Abstract:The k-valued Kleene functions over Kleene algebra (instead of over Post algebra) are defined. Multivalued logic and fuzzy logic are studied in the light of lattice theory. It is shown that all Kleene k-valued logic (k = 3 or more) have the same algebraic structure as fuzzy logic through lattice isomorphism. As a by-product, an asymptotic formula and upper bound for enumeratinlg fuzzy switching functions of n variables is obtained. Some conditions for minimizing Kleene functions are discussed, and an efficient generalized Karnaught map method is described. An application is made of the above Kleene multivalued logic to the fault diagnosis of combinational circuits. The fault norm of a combinational circuit is introduced and it is shown that this norm contains all the information about the fault situation of the circuit, and can hence be used to solve such problems as fault analysis, fault diagnosis, and detection of circuit redundance and fault masking.

Abstract:The relation between e-derivative and the simplification of logic functions is discussed. Then a new method of simplifying logic functions based upon e-derivative is presented. The examples show that the effect of logic synthesis is better than the traditional logic synthesis based on AND-OR-NOT operations.

Abstract:A new method of circuit reduction for memory logic parameter is proposed. The method simplifies the circuit by judging whether logic state of transistor alters or not while inputting specialized stimulate wave. The studies show it reduces the number of the transistor greatly and holds nicely functional performance and electrical characteristic of circuit. The precision of logic parameter extracted by this new method is very good and it cuts short greatly the extraction time. The experimental results show that it is efficient.

A Logic Programming Framework for Combinational Circuit Synthesis

Abstract:Logic Programming languages and combinational circuit synthesis tools share a common "combinatorial search over logic formulae" background. This paper attempts to reconnect the two fields with a fresh look at Prolog encodings for the combinatorial objects involved in circuit synthesis. While benefiting from Prolog's fast unification algorithm and built-in backtracking mechanism, efficiency of our search algorithm is ensured by using parallel bitstring operations together with logic variable equality propagation, as a mapping mechanism from primary inputs to the leaves of candidate Leaf-DAGs implementing a combinational circuit specification. After an exhaustive expressiveness comparison of various minimal libraries, a surprising first-runner, Strict Boolean Inequality "<" together with constant function "1" also turns out to have small transistor-count implementations, competitive to NAND-only or NOR-only libraries. As a practical outcome, a more realistic circuit synthesizer is implemented that combines rewriting-based simplification of (<,1) circuits with exhaustive Leaf-DAG circuit search. A Novel Logic Detection Algorithm for Logic Circuits

Abstract:Synthesizing logic circuits with different logic will result in different circuit structure, and then obtain different circuit performance. However, few studies have focused on logic detection technology that detects which logic is appropriate for the implementation of logic circuits. In this paper, we use Reduced Ordered Binary Decision Diagram (ROBDD) processed by dynamic variable sorting approach to describe logic circuits. Moreover, based on the proposed XOR logic judging condition and logic detection judging condition, we propose a Novel Logic Detection Algorithm (NLDA), which can quickly and effectively detect which logic is appropriate for the implementation of logic circuits. The experimental results on MCNC benchmark circuits show that compared to the logic detection algorithm based on minterms, the logic detection algorithm based on product terms, and the logic detection algorithm based on disjointed cubes, NLDA has the highest logic detection accuracy rate and highest logic detection efficiency.
Simplification Of Equation-Oriented Models Through The Digraph Method

Abstract:Flowsheeting can be represented by solving a system of nonlinear algebraic equations. The equation-oriented (EO) approach is an important method of process flowsheeting. The EO model, however, can be difficult to solve simultaneously because of the complexity caused by large-scale equations. In this study, a scheme based on the digraph method and Grobner basis is proposed to simplify EO models. By depicting an EO model as a digraph, the equations to be simultaneously solved form a loop in the digraph. To simplify the solving of an EO model, finding the digraph with the least loops is recommended. Topological sorting, depth-first traversal, and back-off-edge judgement are introduced to evaluate the digraph structure. The Grobner basis, an important symbolic computation approach, is used to further eliminate simultaneous equations or indifferent intermediate variables. A representative numerical case study illustrates that the proposed method efficiently reduces the computation cost of EO models.

Abstract:Electrical design automation (EDA) techniques have deeply influenced the computer hardware design, especially in the field of very large scale Integration (VLSI) circuits. Particularly, the popularity of FPGA, ASIC and SOC applications have been dramatically increased due to the well developed EDA tool chains. Over decades, improving EDA tool in terms of functionality, efficiency, accuracy and intelligence is not only the academic research hot spot, but the industry attempting goal as well. In this paper, a novel perspective is taken to review current mainstream EDA working flow and design methods, aiming to shorten the EDA design periods and simplify the logic design overload significantly. Specifically, three major contributions are devoted. First, a Chinese character based representation system (CCRS), which is used for presenting logical abstract syntax tree, is proposed. Second, the register-transfer-level (RTL) level symbolic description technique for CCRS are introduced to replace traditional text-based programming methods. Finally, the refined EDA design flow based on CCRS is discussed. It is convincing that the graphic non-pure-english based EDA flow could lower the design cost and complexity. As a fundamental trial in this new field, it is confirmative that a lot of following works will make the related EDA development prosperous.
E-Syn: E-Graph Rewriting with Technology-Aware Cost Functions for Logic Synthesis

Abstract:Logic synthesis plays a crucial role in the digital design flow. It has a decisive influence on the final Quality of Results (QoR) of the circuit implementations. However, existing multi-level logic optimization algorithms often employ greedy approaches with a series of local optimization steps. Each step breaks the circuit into small pieces (e.g., k-feasible cuts) and applies incremental changes to individual pieces separately. These local optimization steps could limit the exploration space and may miss opportunities for significant improvements. To address the limitation, this paper proposes using e-graph in logic synthesis. The new workflow, named Esyn, makes use of the well-established e-graph infrastructure to efficiently perform logic rewriting. It explores a diverse set of equivalent Boolean representations while allowing technology-aware cost functions to better support delay-oriented and area-oriented logic synthesis. Experiments over a wide range of benchmark designs show our proposed logic optimization approach reaches a wider design space compared to the commonly used AIG-based logic synthesis flow. It achieves on average 15.29% delay saving in delay-oriented synthesis and 6.42% area saving for area-oriented synthesis.

Abstract:In this paper, a Boolean algebra approach is proposed to encode various acceptability semantics for abstract argumentation frameworks, where each semantics can be equivalently encoded into several Boolean constraint models based on Boolean matrices and a family of Boolean operations between them. Then, we show that these models can be easily translated into logic programs, and can be solved by a constraint solver over Boolean variables. In addition, we propose some querying strategies to accelerate the calculation of the grounded, stable and complete extensions. Finally, we describe an experimental study on the performance of our encodings according to different semantics and querying strategies.

Abstract:Deriving a circuit for a Boolean function or improving an available circuit are typical tasks solved by logic synthesis. Numerous algorithms in this area have been proposed and implemented over the last 50 years. This paper presents a "lazy” approach to logic synthesis based on the following observations: (a) optimal or near-optimal circuits for many practical functions are already derived by the tools, making it unnecessary to implement new algorithms or even run the old ones repeatedly; (b) larger circuits are composed of smaller ones, which are often isomorphic up to a permutation/negation of inputs/outputs. Experiments confirm these observations. Moreover, a case-study shows that logic level minimization using lazy man's synthesis improves delay after LUT mapping into 4- and 6-input LUTs, compared to earlier work on high-effort delay optimization.

Abstract:A decisive influence on complexity and speed of a combinational logic circuit of library CMOS elements is exerted by the preliminary stage of technologically independent optimization of the implemented system of Boolean functions. At present, the main methods of such optimization in the logical synthesis of custom CMOS VLSI blocks are methods for minimizing binary decision diagrams — Binary Decision Diagrams (BDD) or their modifications. Graphical representations of BDD are built on the basis of the Shannon expansions of Boolean functions. A BDD graph corresponds to a set of interrelated Shannon expansion formulas that form a multilevel representation of the minimized system of Boolean functions. The efficiency of applying various optimization procedures of minimization for several types of BDD representations of systems of Boolean functions is investigated in the paper. 7hese procedures are used as a technologically independent optimization in the synthesis of multi-output logic circuits of library CMOS elements. In addition to single logical optimization procedures, sequences of such procedures are studied that form various methods of logical optimization of multilevel representations of systems of Boolean functions. The results of experiments on 49 examples of systems of Boolean functions are presented. 25 optimization routes have been studied, efficient routes have been determined for various types of specifications of function systems. The obtained experimental results are compared with the known ones. It has been established that to estimate the complexity of optimized algebraic representations of systems of functions, it is advisable to use such a criterion as the total number of literals (variables or their inversions) of Boolean variables.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of a robust parameterized arithmetic circuit for the evaluation of algebraic families of multivariate polynomials. Based on this notion, we present a computation model, adapted to Scientific Computing, which captures all known branching parsimonious symbolic algorithms in effective Algebraic Geometry. We justify this model by arguments from Software Engineering. Finally we exhibit a class of simple elimination problems of effective Algebraic Geometry which require exponential time to be solved by branching parsimonious algorithms of our computation model.

Abstract:We present a mathematical framework for mapping second-order logic relations onto a simple state vector algebra. Using this algebra, basic theorems of set theory can be proven in an algorithmic way, hence by an expert system. We illustrate the use of the algebra with simple examples and show that, in principle, all theorems of basic set theory can be recovered in an elementary way. The developed technique can be used for an automated theorem proving in the 1st and 2nd order logic.

Abstract:Traditional treatments of formal logic provide: 1. A syntax for formulas. 2. An inference relation between sets of formulas. 3. A rule for assigning meaning to formulas (semantics) that is sound with respect to the inference relation. First order logic, the logic and semantics of programming languages, and the languages that have been formulated for various kinds of categories are all commonly described in this way. The formulas in those logics are strings of symbols that are ultimately modeled on the sentences mathematicians speak and write when proving theorems. Mathematicians with a categorial orientation frequently state and prove theorems using graphs and diagrams. The theory of sketches provides a formal way to describe mathematical structures and impose requirements (such as equations) on them using graphs, diagrams and similar structures. The graphs, diagrams and other data of a sketch are formal objects that correspond to the graphs and diagrams used by such mathematicians in much the same way as the formulas of traditional logic correspond to the sentences mathematicians use in proofs. Sketch theory has a well-known and well-developed functorial semantics corresponding to item 3 in the description of logic above. The content of this paper is to propose a structure in sketch theory that corresponds to items 1 and 2 in that description.

BoolGebra: Attributed Graph-learning for Boolean Algebraic Manipulation

Abstract:Boolean algebraic manipulation is at the core of logic synthesis in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) design flow. Existing methods struggle to fully exploit optimization opportunities, and often suffer from an explosive search space and limited scalability efficiency. This work presents BoolGebra, a novel attributed graph-learning approach for Boolean algebraic manipulation that aims to improve fundamental logic synthesis. BoolGebra incorporates Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and takes initial feature embeddings from both structural and functional information as inputs. A fully connected neural network is employed as the predictor for direct optimization result predictions, significantly reducing the search space and efficiently locating the optimization space. The experiments involve training the BoolGebra model w.r.t design-specific and cross-design inferences using the trained model, where BoolGebra demonstrates generalizability for cross-design inference and its potential to scale from small, simple training datasets to large, complex inference datasets. Finally, BoolGebra is integrated with existing synthesis tool ABC to perform end-to-end logic minimization evaluation w.r.t SOTA baselines.

Abstract:Definitions are given and the difference between positive and negative algebra of logic is indicated. It is noted that when switching from positive logic to negative, the elements of "Schaeffer's Stroke" and "Pierce's Arrow" change places. Similarly, conjunction changes with disjunction. The inverter retains its property regardless of its application in positive or negative logic. The laws and rules valid for the negative algebra of logic are presented. The method of transition from the positive algebra of logic to the negative one is presented. Elements of positive and negative logic are compared. On the basis of logic functions: (AᴧBᴧC)ᴧDvAᴧ(BᴧCᴧD)vAᴧ(BᴧC)ᴧDv(AᴧB)ᴧ(CᴧD), implemented by direct optimized, minimal, options matching device, as well as, the final options in bases 2-NOT-OR (2-AND-NOT), 4-NOT-OR (4-AND-NOT) for negative logic. Conditional Flood Fill Method in Logic Synthesis

Abstract:In the field of Electronic Design Automation (EDA), logic synthesis plays a pivotal role in optimizing hardware resources. Traditional logic synthesis algorithms, such as the Quine-McCluskey method, face challenges in scalability and efficiency, particularly for higher-dimension problems. This paper introduces a novel heuristic algorithm based on Conditional Flood Fill Method aimed at addressing these limitations. Our method employs count-based adjacent element handling and introduces nine new theorems to guide the logic synthesis process. Experimental results validate the efficacy of our approach, showing significant improvements in computational efficiency and scalability compared to existing algorithms. The algorithm holds potential for future advancements in circuit development and Boolean function optimization.
