Abstract:Short-wave together with medium-and longwave broadcasting still has large listenership worldwide. With the newly developed digital system DRM will overcome these reception problems and bring high audio quality, which will change the whole broadcasting scenario. This paper will give an overview of DRM including its development history, the standardization, the receiving technology, the key features and state of the art. Abstract:Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is the world's only standard-open digital radio system for short-wave, medium-wave/AM and long-wave radio broadcasting with the ability to use existing frequencies and bandwidth across the globe. Implementation of digital radio in today's AM bands (i.e. long, medium and shortwave) based on DRM will enable operators to provide services which will be successful with both existing and future high-quality services. DRM content server is important part of the DRM radio system. This paper gives a design solution of DRM content server's structure. ©2009 IEEE.

Abstract:Digital multimedia broadcasting is available in more and more countries with various forms. One of the most successful forms is Digital Video Broadcasting for Terrestrial (DVB-T), which has been deployed in most countries of the world for years. In order to bring the digital multimedia broadcasting services to battery-powered handheld receivers in a mobile environment, Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld (DVB-H) has been formally adopted by ETSI. More advanced and complex digital multimedia broadcasting systems are under development, for example, the next generation of DVB-T, a.k.a. DVB-T2. Current commercial DVB-T/H receivers are usually built upon dedicated application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). However, ASICs are not flexible for incoming evolved standards and less overall-area efficient since they cannot be efficiently reused and shared among different radio standards, when we integrate a DVB-T/H receiver into a mobile phone. This paper presents an example implementation of a DVB-T/H receiver on the prototype of Infineon Technologies' Software-Defined Radio (SDR) platform called MuSIC (Multiple SIMD Cores), which is a DSP-centered and accelerator-assisted architecture and aims at battery-powered mass-market handheld terminals.
Intellectualized and Integrated Testing System Exploration of FM Broadcasting Transmitter

Abstract:In this paper an intellectualized and integrated testing system of FM broadcast is devised and exploited to satisfy with the requirement of digital video broadcast development.Using high speed DSP processing system,it realizes automatic testing of eleven running technology indexes according to different configuration of system,such as the frequency response of broadcast transmitter,distortion degree,SNR,and so on.the real testing results show that the technology indexes of the system achieve domestic one-up level.What′s more,the repeating quality and reliability is favorable.

Abstract:Requirement of the Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) and channel characters of the DTTB is described in this paper. On the basis of existing international standards of DTTB, the DMB-T (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting) standard is innovated by Digital TV RD Center of Tsinghua University. After comparing the critical transmission techniques of these standards, such as modulation, synchronization and channel estimation, we conclude that the DMB-T has more excellent performance.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to introduce the DMB-T (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia / Television Broadcasting) protocol developed by Digital TV Transmission Technique R&D Center of Tsinghua University. In this paper the requirements of the Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) are presented. Then the existing international standards announced by USA, Europe and Japan are discussed in brief and the structure and critical techniques of the DMB-T system are described. Simulation results have proved that the DMB-T protocol has good performance and valuable characters.

Abstract:The design and implementation of the digital baseband part of a DAB transmitter prototype are introduced.It is composed of ensemble multiplexer,channel encoder and OFDM modulator.The equipment is totally compatible with ETS 300 401 and other related standards.It supports services with various data formats and supplies a convenient user interface with the ensemble multiplexer as well.All of its I/O s and the core parts are implemented using modular desig n based on universal int ernal interface,thus can be flexibly configured accordi ng to different demand.Co mpared with the existing products,it can provide highe r flexibility and operating easiness on a much lower cost level.

Abstract:With the development of digital broadcasting technologies, Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) has become one of the most popular digital broadcasting standards in the world. The DRM Multiplex Generator is an important part of the DRM system, which can generate the digital DRM multiplex to the DRM channel encoder. This paper presents a design and implementation of a PC-based DRM multiplex generator, which multiplexes all the DRM services and generates output streams in Multiplex Distribution Interface (MDI) format. The results show that the system can accomplish multiplex and meet requirements of the DRM standard.

Abstract:The Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is a European digital trunked system standard proposed in 2006. Digital trunked radio system is a special mobile communication system that helps to enhance the work efficiency and security. The DMR over-the-air protocol from ETSI specifies the 4-level Continuous Phase Frequency Shift Keying (CPFSK) as its standard modulation scheme. In this paper, we propose a digital IF solution for the narrowband DMR system and provide both simulation and FPGA implementation result. The BER performance of the proposed method is better than multi-symbol differential detection at the DMR specified BER level. The proposed digital IF scheme can be implemented on most of the hardware platforms using software radio.

Abstract:DMR is a digital trunking communication protocol proposed by ETSI which has predictable doubling of capacity in existing 12.5 kHz licensed channels and delivers backwards spectrum compatibility with legacy analog systems. The DMR system implemented in this paper is based on SDR (Software Defined Radio) structure, which components that have been implemented in hardware (e.g. filters, modulator/demodulator, synchronization, etc.) are implemented by means of software on a central processor. The system architecture and baseband process are emphasized. The system and modules in the system can be integrated as a wave component library to other communication system, meanwhile all functions, modes and applications can be configured, reconfigured and upgraded in the field with new capabilities by software. The SDR based DMR system implemented in this paper communicates well with commercial terminals which proves the accuracy of signaling processing and compatibility with existing terminals. The system holds great significance in multi-modes system research and digital trunking communication system substitute for current analog trunking system.

Abstract:In this article, we present an in-band onchannel (IBOC) broadcasting system suitable for digital audio and data broadcasting in FM and AM channels. The new design synergistically integrates frequency hopping, LDPC coding, hierarchical modulation, and band aggregation techniques to increase the data rate, improve spectrum efficiency, and at the same time provide the spectrum flexibility necessary in highquality audio and multimedia services. A prototype has been developed on a personal computer-based software defined radio platform. Numerical results and initial laboratory tests demonstrate the significant performance advantages of the new system design.

Abstract:Parametric stereo is a state-of-the-art stereo coding method. It can efficiently encode a stereo audio signal into two parts including a monaural signal and small amount of stereo parameters. In this paper, the implementation of parametric stereo in digital radio mondial (DRM) system is presented. And the difference between parametric stereo in DRM and MPEG-4 is also discussed. Using parametric stereo, the efficiency of the audio encoder with scalable bit rate in DRM transmitter can be significantly improved. Experiment results indicate more than 33% of the total bit rate can be reduced while the audio quality maintains the same.

Abstract:In today's mobile communication systems, the design of power amplifier is becoming more challenging because the modulated RF signal high PAR(peak average ratio) must be amplified linearly so as to lower ACPR(adjacent channel power ratio) and EBR(error bit rate).In addition, the power consumption needs to be reduced to minimum.The digital predistortion technique is becoming an increasingly attractive solution to these problems, due to its excellent linearization capability and flexible application.In this paper, the basic concepts of DPD are illustrated, including the models and corresponding implementations.We believe the application of DPD to Doherty PA will be the most promising technique.

Abstract:The design and implementation of a DAB transmitter prototype is proposed. The system architecture, ensemble multiplexer, channel encoder, OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) modulator and other digital baseband parts are described. The prototype is fully compatible with ETS 300 401 and other related standards. It supports different services with various data formats and provides a convenient PC-based user interface. All I/Os and core parts are based on a modular design with a universal internal interface, hence the prototype can be flexibly configured to adapt to different requirements. Compared with existing products, the proposed transmitter prototype offers higher flexibility and lower cost.

Abstract:In the last two decades, digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) systems have been deployed worldwide. With the approval of the fourth DTTB standard called Digital Television/Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) by International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in December 2011, the research on first-generation DTTB standards is coming to an end. Recently, with the rapid progress of advanced signal processing technologies, next-generation DTTB systems like Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial-Second Generation (DVB-T2) have been extensively studied and developed to provide more types of services with higher spectral efficiency and better performance. This article starts from the brief review of the first-generation DTTB standards and the current status of emerging second-generation DTTB systems, then focuses on the common key technologies behind them instead of describing the specific techniques adopted by various standards. The state-of-the-art, technical challenges, and the most recent achievements in the field are addressed. The future research trends are discussed as well. In addition, the scheme of integrating DTTB and Internet is proposed to solve the crucial problem of information expansion.
