Abstract:Compared with mechanical gear, permanent magnetic gear has unique advantages which are high efficiency, noise free, zero friction, vibrationless, overload protection, etc. This paper introduced a novel coaxial magnetic gear with high speed radio and analyzed the efficient performance including peak torque, starting, braking, and no-loading procedures on the basis of calculating in finite element software Ansoft. The results prove that the novel magnetic gear is reasonable and efficient.

Abstract:This paper presents an analytical method for predicting the performance of magnetic bearing (MB). The approach based on magnetomotive force (MMF) and the permeance function is employed to compute the air-gap flux density distribution. The stator slotting effect and rotor eccentricity are taken into account to determine the permeance function. The analytical results are compared with finite-element method (FEM) to verify the accuracy of this analytical method.

Abstract:Taking a 117 kW, 60000 r/min high-speed permanent magnet generator (HSPMG) with back around winding as an example, the mathematical model for 3-D electromagnetic field analysis was established, and the basic assumptions and boundaries were given. The end region flux distributions in the generator operating at non-load and rated load were calculated by using the finite element method, some of which were compared with the test data. Taking the air gap flux density as the main study object, the variation of the flux density in the end region was obtained after the quantitative analysis, and then the radial component and the axial component of the flux density in sleeve, air-gap, tooth-top and stator yoke were analyzed. Based on the above analysis, the variation of the radial component density and the axial component density along the axial direction were obtained. Lastly the end region flux leakage of the generator running at different speeds was calculated and the relationship between the flux leakage and speed was studied. The obtained conclusions may provide useful reference for the design and research of HSPMG. © 2012 Chin. Soc. for Elec. Eng.
The Engineering Design of Contactless Emergency Power Supply in Maglev

Abstract:The engineering design of contactless emergency power supply is presented in the maglev.The theory of contactless emergency power supply is introduced first,and then the model of contactless power supply system used in the maglev is obtained.From the model,the parameters design of the system can be achieved.To improve the power transmitting capacity of the proposed system,series capacitor compensation is introduced into the proposed system.The principle of the capacitor compensation is analyzed,and then the design of auxiliary linear generator windings is given.Finally the experiment results on the 1:4 prototype are given to verify the analysis before.The experiment results show that the design can effectively improve the performance of the contactless emergency power supply system in the maglev.Then the power rating required of the auxiliary inverter can be reduced obviously.

Abstract:The principle and characteristics of the magnetic fluid bearings are introduced.The transient simulation is carried out based on ANSYS software to obtain the magnetic field distribution and eddy current distribution under normal operating conditions,and the performance of the bearings with the shaft eccentricity is analyzed.The results show that the uneven force of the bearings increases with the eccentricity of shaft,the sealing performance will be weakened due to the unevenness of the magnet force,but the influence of eccentricity of shaft on total load is not large.

Abstract:Retaining sleeves are widely used in high-speed generator to ensure that rotors never move along radial direction and they also would affect the electromagnetic performance of motors. Two-dimensional model of transient electromagnetic field of a high speed PM generator is established in this paper. Several types of sleeves made of different materials such as copper, carbon-fiber and austenitic steel is introduced in this paper, and the eddy current loss of different types of retaining sleeve are calculated by time-stepping finite element methods. Using results from loss calculation the thermal model is described and a steady thermal analysis is carried out. Studies show that, carbon-fiber reinforced composite which is not suitable to shield eddy current, but can be used together with copper screen as retaining sleeve to strengthen rotor.

Abstract:An idealized magnet model previously used in a simple coil configuration is applied to a more complicated engineering design problem, where an electromagnetic flow meter in diameter of 500 mm is used with five pairs of coils. The numerical results are compared with measurement data. The difference between theory and experiment and the possible causes of errors are discussed. It is shown that the idealized magnet model is practical for the design and the analysis of the flow meter. The work also shows that the traditional uniform field design based on two dimensional (2D) analysis is not suitable for this kind of flow meter. Thus nonuniform field and 3D analysis is needed.

Abstract:The Electrical variable transmission (EVT) is an electromechanical energy conversion device, which structure of inner machine (IM) and outer machine (IM) is concentric distribution. The outer rotor of EVT is the common magnetic circuit of IM and OM, which resulting in the serious magnetic coupling between them. In this paper, the internal magnetic field coupling problem of EVT is studied, which based on induction motor principle. Firstly, the finite element method (FEM) simulation is used to study the distribution discipline of the magnetic coupling and its influence on the inductances. The range of the self- and mutual-inductance of IM and OM is calculated quantitatively. Then, the mathematical model of EVT is deduced, then the winding phase current of IM and OM are simulated and analyzed with reference to the variable inductance parameters model. The variable parameter model is reasonable, which consistent with the expected results. Finally, the correctness of the variable parameter decoupling algorithm is verified by the prototype experiment.

Abstract:Taking a 117 kW 60 000 r/min super high speed permanent magnet generator as an example,the mathematical model for 2D transient electromagnetic field analysis was established,and then magnetic flux lines and air-gap flux density were analyzed by using circuit-field coupled time-stepping finite-element method.The variations of terminal voltage and windings current with time were obtained,which are compared with the test data.With CFD principles and heat transfer theories,the temperature distributions of generator and cooling medium were calculated by using the 3D finite volume method.Then,the eddy current loss distributions in generator rotors with protection components composed of alloy sleeve,copper layer,carbon fiber composite materials,and ceramics were analyzed,and the influences of the conductivity of carbon fiber composite materials and the thickness of copper shield layer on eddy current loss were given.From the comparisons of components temperatures in generator with different rotor sleeves,the effects of sleeve materials and structures on machine temperature distributions were obtained.The obtained conclusion provides certain guidance for the designing of super high speed PM machine.

Abstract:Magnetic flux leakage and loss of a transformer reduce the energy conversion efficiency of the transformer, also cause abnormal temperature distribution of the transformer. Studying magnetic flux leakage and loss of a transformer through measurement is a challenging task due to the difficulty of measuring magnetic flux leakage and loss. The finite element calculation makes up for the difficulty of measuring magnetic flux leakage and loss, which is very important for analyzing the magnetic flux leakage loss of a transformer. Based on the actual parameters, a refined three-dimensional(3D) modeling of 220kV three-phase three-winding on load tap-changer oil immersed power transformer in operation is established. The field circuit coupling finite element models of tank and turret are carried out by using professional electromagnetic simulation software MAGNET. Through setting impedance boundary conditions to improve the calculation speed, the distribution of magnetic flux leakage and loss of the transformer under high and medium voltage rated operating conditions is obtained by simulation. The results show that using MAGNET field-circuit coupling analysis can be used to quickly and efficiently calculate and analyze transformer magnetic flux leakage and loss.

Abstract:Taken a 400 W off-grid type permanent magnet synchronous generator as an example,the 2-D model of electromagnetic field was established.By using the field-circuit coupled method,the electromagnetic parameters of prototype with different loads and speeds were calculated.Based on the original structure design of prototype,two kinds of rotor structures were proposed and compared in terms of the no-load leakage coefficient,anti-EMF waveforms and the harmonic content of air-gap flux density;and the influences of these two structures on the electromagnetic performance of generators were analyzed.According to the heat transferring theories,the heat losses evaluated by the electromagnetic analysis were taken as the distributed heat sources;and the 2-D calculation model of temperature field for the whole area was built.The relationship between wind speed ,load and temperature distribution,through calculation and analysis of temperature field under different wind speed and load conditions,can be gained.Electromagnetic and thermal performance tests were studied;and it was showed that the test values were almost equal to the calculated ones,so some useful conclusions can be drawn to provide support for design and optimization of the off-grid type permanent magnet synchronous generator.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study is to propose a new magnetic gearing device and the proposed transmission model can be applied in the field of wind power and wave energy generation gearboxes. Design/methodology/approach A novel radial differential field-modulated two-stage magnetic gear is introduced, using a unique radial differential linkage to integrate two single-stage magnetic gears. This design incorporates a magnetic isolation ring to enhance transmission efficiency by minimizing magnetic interference and preventing power circulation. The two-stage modulating ring rotor operates synchronously via a connecting bridge, ensuring system stability and efficiency. This configuration not only boosts the gear ratio but also maintains a compact structure, improving power density and efficiency. Leveraging the magnetic field modulation and differential transmission, a finite element model of this gear is developed and its electromagnetic performance is analyzed. Findings The torque density of the new radial differential field-modulated two-stage magnetic gear has increased by 44.97% compared to the traditional tandem two-stage magnetic gear. It achieves a high transmission ratio of 64 and maintains comparable power density, indicating strong torque transfer capabilities suitable for low-speed, high-torque applications. During steady-state operation, the torque pulsation difference between the two stages is minimal, ensuring stable working torque. Social implications This research not only propels the forefront of magnetic gear technology through heightened efficiency and streamlined design but also bears profound societal significance in fostering sustainable energy paradigms. By facilitating superior energy conversion efficiencies in wind turbines and wave energy converters, it plays a pivotal role in mitigating carbon emissions and accelerating the global pivot towards cleaner, renewable energy landscapes. Originality/value A magnetic gear transmission device is proposed, which can achieve high power density and large transmission ratio at the same time, and this study provides a useful reference for the design optimization of new high-performance multistage magnetic gears.

Abstract:Overall, the electric vehicle transmission system shows an underdamped characteristic. Under changeable road conditions and high-frequency response for the motor, the resulting dynamic load environment may cause multiple failure modes, such as contact fatigue failure and bending fatigue fracture, for the transmission component, which limits the electric vehicle transmission component lifespan and system reliability. To reflect the dynamic load characteristics of the electric vehicle transmission system using a permanent magnet synchronous motor as a power source and accurately calculate the dynamic load of the transmission system, a high-speed helical gear-rotor-bearing coupling mechanical model for the electric vehicle transmission system was built based on simulating actual operation working conditions of the electric vehicle and considering the external load excitation caused by the Electromagnetic torque of the permanent magnet synchronous motor and vehicle driving resistant change as well as internal excitation caused by gear time-varying meshing rigidness and meshing error. Through simulation calculation of the mechanical model, the dynamic meshing force of the gear pair and dynamic contact force of the support bearing was obtained. Based on the Hertz contact theory, the stress-time history was obtained for the key parts, the rain flow counting method was adopted for the statistics collection and analysis of the stress-time history, and the fatigue load spectrum for various key parts of the transmission system was obtained. The result lays a foundation for the fatigue life prediction and reliability analysis for the pure electric vehicle transmission system.

Abstract:Magnetic field analysis, electromagnetic force distribution and harmonic response calculation are the basis of vibration and electromagnetic noise of motor. The magnetic circuit of the transverse flux permanent magnet motor is separated from the circuit, so that the magnetic density of the motor or the electrical load can be increased without affecting each other. Therefore, the high torque density of the motor is realized. Abstract:According to the theory of fluid mechanics,the fluid movement differential equation inside stator radial ventilation ducts is presented,and the solved region as well as boundary conditions of 3D fluid fields is given.The fluid fields are calculated and analyzed,and fluid field distribution inside radial ventilation duct is shown.At the same time,the heat transfer coefficients inside radial ventilation ducts are computed on the basis of calculation of fluid field.The mathematical model and physical model of stator 3D temperature field are established.The stator 3D temperature field is computed and the result is compared respectively with the result calculated by traditional method and tested value.

Abstract:Based on the flux modulation theory, PM vernier machine has features including high torque density, low cogging torque, which makes it preferable for low-speed-high-torque fields such as marine propulsion system and wind generator. Accurate calculation of the airgap flux densities is significant for the analysis and optimization of electromagnetic performances in PM vernier machines. Based on conventional MMF-permeance model, the radial airgap flux density can be calculated instantly but with relatively low accuracy, while it cannot calculate tangential flux. Based on finite element analysis or subdomain model, the radial and tangential airgap flux can be calculated precisely. However, these methods need longer time to solve matrix equations. In this paper, through mirror magnetic circuit and leakage flux circuit analysis, the calculation error brought by pole-transition-over-slot effect in vernier machines is corrected. Then, through modified complex MMF-permeance model, the airgap radial and tangential flux densities are calculated precisely and instantly. On this basis, the no-load back EMF of PM vernier machine is calculated, and the calculation result is proved to be corrected combining FEA method.
