,the paper proposed that adaptive management is an effective strategy for improving management capacities.At last,policy recommendations on management environment,management structure,decision mechanism,management measure and scientific research are made through the comparison between adaptive management and current management regimes.

Abstract:A company in a competitive environment that wishes to be a benchmark in the business world needs a management model that enables the development of systemic thinking on the part of its executives. In addition to systemic thinking, it is also necessary that executives (i) are aware that the decision-making processes should be shared, (ii) have bounded rationality, and (iii) exert political influence according to their preferences. In this context, the aim of this paper is to describe a conceptual scientific model for strategic decision-making from rules originating from Complex Adaptive Systems and the following mathematical techniques: Analytic Network Process and Linear Programming. This applied and quantitative study is a theoretical essay developed from an integrative review of the aforementioned concepts and techniques, resulting in the proposition of a scientific and conceptual mathematical model that can be applied to a wide variety of business environments. The results obtained from a hypothetical example (Strategic Operation Management Decision) show that the model is able to rank a set of strategic decisions in the environment of most companies and generate information to minimize the negative effects of shared decisions.
