Abstract:Podded propeller (POD) has been developed recently as a new type of propulsion system. It is composed of a pod body, a propeller, and a strut. This propulsion system can save cabin space, reduce vibration of the main engine, increase propulsion efficiency, and improve the ship maneuverability. This study verifies the reliability of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for calculating the hydrodynamic performance of a ship equipped with a POD. To this end, a B573 ship was considered as an object of study. The ship equipped with a POD was simulated and its hydrodynamic performance was studied.

Abstract:All electric propulsion ship is a hot point in the development of the recent international shipbuilding industry,but there is no domestic propulsion control products for this type of ship.So,a propulsion control system for all electric propulsion ship is designed.According to the characteristics of all electric propulsion ship,the techniques of propulsion control and steering control are researched.Especially,in view of the power supply of propulsion system directly from marine power plant the analysis of how to endure the safety and stability of ship power supply during propulsion loading drastic variation is focused so as to give effective solutions.Additionally,this system is improved with its modulariation design to enhance its reliability,integrality and extension ability.

This paper introduces the status of researches of three different motion modes of the underwater nature objects and analyzed the propulsion mechanisms of different bionic underwater systems and of the existing problems in the development of the bionic underwater propulsion mechanism. This analysis of the use the new materials, existing decisions in bionics and intelligent control technology can be used in the development and design of the bionic thrusters for underwater robots.

Abstract:Abstract The ship propeller is a key component of a ship, a device for energy conversion, and a device for converting the energy emitted by the main engine into ship power. The most popular types of shaft-driven propellers derived from propeller propellers are currently on the market, including ducted propellers, pod propellers, and flat-rotating propellers. This type of propeller has many disadvantages of the shaft-driven propeller (system). These shortcomings have caused most of the existing small and medium-sized ships to have problems such as low transportation efficiency, high operation and maintenance costs, noise pollution, and lubricant leakage pollution. Therefore, the shaftless rim electric direct drive has gradually become an important development direction in the field of high-end marine propulsion equipment.

Abstract:The universality and effectiveness of underwater adsorption devices still remain challenges in the application of underwater climbing robots. In this letter, a propeller-driven Bernoulli adsorption device (PBD) with both propulsion and adsorption functions is developed. For the purpose of understanding the working principle and adsorption performance of PBD, theoretical modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and experiments are sequentially carried out. The study results elaborate the effects of several design parameters on the adsorption performance of PBD, and prove that PBD can obtain a considerable adsorption force with a low power consumption. Based on the study results, an underwater dual-mode operating robot is developed to verify the effectiveness of PBD. Laboratory pool experiment and dam field experiment are respectively conducted, both of which demonstrate the feasibility of PBD in engineering applications.

Abstract:In order to respond to the national "double carbon" goal and implementation, the introduction of new energy (solar energy, wind energy, etc.) in the ship power system is one of the main methods to reduce environmental pollution and energy shortage in shipbuilding industry, but only relying on solar energy or wind energy cannot meet the whole ship load demand power, so we must increase the energy storage system to ensure the ship Reliability of power supply. The ship hybrid power system has good handling performance, high power conversion efficiency, low emission cost consumption and other characteristics and become one of the main development directions of the future shipbuilding industry. This paper firstly puts forward the necessity of the development of new energy hybrid ship and introduces the application of traditional ship power system and new energy on the ship; then introduces the hybrid power technology of solar and lithium battery hybrid ship; finally, the future development of new energy hybrid ship is prospected.

Abstract:With the increasingly high requirements for environment and low carbon emissions, as well as the national plan to achieve peak carbon emissions before 2030, green shipping is the development direction of the future shipping industry. Pure electric ship has the advantages of zero emission, high transmission efficiency, low noise and so on, and is the main development focus of inland river shipping in the future. Wireless power transmission technology eliminates cable connection between ship and shore power, without wear and loss of physical connection cable, and can realize the safety, wireless and low pollution of ship power supply, which is the preferred charging method for electric ships in the future. This paper first introduces the type, system structure, working principle and characteristics of wireless power transmission technology. Secondly, based on the characteristics of ship power supply system, the wireless power transmission technology suitable for ship power supply is analyzed. Finally, a Marine resonant wireless power transmission system is designed and tested.

Abstract:Based on domestic machining level,the traditional dredging ship mu d pump system design is improved.High speed idesel engine,coupler and mud pump gea rbox system is put forward.Mud pump gearbox units the mud pump and gearbox into a box.The cubage,weight and cost are greatly decreased.In this paper,not only th e whole design scheme is introduced,but also the designs of key components are i lluminated exhaustively.This design has been adopted by “Hundred Ships Project ”and used widely in the dredging ships.The service life of this special mud pum p gearbox equals to and exceeds the traditional one.

Abstract:Ship power, as an essential component of ship engineering, directly affects the navigation performance, economy, and environmental friendliness of ships. This article reviews the development history of ship power, introduces the main propulsion devices including internal combustion engines, steam engines, and electric motors, and discusses the structure and optimization design of ship power systems. Modern ship power technology includes traditional diesel and gasoline engines, as well as new power devices such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines, hybrid power systems, and fuel cells. Electric ships are gaining attention due to their efficiency and environmental benefits. In the future, ship power technology will develop towards green environmental protection, intelligence, integration, diversification, and digitization, providing more reliable and efficient power support for the shipping industry and the advancement of ship engineering.

Abstract:The propulsor converts the power from engine into thrust to push autonomous underwater vehicle forward.With the increase of advance speed,the propulsor is possible to suffer with cavitation,deterioration of acoustics performances and propulsion efficiency.In this paper,the contra-rotating waterjet pump with two rotors rotating oppositely is introduced as a kind of propulsion device with high density of energy.Under same design specification,the rotation speed,blade loading as well as cavitation performances are supposed to be superior to the traditional single rotor type.Based on the parameters of certain vehicle,the experimental model and system are designed in this paper.And the loading status and Euler energy distribution of impeller blade in contra-rotating type are distinctively more reasonable than the single rotor type,and the cavitation performances are obviously improved.

Due to global warming, the IMO is implementing regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and fuel efficiency. Regulations on the fuel efficiency of ships include the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), and many studies are being conducted to meet these regulations. However, these regulations apply mainly to large ships, and regulations for coastal ships are insufficient. Improving the fuel efficiency of small ships is an urgent task for mitigating global warming and improving the coastal environment. In addition, improving fuel efficiency provides more economic benefits for small ship operators. To achieve this, electric propulsion ships and hybrid electric propulsion ships are being developed and implemented. Operating electric propulsion ships requires high initial construction costs and difficulty in expanding charging facilities. Hybrid electric propulsion ships charge surplus power generated by the ship's engine with electricity and use it according to the load, which has the advantage of lower initial construction costs compared to electric propulsion ships and no need for install charging facilities. This paper performed ship resistance CFD and model experiments to determine the output load based on the operating method of hybrid electric propulsion ships. Furthermore, propeller design was conducted, and propeller open water test (POW) was carried out.

Abstract:The noise reduction technology of ship propellers is currently one of the challenging directions, despite some progress having been made, continuous research and development are still underway. This paper elucidates commonly used noise reduction methods, namely geometric structure optimization and material optimization. Geometric structure optimization involves aspects such as the number of propeller blades, disk loading ratio, skew angle, and blade shape. Material optimization encompasses material selection, surface coating optimization, and propeller duct design. Corresponding optimization methods are provided for both approaches. A novel and innovative research direction is proposed, leveraging machine learning and neural networks to optimize propeller parameters. Additionally, employing a circumferential friction nanogenerator to sense propeller bearings and identify the coupling relationship between electrical signals and factors such as roughness and rotational speed. This optimization aims to reduce noise by optimizing propeller parameters. The paper concludes by offering insights for current research on ship propeller noise reduction technology in China.

Abstract:A new energy ship is being developed to address energy shortages and greenhouse gas emissions. New energy ships feature low operational costs and zero emissions. This study discusses the characteristics and development of solar-powered ships, wind-powered ships, fuel cell-powered ships, and new energy hybrid ships. Three important technologies are used for the power system of the new energy ship: new-energy spatio-temporal prediction, ship power scheduling, and Digital Twin (DT). Research shows that new energy spatio-temporal prediction reduces the uncertainty for a ship power system. Ship power scheduling technology guarantees safety and low-carbon operation for the ship. DT simulates the navigational environment for the new energy ship to characterize the boundary of the shipboard’s new energy power generation. The future technical direction for new energy ship power systems is also being discussed.

Abstract:Podded propulsors are widely used in warships and cruise ships, which have a higher requirement of vibrational and acoustic design. Therefore, studying vibration characteristics and the transmission mechanism of podded propulsor shafting is significant for reducing vibration and ensuring the safe operation of ships. This paper establishes a model of podded propulsor shafting by analytical method. The shafting is simplified to a heterogeneous variable cross-section beam, while bearings are seen as springs. The podded propulsor shafting has one radial-thrust hybrid bearing and one radial bearing. The excitations from the propeller and cabin are considered. The influences of bearing stiffness, bearing location, and excitation on vibration characteristics of shafting are analyzed. The main conclusions are as follows: Based on the analysis of the area that resonance frequency is sensitive to the change of bearing stiffness, the resonance frequencies of the shafting can be adjusted to the proper range. The large span between hybrid bearing and radial bearing leads to low stiffness of shafting and low resonances frequencies. Under radial excitations, the low vibration always occurs at the hybrid bearing, motor shafting, or propeller end of shafting. This research provides theoretical support for the design and optimization of vibration reduction of podded propulsor shafting.

Electric ships, leveraging advantages such as zero emissions, low noise, and high energy efficiency, demonstrate significant potential and market prospects. This paper reviews the current research status of electric ships, discussing the latest advancements and challenges in battery technology and electric propulsion systems. While lithium-ion batteries remain mainstream, issues regarding range and charging speed persist, prompting exploration into new technologies such as solid-state batteries, fuel cells, and sodium-ion batteries. The Battery Management System (BMS) plays a crucial role in enhancing battery safety and reliability. Optimized design and intelligent control strategies have notably improved the efficiency and reliability of electric propulsion systems. The paper summarizes the technological advancements in electric ships, identifies current challenges, and outlines future development directions.
